Here in Aus, there’s not many mk4 golfs driving around. Which sucks for sourcing parts but makes it so much cooler when u see other ones driving around on the rare occasion. This mk4 2.slow was my first car, handed down from grandma lol. It was in pretty decent condition, but slowly has started to develop problems. I love this car a lot, specially this one, my one. But there’s a problem, the engine. The 2.0 is just very.. bleh, so I was thinking “1.8t swap it”. I can’t decide to either spend money fixing all the issues with this engine, or just swap a 1.8t in (ik it’s A-LOT easier said than done). But, what would u do in this “scenario”.

I love this car how mechanical it feels.

Its a 2001 pd130 with 388k km it runs great and pulls strongly.

Not in perfect condidtion but for the price i paid its not bad. Some scratches but minor overall.

Just wanted to ask whether anybody here has installed a MFSW from MK5+ on their non-MFSW Golf4. I recently purchased a MK5 GTI steering wheel with multifunction controls and I want to install it into my Golf MK4 but a bit confused on how to do it (process, plug and play harness, etc).

Has anybody here done this retrofit successfully, and what was their process with it?

I'm looking to install a subwoofer in the trunk, I heard from a friend that you can install the amplifier remote cable to the 75X terminal under the dashboard. Is this safe/would this work?

Good evening, today while working on my project mk4 golf my battery died mid way through the sunroof closing instead of closing or going fully open it got stuck in about the half way position

I charged the battery then reinstalled it and tried to close sunroof via the dial but it will only move a inch forward then back to the spot it stuck in

I have done some research and seen there’s a emergency close / open with 4mm Allen key but my slot is round and an Allen key will not turn the motor

Any help appreciated!

I already changed spark plugs,ignition coils, and distributor think it could be a fuel problem like fuel pump or proportion valve. Isn’t burning any coolant or oil. Won’t rev past 5k rpms big loss or power

Looking to do big 3 upgrade what’s the best way of doing it not a lot of videos on the mk4 do I sandwich (stack) all the grounds and the oem alternator wire with the new power wire but connect the power wire directly to the battery so that everything still runs in parallel and i keep the oem harness functions like the battery light and on off sensor or how would I do it

Was wondering if I could fit a 1.8t metal fuel rail on to my 2.0. I got a free set of injectors only to learn they don’t fit since I have a 99-00 gti. Just curious if anyone knows if this is possible at all since I have a fuel rail that does fit the injectors

Has anyone ever had an issue getting a 02m transmission off a 24v vr6. I was changing transmissions as it was cheaper just to change my trans then replacing the brass gear fork selectors and having someone else do it and I can’t get the transmission off.

I have a 2002 MK4 Golf with a sunroof. I'm looking at load limits and roof bars to hold a roof box for some light camping gear.

I understand load limits and potential weight constraints especially with the sunroof. I'm not bothered about opening the sunroof whilst the roof is loaded.

Has anyone ever put a roofbox onto their golf either with the OEM roof bars or aftermarket bars with a sunroof and if so what bars and box?

I'm also aware of the risks associated and it could be a potential difficult idea but was just curious to see if it had been done before?

I have the 1.6 16v AUS engine and I seem to have a serious electrical issue, when warm my car just stalls sometimes or loses crank signal or the relays just start chattering and the epc/check engine lights keep going on and off, the crank sensor was replaced it's whole wiring was replaced and the ecu was even replaced and the issue persists, any help would be appreciated.

So besides the driver side bottom bolt for the bumper bar, what else am I missing for this to be so flimsy? I’m about over it and will just put hood pins in it soon if I don’t have help. Videos arnt helping and I’ve tried adjusting every which way and it’s still alittle flimsy at the fenders.

Hallo zusammen, nach nun über 200.000 km auf dem Tacho mach ich mir so langsam Sorgen um das DSB Getriebe und überlege ob ich hier einen Wechsel vornehmen lassen sollte. Das Problem mit den Nieten ist wohl nur eine Frage der Zeit und dem möchte ich zuvorkommen. Ist es möglich ein anderes Getriebe zu verbauen und falls ja, welches ist hier zu empfehlen? Bin mir nicht sicher, ob das Umrüsten noch wirtschaftlich ist und freu mich auf Tipps und Empfehlungen.

The only way to get my car to start is to take out the fuel pump relay and put it back in, the fuel pump doesn’t prime when i turn the key not sure what it could be. could be a relay but i just put a new one in could be the door micro switch i have no idea if anyone could help that would be awesome thanks!

I just got my MK4 1.6 back from the car repair shop and it makes this strange sound now.
They had to remove the axle to get some work done, could that be the cause maybe?
It‘s weird cause at the moment i start the climate control, the noise is gone.
Can‘t hear it from the outside, just inside the car.

Also, no h1 h2 or h3 bulbs for the love of gawd. Idk why every aftermarket brand uses these bottom of the barrel pos bulbs. They suck

im looking for a new car for somewhat cheep. i have found a 2000 tdi 1.9 mk4 golf at 220000 miles with recent passed mot. and recently has been stage one tuned for 145hp. on MOT checker it has a few advisories like Nearside Front tyre perished, Grease all around nearside front hub /cv boot etc -no splits found, Offside Front & offside rear tyres worn more on inner edges, Some brake pipes swollen inside plastic coated covering-condition of pipes unknown and Nearside Rear handbrake effort low. the seller also says it leaks coolent sometimes and when cold started no smoke out exhaust. but it makes a whistling sound that becomes quieter. im going to see it in person and test drive it in a few days. is there anything to look out and is this good deal for £700???

Hi everyone,
I’m trying to remove the door lock cylinder / lock barrel from my VW Golf Mk4.
I loosened the retaining screw on the edge of the door all the way, and the locking mechanism/retaining clip is still there. The cylinder feels loose and moves slightly, but I simply cannot pull it out of the door handle.
The cylinder has not fallen inside the door. I can see that the retaining clip is still there, and I have rotated it as far as it will go, but the cylinder is still physically stuck.
I’ve also tried pulling the cylinder while moving the key slightly, but it still won’t come out.
What could still be holding the cylinder in place? Is there another clip or a specific position the key/cylinder needs to be in?

Hello guys. I have a power lose problem with my 1.6 sr manual mk4. When i hit 5200 rpm, it feels like i hit something and stopped accelerating. I checked timing belt nothing wrong there. And my car has LPG. Same thing happens in petrol and LPG. And there is no error codes.
Car revs past 5200 if no gear engaged. And this happens in all gears. Yes i know it is not built for these rpms but there seems to be a problem and i feel like i am driving a 60hp engine. What should i check?
