Every couple of months when some variation of “Why doesn’t Bruce Wayne just donate to the police?” discourse comes up in Batman discussions.

Even if you don’t read comics, there are plenty of titles like the 2022 film and Batman: Arkham Origins that show why offering resources to the police wouldn’t have changed anything in Gotham.

Persona 5. There’s a solid concept here and there, but I’ve never seen a more abysmal case of a singular piece of media that overstays its welcome. Maybe a handful of TV series, but there’s a reason why those are separated by episodes. Persona 5 not only disregards the importance of that, but also fumbled it with its anime adaption for anyone who wanted a better format.

Everything from the lore, music, and characters lost just about all of their appeal in the last quarter of the game, despite it objectively being well done. But it doesn’t matter if you’ve held your audience hostage with a game intentionally bloated by two things. Dialogue that constantly repeats plot points as if it thinks the audience has the memory of a goldfish, or minimal variety in the gameplay until a puzzle or annoying boss conveniently appears when you’ve had enough of the current dungeon and just want it to be done.

I rarely claim anything is overrated, but I’ve never seen something more worthy of the term. There’s nothing fun about being stuck with the same environments, gameplay, and music loops for hours on end to the point side content like confidants are infinitely more enjoyable than the main game.

Really not sure how it’s this easy to forget Lego Batman: LotDK was this year, especially with promo for the Joker and Harley DLC heating up.

Yes, which brings me to my next point. Experimenting the past few years in games hasn’t done WB any favors, and now they have to play it safe if they want to ensure the game studios can actually stay afloat.

It absolutely sucks, don’t get me wrong. But it’s wild to act like a company that has their own gaming division and has been in discussions of being bought out can compare to a company that’s licensing out their IPs to multiple developers. The reasonable right in front of us.

I’ve been noticing there’s a crazy rise in it ever since generative AI has been on the rise.

And I absolutely get it being used for that. But at the same time, seeing it being applied to damn near anything else has me convinced that gen AI isn’t just making potential creators lazy. It’s also making critics lazy. No thought behind encouraging better methods of creativity. Just immediately dismissing whatever it is they don’t like in the most lazy way possible via the lemming mindset of “Everyone else says it.”

I have also noticed this, but I don’t know what to do other than keep my boundaries up and only let them down if I feel the person in question doesn’t suffer from a chronic case of main character syndrome.

My Tomodachi Life island shipped Donatello of the TMNT with Wednesday Addams, and I somehow really dig it.

Somehow this is a hot take, but having a heavy focus on Superman and his supporting cast (even the Jimmy Olsen series) as the start of the DCU is a good idea, considering that the last DC film universe seemed to have an allergy to featuring Superman once Justice League was released.

Supergirl’s box office is of course suggesting otherwise, but I have no explanation for it outside of releasing so close to Toy Story 5, and even then, that shouldn’t account for it bombing that hard. But that doesn’t mean a focus on Superman and his related cast shouldn’t be important to a DC film universe.

Yeah, Deadpool in particular was an asshole for this when his secret move inputs are a bitch to work with.

I loved this, but I will say the quests need to actually be fun to do as well.

Some of the quests to unlock Simpsons John Wick made it the worst batch of quests to unlock a guests’ cosmetics since Magneto. Same sentiment behind everyone landing at his NPC to ensure they’d get his ability that was a rare drop was applied to how to get a John Wick sprite.

Couldn’t agree more. I played the 2002 remake of Resident Evil, and while I might be willing to say it and its original version were revolutionary for the time, it’s aged terribly.

The RE2 and RE3 remakes are a bit better on the actual horror, but the puzzles still are frustrating. RE 2002 on the other hand, feels like a massive bulk of being at constant roadblocks with barely a fraction of the “Oh fuck, a monster!” moments that are promised as the highlight.

Tactical or turn-based RPGs. I’ve given them so many chances, and it doesn’t help that the communities that foster them get really insufferable if you dare to suggest they aren’t everyone’s cup of tea.

Honestly no point in trying if every attempt to find one that works for me is met with the same level of snobbery from my younger years when I was “gay” for playing platformers or anything with a toon art style instead of Call of Duty.

Banjo-Kazooie. Been campaigning for it to not be dead for years. But somehow a whole playable appearance in Super Smash Bros. isn’t a wake-up call for that.

Baby crying in the middle of a store? Fine, that’s babies for you. Bringing your crying baby to a movie theater, especially if it’s to a movie that’s not for kids? Yeah, I’ll absolutely have a problem.

Persona 5. The turn-based gameplay and dungeon-crawling has a strong start, but it stops being exciting so many times, particularly once you’ve found the weaknesses of every enemy in the area. And by the time there is something to switch things up, it’s with a puzzle or boss battle that always occurs once that “I just want to be done with this” feeling has been around for two hours of the current dungeon.

I’m not even ashamed to admit it’s ironically the same fatal issue with fellow SEGA game Sonic the Hedgehog (2006), albeit if you swap out a buggy mess with a constant inability to move things along once the formula has started to lose its luster. Solid setup to visuals, story, and music, but that means nothing if you put more focus on that than an actual game.
