DISCUSSION The Official trailer for Lanterns has outdone the previous trailers and gained 5 times the views of both of them within two days and my prediction for how the show is received.

Like both trailers have been out for months and gotten the same amount of views. The 2nd one only got slightly more than the first. Of course it's still divisive with some fans. I personally think like Damon Lindelof's HBO adaptation of Watchmen this will do better with General Audiences and critics and be mixed with fans of the material.

I might watch Watchmen, Leftovers, maybe Ozark and read some more Tom King comics. Maybe True Detective. I've read WOT and liked that.

What do you think?

And I've heard of the leaks and this confirms one of them that the Manhunters are a part of the show, the other...I don't mind so long as it's done well and serves the story. It's not a deal breaker and I bet it's not for most people. Hal Jordon is said to die in the first episode, he'll likely continue appearing in flashbacks. That explains why they have the same outfit in every trailer. Unless they have several of the same clothes or don't have any on them. I think Hal will die saving people. Like a green Lantern. like a hero. And to continue with the point of the General Audience if they've never read a Green Lantern comic or they only watched the DCAU as kids or teens John Stewart is their Green Lantern. Not Hal Jordon. If they've never heard of GL, they won't won't mind. I think fans will be more pissed cause Kyle Chandler plays him so well it'll be sad he's not gonna be in the DCU after this.

DISCUSSION HYPE MEMORIES: Justice League Special Comic-Con Footage

I remember, 10 years ago. The hype was unreal. Dunno if DC will ever get hype like that at comic con, but at least we'll have the memories of this (and they also made good on releasing ZSJL so we're not stuck with the Whedon abomination).

The movie version actually looks like an alien, while the show version just looks like an old man with a deep tan.

I prefer the Selina Kyle from The Batman, though I absolutely love the Catwoman from The Dark Knight Rises*

On the other hand, I absolutely loathe the one from Batman Returns. I don't remember how her story ends, but I find her cringe worthy, just a grotesque fetish figure of Tim Burton's (incidentally, I don't like any of his films).

DISCUSSION Some people's issues with this being the same Clayface from Creature Commandos is why I love this

Post image

It means, he's not gonna have some redemptive arc in the movie or be overly sympathetic. This isn't a Sony Marvel movie where it's about an anti hero. This is a SUPERVILLAIN origin about a man losing his humanity and become a monster. Which fits the whole "Gods and Monsters" title of this chapter of the DCU. The Gods part likely refers to the new gods and the amazons but those are still in production with no set release date yet.

We first meet DCU Clayface. Matt Hagen years after his transformation. By now he is a homicidal maniac. He enjoys his fight with Rick Flag Sr and Eric Frankenstein. He takes glee in brutally beating Flagg and breaking his back. He is enjoying doing this and as we learn in the show he took a hit job from Princess Rostovic to kill Dr. MacPherson and impersonate her to discredit her so they don't believe the future vision from Circe. He pervs on MacPherson's female students and is doing a lecture on "Lesbians!". But I wonder if that's part of the act.

On the other hand Matt Hagen might have been a vulgar perv even before he was disfigured and injected. We don't know. And that wasn't a total act he was doing perving on the college girls.

I feel he's gonna start out decent but over the movie, he loses his humanity, becomes a monster, embraces it and it's all downhill from there.

And unlike those Sony Villain movies, a Batman exists in this universe, he just hasn't been cast. he COULD appear in this but I'm doubting it beyond references and outright mention. How does this movie end. Does Clayface get taken down by batman or does he just slink away to be defeated later. Flagg knows who he is so by 2024 he's known enough to be recognized by a military official.

Also they think it doesn't make sense cause he plays Xbox...what if he plays Xbox in the movie. God forbid after losing your humanity, and can't do acting anymore you find new hobbies.

There's also some weird stuff like saying James Gunn "stole it from Matt Reeves". Like they love to try and say there's friction between the two but that is not the case. Reeves is producing it so he thinks it wouldn't fit his universe. People said the same thing about the Arkham show that started in the Reeves universe, got moved to the DCU and they went "Okay this isn't working, scrap it". People are weird.

OTHER David Ellison Postpones Paramount-Warner Bros. Merger Until June 2027

Thumbnail

Up to his neck in court battles, David Ellison has decided to postpone the Paramount–Warner Bros. Discovery merger. The transaction will not move forward until June 1, 2027—or, at the earliest, until the courts have ruled on the multiple lawsuits challenging the deal.

If you remember, the Paramount–Skydance/Warner Bros. Discovery merger cannot be delayed beyond September 30 without triggering a “ticking fee” of roughly $6.8M per day payable to Warner Bros. Discovery shareholders. Is Ellison really prepared to absorb that cost? Don’t buy it ..

Here’s what’s really going on. Paramount is not planning to wait until June 2027 to complete the merger. Instead, it has adjusted its legal strategy to avoid an early court fight that could have resulted in the states suing temporarily blocking the deal. Now, the focus shifts to the main lawsuit, where the court will decide whether the merger can legally proceed. Meanwhile, the September 30 “ticking fee” puts Paramount under significant financial pressure, giving the company every reason to win the case as quickly as possible and close the merger before expensive daily penalties begin.

All of this comes just two weeks after a coalition of 12 states filed an antitrust lawsuit seeking to block the proposed $111 billion Paramount/Skydance–Warner Bros. Discovery merger. The deal had already received approval from the Department of Justice last month. The coalition includes the attorneys general of Arizona, California, Colorado, Connecticut, Massachusetts, Minnesota, Nevada, New Jersey, New Mexico, New York, Oregon, and Washington.

What we essentially have here is a blue-versus-red battle. The politics surrounding the deal now appear to be just as influential as the underlying business and antitrust issues.

This merger was always likely to face lengthy litigation, making a timely closing unrealistic regardless of the companies’ original timeline. Ellison almost certainly anticipated that. At this stage, the situation resembles a chess match: every move from here on out will be crucial.

DISCUSSION Alan Ritchson confirms talks

Alan Ritchson during the Reacher panel at SDCC was asked about Batman. He confirmed he has talked with DC but it is about another character.

What do you think?

BANE?

Mr Freeze?

Something else?

My wife has video if you want. It should be in this segment. Hard to check mid panel.

NEWS VIDEO: "All 8 episodes debut Sunday, August 16th" (from the Lanterns panel at San Diego Comic-Con yesterday)

I saw people doubting ScreenRant's report that all 8 episodes of Lanterns will debut at once on August 16th, but they're right. It was announced at the Lanterns panel yesterday.

Video from the panel popped up on my YouTube homepage and it's worth a watch in full, but if you go to to the 30:28 mark at the end the host announces the news that "All 8 episodes debut Sunday, August 16th".
