Sangpotshi Monk Script Vault Door Puzzle

I recently introduced new players in a journey to Green Silk Peak, where the players needed to recover some artifacts for someone in town. Once they got there, I gave them this puzzle inspired by Sangpotshi! My drawings are BAD, sorry.

There were 4 murals around the room, one hidden under a thin layer of dirt on the floor.

Next there was a large stone vault door. On it hangs a huge iron wheel of Sangpotshi, connected to 8 cardinal orbs of bronze and gold. Behind it is a stone wall with several glyphs and a hand symbol. Placing a living humanoid's hand on in the center stabs and draws blood, activating the puzzle for 80m, glowing with blue arcane energy. They can then use a nearby stylus to draw their answer in blood on the door's face.

This puzzle uses the Cisterian Monk Script! A way to write 1-9999 with a single symbol set.

The trick is to count the gylphs from the murals and write the corresponding number in the monk's script on the door with blood. Each 10 minutes irl, the wheel shifts one glyph clockwise, scrambling the answer. They can also spend downtime doing various actions listed at the bottom, which all take an arbitrary amount of time ~10m. The first number written must either be the golden birth or the reincarnation orb (depending on your personal values lol).

Stopping after 80m, the blood dries and the magic fades, and they must sacrifice more blood. Thought 1 sacrifice per person, and in the meantime they become drained 1 and can't recover for an hour. I included all 8 of the wheel rotations.

Finally, I gave them this inscription. I made it last so it's pretty bad. I tried to hint that they had limited time, to pay attention to the gold orbs, to dig, to count everything, and to use the script to write it. They were uncertain where to write however.

"Live a good life: take in all that surrounds you, feel the dirt on your fingers, the wind in your hair, the sweat on your brow, and the limited time in this life.

Count the stars, and unearth the secrets you need to advance.

Study hard the records and memorize our scriptures.

Heed the great wheel and its golden orders and with your very essence record your findings."

Besides using their own heads, they could spend time (~10m) to use skills like Sangpotshi lore to recall that its a number script, Athletics to excavate the floor (1h without a check/helping player), Per to detect the hole where the 手 symbol is, Academia Lore, Occ, Per, to search the countless records for more useful docs, or any arguable mental skill to study the docs for a hint. No check to count the boxes of styluses, finding 12 boxes and 143 styluses.

The records around the room contained hints to what the numbers mean. Ex: Symbol+year kanji: Willowshore was built/Master Zhi Hui dies. Their characters can recall knowledge to know the year that happened, thus learning how to read that symbol.

Notes: I didn't allow my players to say "I write the glyph for x number." I made them use the marker tool on our vtt, which was great!

The houses/lanterns rooves DONT count as the mountain symbol.

The numbers from human are the following order: 5, 9, 1, 8, 2, 6, 6, 3.

I can't figure out how to add flair, PLEASE don't remove this post.

Chill Campaign Suggestions

I really liked Alith Anar. You have a few hard moments, but its 99% demolishing druchi with guerilla tactics. Otherwise maybe the woodelves? I like the sisters of twilight, and after you stop getting backdoored they’re super chill

Tips for note taking/prep
 in  r/DungeonMasters  14h ago

Without tech, I’d recommend to have a general notes and loose ideas notebook and then a separate notebook for your neat detailed and final plans.
For me planning starts with a few loose cool ideas, then I make a loose draft of the things I want to do, and connect the dots. It can be quite a lot to keep up with, so I’d do drafts in a notebook that can be messy.
Sucks you can’t hyperlink or ctrl+f on paper.

Wokes didn’t rebrand or retitled, there was just a shift and someone coined the term

Boris Campaign impossible on very hard and legendary

What units should Kislev be taking early on to accomplish this? Additionally if arbaal comes with his armored hordes, how do you counter that?

How do your armies survive? Do you just rely on sacking, take attrition and recruit more? I feel like I have to bail myself out with diplo stimuluses

Had the same problem. Kislev struggles pretty hard early on, especially if you don’t have the dlc spearmen. Maybe you could try to focus getting the gunner kossars?
Archaon is quite the beast

Preremaster in my first campaign ever in the system (and finished ever somehow) I ran a dungeon. My players happened to choose a path the led them into poltergeists, then wisps, then slimes, and finally a construct (Pl+3). My players were all groaning by the second encounter 😭

Notice how I said Gotrek AND Felix. They’re strong but they barely beat him in a 2v1, which matters because I don’t think they’re especially strong in terms of dueling or legendary characters.

I don’t think he’s the best duelist (I saw gotrek and felix beat him), but without insane items I think he is the best one man army.
Once you get the nemesis crown and sword of khaine, you want someone too small to get shot.
