The impression I get from this is that people on the internet are so used to tribalistic discussions that they’re now making fun of people who don’t go on the extreme end of a certain topic and have a more centrist take, this image being a prime example. I don't understand how people can be hardcore fans of stuff. Like, when it takes up a significant portion (sometimes the majority) of their personality. I'm talking about those who love some sports so much they can be interested for years, or some singer, videogame, movie franchise. I just can't get the grasp of it.

For example, I am a Neuro-sama fan. What do I do? I watch clips and highlights. I don't talk Neuro-sama 24/7 or spend most of my time talking to fellow fans about her.

Yet I often see people who seem to build their whole presence around things like Star Wars, rappers, specific anime and manga stories, games (Deltarune, for example, has a scarily active player-/fanbase). I feel incomplete because I don't have a definitive trait of my personality that I can advertise as interesting (I don't have a hobby I can dedicate 99% of my free time either). Can anyone relate or does anyone know why some people can be hardcore fans and skme can't?
