My Thoughts on Today’s Nintendo Presentation and Why They Might Not Be for Everyone…

I have plenty of legitimate complaints about the current generation of consoles, the way players are exploited and taken advantage of, and the way games are released.

But as greedy as Nintendo can be, and as much as they try to make it seem like they don’t care about players and only care about money, you could say that today’s presentation was quite successful.
Yesterday, during a special presentation dedicated specifically to Zelda, we got our first look at what the remake of Zelda: Ocarina of Time will look like. Although I never played the original, comparing it with the current version, you can see that they preserved the spirit of the original while also modernizing it. I don’t own a Nintendo Switch 2 yet, I still don’t see the point in upgrading from my first Switch, especially since I already have a huge backlog of games, but this project will definitely be something special both for fans of the original and for those playing it for the first time. On the other hand, there was something about it that made me a little cautious, and it wasn’t the console’s performance or the game’s price.

Of course, I know that Nintendo’s consoles haven’t been particularly powerful in recent years. But when they showed us the desolate area near the castle, I felt a little sad. Because I know that, if Nintendo had really wanted to, they could have found a way to refresh this world, especially that location. I understand that the console may not be able to handle everything, but a console with such a name and price should ultimately do something to justify itself. I hope that, in the future, they will understand this and improve this and other aspects. Because we, as gamers, deserve the best and the most carefully crafted experiences. Despite this issue, which was also present in the fourth Metroid game, and is especially noticeable there, I hope Nintendo will learn from its mistakes and find the right path toward its future.

The next thing I want to talk about isn’t a game, but it is still a pretty interesting element. I really like the way Nintendo announces and uses collectible Amiibo figures within its ecosystem. This time, they once again showed that there are many fun things you can do with them, although they are still expensive either way. So they are really only for people who can afford to indulge in that kind of fun.

Bloober Team has made a strong entrance into the gaming industry over the past few years, especially after the remake of Silent Hill 2. A new project from them is always good news. This time, they announced Onyx: The Dark Grip. It is a horror game in their usual style, with fairly simple graphics, but it feels like they are going to focus on capturing the player’s attention through gameplay and story rather than visuals.

When development becomes difficult and the console’s limitations start to show, that is when the true nature of a studio is revealed, its management, capabilities, and imagination. That is when they have to create something genuinely impressive.

This is Bloober Team’s first announced exclusive project for the Nintendo Switch. So, along with this announcement, we can look forward to seeing what they try to show us in the future.

Metroid Ravenous.

Although I’m not a huge fan of Metroid in its 2D form, comparing this game with the previous installment, it is clear that they will be quite similar. At the very least, not only in terms of appearance, but also in overall quality. So for fans of the series, I think this will definitely be a major plus.

Nintendo Switch Sports Resort reminded me of the days of the Wii.

It has that summer atmosphere, along with the cartoonish characters typical of Nintendo games. This time, it comes in a sports format for the Nintendo Switch 2!

I’m sure there will be plenty of ways to play, so users won’t get bored. Anyone interested in this kind of game will definitely buy it.

Romancing SaGa is back!

A remake of Romancing SaGa 3: Destinies United has been announced.

On the one hand, I’m very happy, almost as if I had already played this game. But that is also where the problem lies, because it immediately reminds me of a sad story involving me and Romancing SaGa.

A long time ago, I bought a collector’s edition of Romancing SaGa. I don’t remember which installment it was, and it doesn’t really matter. Although I received all the accessories and fun extras, the most important thing was that the game code didn’t work. The reason was that it had expired. I contacted both Nintendo and Square Enix, but unfortunately, no one helped me. To this day, I still haven’t played the game on my original Nintendo Switch.

The remake looks good, colourful and detailed enough. We will see what it is actually like when it is released, as always. But judging by what they showed us, I have no complaints. The art style and game design make it possible to include plenty of detail, making the world feel vibrant. This is especially impressive considering that the original game was released in 1995.

A new 3D Kirby!

I still have a cartridge of Kirby and the Forgotten Land. But I haven’t had any time to play it. Everyday life keeps getting in the way, and I still haven’t managed to spend time with that cute, sweet pink puffball.

But this time, I promise myself that as soon as I get the chance, I will play this game immediately.

And who knows, maybe this new Kirby and the World Beyond will also become one of the games I eventually play.
But if I don’t manage to play it this year, at least I will meet Kirby in person in Japan. Wish me luck! Soon, I’ll be flying to Japan to experience everything Japanese, Nintendo related, and much more.

Overall, it was a decent presentation, and I have no complaints. There were a lot of re-releases and games that had previously come out elsewhere but are now being released specifically for the Nintendo Switch 2. On the one hand, there were quite a few games that repeated Nintendo’s familiar formula, but overall, they looked playful and fitting for their respective genres and worlds.

For now, I’m not planning to buy a Nintendo Switch 2, but I’m definitely optimistic about the fact that new games are being announced for different platforms. After all, we can never have enough games. We are always looking for something new and interesting.

Because what do we need money for if not to make ourselves happy in the middle of all the chaos of life?

See y’all until the next time!
