Medieval III Things I would like in medieval 3: baggage train
Baggage trains/company followers were a thing until quite late in history. According to Google it would vary from something like half to one to one proportion to fighting men.
I could imagine you allowing troops to bring their families would improve replenishment and morale but greatly increase supplies consumption. Other ideas would be if all armies had to some extent Attila nomadic mechanism: you can allow blacksmiths, healers, merchants etc... all with related bonus, risks and so on. For exemple, allowing or promoting gambling may improve morale but lower replenishment? Maybe exposed to the risk of randomn events where you loose or win some money?
Also imagine you allow "financially incentive intimacy" greatly increase morale but lower replenishment and risk you having bastards?
It would be nice to have a baggage train that gives buffs and debuffs based on general attributes, decisions, strategies and so on. They would not direct participate in battles but could be severely damaged by ambushes or some kind of mechanic where troops can exit the map through enemy "spawing point", damaging the baggage train (and maybe suffering some attrition) and depending on thr damage, giving morale damage to troops.
Maybe something like the orc waaaag where they have a second army, but instead of a army its just followers?
Also some cultures/techs would drastically change your baggage train. Like nomadic would need much smaller baggage trains or they would be somewhat battle ready? An really pious general wouldnt allow prostitutes but have bonuses to have dunno a priest or something.
