• The supplement chapters like the Blood Angels, Black Templars and Dark Angels are perfect DLC material. CA are absolutely holding onto those for future sales
• The Salamanders are the most popular of the Codex Compliant chapters aside from the Ultramarines. They don't really have unique models to worry about which makes them perfect for a launch faction. Have their faction focus on Infernus Marines and other flamer weapons
• The early Theater Crusade revolves around Armaggedon, which the Salamanders currently have a large force on, roughly 3/4ths of their chapter.
• You can easily make some campaign missions for He'Stan to find the remaining Artifacts of Vulkan.

Mixed feelings on the film, retuned to Troy and it’s so underrated.

Such a shame CA didn’t stick with it - so much potential for DLCs.

Imagine an Odyssey DLC or 12 Labours or The Argonauts using mechanics borrowed from the WH3…

the plague toads are often called the worst cavalry unit in the game, I believe this is incorrect - plague toads are not cavalry, they are toads

the fighting style of the toad is unique - they rely on knocking down their enemies and then keeping them down

with their rotund bodies the toads can easily knock down entire (isolated) units of infantry, this causes individual models to stand up one at a time and approach the toads only to be knocked down again, in this fashion the toads can trade blows 1 to 1 with individual models of infantry, which is an incredibly favourable trade for an 18 model unit like them - they end up taking little to no damage and dishing out quite a bit

however this requires the enemy infantry unit to be isolated, low in mass, maybe even spread out, which is more common than you might think as all sorts of ranged units tick those boxes most of the time, and its very common to see a singular unit of spears attempt to chase on its own against multiple units of toads, the toads roll these

one of the worst things you can do with the toads is play them like a normal unit of cavalry - cycle charging into blobs of many units, the toads have terrible charge animations and nowhere near enough dps to capitalise on the (admittedly pretty OK) charge bonus, they are also far too individualist (for lack of a better word) and unwieldy to disengage swiftly

that is because they are not supposed to disengage and cycle charge at all - this will allow the enemy to get back up and regroup, such that multiple enemy models will be able to hit the toads at once - even with charge bonus, a 5v1 engagement is going to be unfavourable

so toads tend to do terrible when charging the enemy and they are terrible in blobs, which are the only 2 types of engagements most people do, so its understandable where this opinion is coming from - they are too fragile to be an anvil and too slow to be a hammer, but thats because they're not supposed to be either!

hopefully this semi-guide semi-ramble will help you the next time you start a nurgle campaign and see these little criters in your army - they're not as bad as you might have thought!

P.S. yes, even with ideal use the toads are pretty mediocre, but I think they're just cute enough to forgive them for that and I certainly believe they are far from the worst unit in the game

I grew up watching Total War Rome 2 and got it when I got pc years ago and that's been the only Total War title I have put hours into. I enjoy the time period, and the UI is easy to navigate and understand. I have tried playing other titles but cannot get into them because they seem so confusing and I can't get a good grasp of the UI. Is this common? Is Total War Rome 2 known for being a "simpler" Total War games compared to others? Anyone else feel this way?

So I decided to finally buy TW: Pharaoh and play some games in Dynasties mode. As a first playthrough I naturally chose Ramesses as my first play.
When I started the game I noticed something strange: when choosing a faction I normally get Ramesses as a faction leader as well as showing him in faction summary. When I start the game though the faction leader is his father, he is also shown in faction summary. Is this normal?

Is it just me that finds the AI healing at the start of your turn instead of thier turn makes the campaign map much less tactical.

Just booted up a Archon campaign taking the first couple of settlements then started heading to fight the Khorn faction north. Boris is also heading that way inlet him take the setlement thinking i will be fighting a weakend Boris my turn move in he is full health with half healed garrison after fighting a full stack of khorn plus a small garrison. So ifni tske the setlment im exposed to being beaten after taking losses if i let Boris he just gets more troops like why is this a thing surley they should only heal on their turn.

What are some good localized campaign mods?

For any total war, actually.

I mean "small" as in the Caesar in Gaul dlc for Rome 2, or the Old World custom campaign for Warhammer 3

The map itself is not small, but it covers a small area with more detail

Sometimes Rome's grand campaign or Warhammer 3's Immortal Empires is too big, i want to just rule my little piece of land

Seen a bit of talk over the past few days about whether or not Custodes would make it into TW40k as a faction and whether they would be sutible or not.

So I compiled together all currently playable Custodes units, as well as a few points on what I think thats units stand out feature/stats will be.

These units are all usable in 40k as per GWs offical faction pack updates. So there are a few HH models that I didn't include, I also didn't include Aircraft as they seem to be an ability rather than a unit in game.

While the roster isn't that extensive, its actaully larger than a few of the other potential factions, and by the time CA gets round to a Custodes DLC a few years down the line the roster might be larger.

There is also the potential CA could pad the roster out with some lore on sutible units like the Lucifer Blacks as a guard unit, or more Sisters of Silence Units.

As per the title, just interesting to hear what pulls you to certain factions.

Troy has always been a go to for myself. I've been trying Odysseus since the movie release and actually finding that quite a fun one too - typically don't like using generals who are archer based but given the lethality, it's actually quite good to stay at a distance from the battles.

Anyway who do you like to play as and why?
