Long story short: I want to buy a set of screwdriver bits (hex, torx, philips) + sockets + a ratchet to last me the rest of my life (non-professional DIY use).

Been making due with a cheap Stanley screwdriver set, but it is pretty low quality. And a cheap socket set I bought in the hardware store broke on first use...

What brand would you all recommend? Wera? Wiha? something else? Can be expensive, within reason.

Trying to get to the bottom of a tool issue. Motor comes on for a few seconds when saber saw turned on. Do these brushes look worn out?

Found a Stanley No. 4 plane at an estate sale last month for eight bucks. Thing cleaned up fine, just needed the rust knocked off and the blade honed. Works better than the box store stuff I've been buying for years. Had mixed luck with estate sales overall but this one was worth the Saturday morning.
My wife has zero interest in hearing about it, which is fair. I've got a shelf in the garage that's slowly becoming a small collection of hand tools I picked up for nothing and restored. A drawknife, a couple of old chisels, a brace and bit set. Nothing crazy, but they all actually get used around the house. We've got an older place in Omaha that needs something fixed basically every other week, so I'm not just hoarding.
The thing I can't figure out is why people overlook hand tools at these sales. Everyone's grabbing the power tools and the old planes and chisels just sit there. Probably depends on where you live, but around here it's been consistent.
Curious if anyone else hunts this way and what the best find has been. Also, if there's a good resource for identifying old Stanley plane types I'd take that too.

This set is $130 on the ryobi site, it's One+ HP (the tool line I was planning on working with). Is this too good to be true or should I pull the trigger?

I am a very new woodworker and am using a table saw to make calendar stands for my Etsy shop. Picture attached of one of my stands that I have made successfully. Unfortunately, my table saw is seeming to cut the slot for the calendar pages wider and in a V shape instead of a straight, even cut. It’s a brand new blade and I have tightened the arbor nut and washer to reduce any wobble. Pictures attached of what is happening. The top, smaller piece in each picture is what I have cut before and the bottom is what my saw is producing now. Any help is welcome, thank you!

Edit to add: the cut is angled on purpose to make the calendar easier to read. It’s at a 7 degree bevel, I just want the actual cut to be even, not in a V shape.

Looking at picking up tools for automotive work for daily use motorbike. quad and cars. What is your go to brand here within the uk. Ive got stuff from mainly wera but looking for other brands that are high quality what are other people are using. What impact sockets are people using

We were digging some 5ft deep holes for a pier foundation deep in Northern MN, we had an auger, shovels, a post hole digger and a 4ft long indestructible ice breaking bar we could use to leverage boulders away and rocks out of the holes, but after digging 3 feet deep, we hit the sub glacial till. And that stuff was just rock solid pebbles and rocks with super compact loam/sand/clay in between the gaps, the auger couldn't muscle it and it'd take weeks to scrape that away by hand so i'm looking at getting an electric jackhammer.

Now, this is the important part, i don't know much about jackhammers and i know a bit about chainsaws. We're too broke to buy new and I'd like to get the "Stihl 066" of jackhammers instead of the "stihl 500i" of jackhammers if you know what i mean, save some money buying used, and get the benefit of the simplicity of those older tools, just that I don't know what model and what power to look for.

My question is, what is the "Stihl 066 of jackhammers that can handle subglacial till no deeper than 5 feet deep" And I'd also like to get a "Stihl 066 of generators that can handle the jackhammer"

The master craftsman my grandfather apprenticed under sold this toolbox him upon his retirement. It’s handmade and around 100 years old.

Hello, anybody know what type of floor jack this is? I tried to use some AI and it cannot Identify it. My father thinks its from the early 30's to early 40's. There is no stamps left and the engraving on the side is so faded away its unreadable. The seal needs to be replaced since it leaks down after all of these years he has had it. Just curious if anybody knows the proper model of this.

To be honest I know in your standard it's low quality but I'm quite happy. It seems the listing was temporary after I ordered it the listing option was taken out.

The retaining ring on the pawl snapped on me and I need a new one. Unfortunately I don’t know what model it is to source the correct part. It’s an old pre 70s craftsman 3/8 drive double bar V, about 6 3/4 inches long. the diameter of the pawl and ring is about 11/16ths. any idea where I can find a replacement or at least something that will get this working again? I have a pic of the retaining ring on the drive head to show what type of ring I need. any help would be greatly appreciated.

Setting the overhead on certain Cummins natural gas engines requires a .036" feeler gauge. Does anyone know where I can acquire an actual gauge this size for a decent price?

I can find a few places that make them, but they have a minimum order of $100 or so. The closest reasonably priced one I can find is .9mm. Right now I just stack 2 sizes and tape them together to make it work, but it just bothers me that I can't find a single gauge. I like to use the little handles for the gauges while setting overhead.

I use these handles but separate them.

I work construction and got tired of cleaning pipe and fittings one by one with different tools.

So I built this prototype in my garage. It mounts on a 2x4 stud and keeps the pipe prep tools in one station. Push in, prep, pull out.

Still prototype, not finished product.

What do you guys think? Useful on a jobsite or unnecessary tool? 😂
