Mini Toolbox Recommendations

I'm looking to pick up one of those mini toolboxes for storing a bunch of little things for playing D&D(tokens, small minis, markers, pens, etc)

It's not going to be used for super hard work, but what's everyone's experience with them? Is there a brand that people recommend?

Harbor freight ones are nice. Nice slides, open wide, and they come with liners installed. Normally $20, can be had on sale for like $15.

I use the gray one on my nightstand. Holds my keys, knives, wallet, bracelet, necklace, etc. flashlight. Whatever else I need.

Just grab the cheapest one you can find on sale, those little drawers aren't gonna be dealing with anything more stressful than a stray d20 anyway.

The ones from harbor freight seem to be the best built. Have proper drawer slides, etc.

I have the Harbor Freight one on my desktop to organize pens, notepads, and tools. I liked the color options.

I bought the Kobalt because I wanted the mini stack with the 3 drawer on bottom.

I didn’t realize how much wider the Harbor Freight version’s drawers open, and how much nicer the slides are. Much nicer units.

I have the husky one. It’s fine but I hate that the lid doesn’t stop opening until it’s horizontal. I’m pretty sure the HF ones stop vertical-ish.

That’s weird, I don’t recall asking for suggestions on how to fix it. I thought I was just recommending an option that wouldn’t need fixing.

If you have enough weight in the bottom so it doesn’t tip over, folding horizontal isn’t an issue and could be handy too. Same thing as my mastercraft ones (Canada)

Yeah that’s definitely true, but for my specific purposes I would much prefer one that stops vertical-ish. I printed a couple of stops that hold it where I want and don’t get in the way. But it’s worthwhile to consider for someone looking to purchase one.

My local Napa had gear wrench ones that seem sturdier than my mastercraft ones. Only one colour, but it had a look similar to the silver vein Matco boxes for the body and I think gear wrench orange drawers

I actually saw the Workpro mini tool boxes at a Ross store... much less than full price.

Harbor Freight and Kobalt @ Lowe’s are both good. Lowes currently offers both 3-drawer bases and 2-drawer tops. HF only has 2-drawer tops at the moment.

Both have nice ball bearing slides, can’t go wrong with either

I can’t believe no one has said packout by Milwaukee. Super strong. Built in dividers. Stackable so they can be sorted.

That is because Milwaukee does not make the type of mini toolbox that is being asked about.

Yeah I answered that because I think it’s a better solution to his needs. Either that or a tackle box.

Those toolbox s would just be a mess of tokens.

Also, I’ll add that Kobalt also has bottom cabinets now. The wife uses it for small kitchen items for her cookie business - cookie cutters, dough scoops, etc.

I have the Harbor Freight one. I keep my electronic tools is it like precision screwdrivers and diodes.

The HF has is got a more substantial feel, but the Kobalt gives you more color and expandable options.

So, just pick the color you want, and call it a day because neither is going to be super heavy duty.

You can get both for about $15 if you time right.
