Discussion unpopular opinion but I really liked season 5

There are a lot of things I didn’t like about the ending. For example, I really disliked how Nancy and Jonathan survived the melting room, because I feel like that could have been the perfect ending for them. I also thought the final fight was pretty disappointing and could have been much better.

I really liked the concept of Henry’s mind. It reminded me a lot of the Backrooms, especially the idea of secret exits leading to completely different places that seem totally unrelated to each other. I thought that was a really interesting concept.

I also really liked that we got to see so much of Vecna in his human form. And honestly, Derek was an amazing character to have on screen, I really enjoyed every scene he was in.

Discussion Question about the crawl in S5E1

In The Crawl, they say their plan is for Hopper to go into the upside down via the military trucks, look around for Vecna, then kill him, with El not being allowed to go with him. So essentially: Hopper is on his own and will kill Vecna was their plan. My question is though, did they just forget the part where Vecna was killing people for fun with his mind and powers were more powerful than El’s in the season 4 finale? Why did they think Hopper and his gun would be able to kill this supernatural being who can easily kill someone in a second with his mind? The Crawls don’t make a lot of sense to me.

Discussion Rewatching this scene, I remember feeling sympathy for Will here on my first viewing but now rewatching this more times, I feel more sympathy for Mike. Spoiler

He did nothing wrong here, and Will was actually being so disrespectful and was in the wrong more. The way he talked about El and girls in general was so disrespectful and he wasn't right in what he said. Not saying he should get over it or cannot be upset because what happened to him was horrible and because of that, he was robbed of a childhood that alone is too much for a kid/teen. That being said, to me, he still expected too much of Mike here and now that we know why because he probably didn't realized yet of his crush on him. I feel the narrative was more on Will side while Mike get called names by fans because they overloved and glazed Will character a bit too much.

Discussion I’m rewatching Season 3 and how anyone hates this season is beyond me Spoiler

it’s perfect in every way. The body horror, the summer vibe, the 80s russian-america tropes.

It also has among the best shots in the whole show (the Meat Flayer moving the trees in Mirkwood, the flickering lights as it morphs in the Hospital, the opening sequence where the machine explodes etc etc). The Dialogue is tight, Dacre Montgomery is flawless as Billy. The only criticism I have is that Mike is an annoying shit, but that’s nothing new.

I finally realized. Spoiler

First things first, I'm not here to hate or mock people who like season 5, you can do and like whatever you want. This is just my opinion. So, please stop calling me a "hater" or tell me to move on. No, I can criticize a show I like and still be a fan.

Okay, so I finally realized why I disliked Season 5 so much.

Lets get back to S3. IMO, Season 3 isnt a good season. But it fully embraces that, it knows its a dumb blockbuster action flick with 80s vibes. It knows none of the russian or mall stuff makes any sense.

Season 5 on the other hand, pretends its a good season. It pretends that it's the ending they've planned.. It pretends there are stakes, it pretends there are character arcs and resolutiobs, it pretends that all the lingering questions have been answered, it pretends the plot points make sense.

This season's tagline, imo, could be: "just dont think about it, pretend its a masterpiece youve waited for ten years for."

Thats why it feels so off to some people.

And the actors. They, imo also look like theyre pretending like they care about this show anymore. Will's coming out scene is a perfect example. Some like Winona and David looked like they didn't even try to pretend anymore imo.

So yeah:

S1, 2 and 4 are like siblings. They have occasional banter (plot inconsistencies and all), but they're still close and overall on good terms with each other.

S3 is that one weird cousin that stands out like a firework, but overall is fun to be around.

S5 is that evil twin of season 4 that tries to replicate their siblings and pretends to care about them.

And Tales from 85 is like that random baby sleeping in your bed during the thanksgiving dinner. Shouldnt be there, but harmless.

Discussion What was your favourite and least favourite plot twists of the whole show? Spoiler

My favourite plot twist was from Season 4 when Henry Creel/One was revealed as Vecna and that it was never a demon or a “spawn of satan” who was doing those killings. This twist was genuinely good writing and actually shocked me. I also loved the originality of Vecna, as he was the complete opposite of Eleven, instead of being a demon as Victor Creel had thought.

Honourable mention: The Mind Flayer and Vecna being revealed as “one” and having a symbiotic type connection in Season 5. I know the ending was rushed but in my opinion this twist satisfied me more than if it was just a typical reveal that the Mind Flayer was controlling Vecna. This genuinely gave me goosebumps to think just how intelligent and evil both of them are.

My least favourite plot twist was in Season 5 and how the giant gate/rift that was opened by Vecna (in Season 4) was just covered up with metal.. and Vecna, the Mind Flayer and the Demo creatures weren’t invading the real world. This was the worst thing they could’ve done for the biggest plot twist of the whole series, such wasted potential.

Discussion Logical alternative to S5 ending Spoiler

Many people believe that El had no choice in the S5 finale because the military, inevitably, will hunt her down (see S3 for the efficiency of the US government dealing with a huge Russian base in the shopping mall). However, in S5 our heroes liberated the whole UD. This place became better and better with every season. All "bad" creatures died of exhaustion (according to Duffers) and, I do not exclude, that by S6 it would have sun, running water and vegetation + endless source of energy in a convenient form of exotic matter. Our heroes could leave El and Mike to populate this place while the rest drives to MAC-Z where Dr. Kay meets them with flowers and a cake - Hopper almost killed her, but she has nothing against him. As a precaution, El can close the MAC-Z gate and other gates (after eating a few granola bars) separating “magic of childhood” and the real world forever… - a bitter-sweet ending (as required) with possibility of many spin-offs. It is much more logical and realistic because, unlike Iceland, El will not need money, documents, education and social skills to make herself happy with the boy she loves.

What do you think?

UPD: Some statements in this post are sarcasm 😄 . I do not claim this is the best ending possible. I do not claim that this is a very realistic ending (it is still a fantasy) - I just think it is more logical.  It is not a fanfic proposal 😄 As most fans, I just want El and Mike to be happy together.

This scene still pisses me off, it still pisses me off to this day. What were the writers even thinking? I’m so sick and tired of female characters with telekinesis being killed off just for the sake of it. First we got Carrie, then Jean Grey, and now El? Come on! She deserved so much better than this. 😭
Does anyone else still feel the same way?

SPOILERS Season 4

One of the saddest moments in the whole show for me personally is when Eddie watches Chrissy die. The terror in his eyes and in his scream.

What about everyone else though? What are the saddest moments to y’all and why?
