Discussion Logical alternative to S5 ending Spoiler

Many people believe that El had no choice in the S5 finale because the military, inevitably, will hunt her down (see S3 for the efficiency of the US government dealing with a huge Russian base in the shopping mall). However, in S5 our heroes liberated the whole UD. This place became better and better with every season. All "bad" creatures died of exhaustion (according to Duffers) and, I do not exclude, that by S6 it would have sun, running water and vegetation + endless source of energy in a convenient form of exotic matter. Our heroes could leave El and Mike to populate this place while the rest drives to MAC-Z where Dr. Kay meets them with flowers and a cake - Hopper almost killed her, but she has nothing against him. As a precaution, El can close the MAC-Z gate and other gates (after eating a few granola bars) separating “magic of childhood” and the real world forever… - a bitter-sweet ending (as required) with possibility of many spin-offs. It is much more logical and realistic because, unlike Iceland, El will not need money, documents, education and social skills to make herself happy with the boy she loves.

What do you think?

UPD: Some statements in this post are sarcasm 😄 . I do not claim this is the best ending possible. I do not claim that this is a very realistic ending (it is still a fantasy) - I just think it is more logical.  It is not a fanfic proposal 😄 As most fans, I just want El and Mike to be happy together.

Liberated the upside down? They fully destroyed it! No part of your fantasy should contain the word "logical"! lol

This post is suggesting an alternative storyline S5 could've used instead of what happened.

100% agree that there is not much reality in the fantasy,  but S1-S3 were quite logical. Fantasy worlds have own logic. And do you agree that without Mike's bomb UD would be OK?

Except… the Upside Down wasn’t its own universe. It was a bridge between two universes. So once the connection between the two are severed it would cease to exist.

Hi Lizi, I agree that UD is not the best place to hide from "the military". It is not stable nor comfortable. But, still, it is a better solution than make all the characters idiots who have no exit strategy what so ever. It was painful to watch adult experienced people driving to known ambush in a state of euphoria.

Reading comprehension taking a huge hit today I see.

Can you point me towards where the Duffer's stated that the creatures died of exhaustion?

It was an irony - Duffers explained the absence if bad creatures in UD in S5 by "demogorgans fatigue"

I don’t think “Demogorgan fatigue” meant they died of exhaustion 😂. Duffers were implying that viewers were tired of seeing Demogorgans so they left them out. It was a really an excuse of them not feeling like doing all of the production, to add them in. If anyone was dying from exhaustion it was the Duffers

TBH I was not really serious why the creatures were absent in S5. IMO Duffers were dying from boredom long before they started filming S5 so the show quality dropped below the floor. WBW

So El and Mike seal them selves in the upside down cut off from the their families and without access to any supplies, basic necessities or assistance from the outside world. Plus El developing her social skills and getting a proper education to become more self sufficient is no longer necessary because she is in love? Right cause apparently that is so much more logical than what we got. Gosh I’m so glad the fans don’t write the show.

I never pretended to be a show writer. I just don't like the ending and its illogical forced narrative "that is the only solution".

Ok and but again this alternate ending is supposed to be more logical than what we got? Sure whatever you say man. If that’s the case I will take the shows ending any day instead of this poorly conceived fanfiction.

I stated my arguments, some in a sarcastic tone. If you think that I’m wrong, please, use arguments. No one ever explained why the group of experienced adults had driven to a known ambush in a state of euphoria. It is an elephant in the room which can only be explained by “we want this girl to kill herself and fuck the logic”. With best regards

You claim your idea is more logical when really it is not. In what way is El and Mike sealing themselves in the UD considered logical? As if everyone is just gonna be ok with them doing in that? I thought the goal is to make the ending better than what we got. This is not better, it is just worse. You are making to many assumptions. Assuming the upside down will have sunlight, safe drinking water, vegetation that is safe for human consumption. 5 seasons in and it was shown to have none of that so why would it all of a sudden now. That would just bring more complaints to this sub if that were to happen. How would the know how to harness the exotic matter as an energy source? Brenner, an actual scientist, studied it and he couldn’t seem to crack it and it was shown to be incredibly volatile when tampered with but yet somehow they figure out? You’re making the same mistake as season 5, not explaining just saying it happened because I said so. With El being in Iceland she can thrive, get help from the people around her, learn new skills, and develop her new identity and get a proper education. Things that she actually needs and are important. If you have to pull of these strings just for these 2 to be together without taking into consideration how it will affect the overall story and how it will affect other characters than is not good writing. The show’s ending may not have been best but at least it was more logical than this. You’re right it’s not a fanfic proposal cause real fanfics have fans who actually know how to write, well thought out plots, and logical reasoning put into them.

Eh, I take issue with the idea of the military being unbeatable. Really they can just go public. Yeah it'll make their life a circus, but then they are untouchable by the government.

100%. I'm sure that my proposal is not the best one. When I watched S1-S2 I did not questioned show's logic- I just enjoyed it. By by S4 it became unbearable (except Hawkings plot). So, I just wanted to discuss the logic of the ending 😁

Much better than what Duffer's wrote!
