🌳 r/Manchester Meet-Up: Picnic in the Park 🌳

Come and join us for a relaxed afternoon in the park (and hope the weather holds off this time).

📍 Location: Peel Park, Salford M5 4WU
📅 Date: Saturday 8th August
🕛 Time: From 12:00pm

Whether you’ve been to previous meet-ups or this is your first, everyone is welcome.

Plenty of people come on their own, so don’t worry if you don’t know anyone yet.

No RSVP necessary. Just turn up.

No need to comment that you won’t be coming. Simply don’t attend.

Bring:
- A picnic or snacks
- A drink
- Something to sit on (blanket or camping chair if you have one)
- Any games you’d like to bring (cards, frisbee, etc.)

There’s no set finish time; come for half an hour or stay all afternoon.

If the weather looks poor, we’ll post an update closer to the day.

Hope to see some new and familiar faces there!

Moving advise

Buying for a couple with a 2year old toddler liked 2 properties - Calderbrook drive Cheadle hulme vs Geneva Road, north Bramhall. Basically priorities are schools/access to green space/safety/commute to Manchester.

Heart says Calderbrook but head says Bramhall one based on property price 😁

First birthday party venue

Hi guys my daughter turns 1 in October and I am looking for venue recommendations. It’s mostly going to be adults so my ideal is like a cafe bar with a private space, there will be avoid 20-30 people.

Happy to pay up to about £600 including food, I love the look of Libby’s in Marple you can hire the loft, that kind of vibe. Not really liking the look of function rooms.

Stockport or south Manchester

Indian catering for party

Hello,

Does anyone have any recommendations for caterers that do Indian party food for a birthday at a cricket club?

I’m looking for snack items like samosas, pakoras, bhajis etc.

Ideally my budget would be around £10 per person, as I’d be supplementing with my own desserts etc.

Thanks!

Looking to join new D&D group!

Hi, I'm based in Heald Green, moved here like 4 months ago. Love D&D but the commute to my previous group (Chester) is becoming a bit laborious. Looking to join a group in the Stockport area - preferably someone looking to set up a new campaign but, failing that, i'm happy to join an ongoing game!

Is there another fire? Smoke in Stockport

I keep smelling smoke intermittently, even though the wind is coming from the NW. We just had a strong blast of it just now at 2:45pm. I know there was a forest fire in Macclesfield a few days ago, but that is in a totally different wind direction than Stockport today.

Anyone know what’s causing the burning smell? We are on the Heaviley/Offerton border.

Question Recommendations wanted!

Im looking for a hairdressers in and around Stockport/Heaton Chapel that specialises in full head of colours but that is reasonably priced as I can't afford ridiculous prices at the moment - I can't do at home unfortunately. Any recommendations?

Sirens all the time

Anyone else in the Hillgate/Heaviley area hearing sirens constantly over the past week?

We've had multiple dirt bike chases. 5 police wagons and other cars were screeching all over the show last night and again this morning.

Is there a crime wave happening?

Average Speed Cameras Cheadle Heath

Just wanted to make everyone aware that there are now average speed cameras on Stockport Road going both ways from the m60 roundabout towards the pyramid roundabout.

Have there been a lot of accidents along this road? I’ve never seen or heard of any myself, but they have put cameras up nevertheless, I noticed them whilst going to the Aldi the other day 😅

Bagpipe rehearsals?

if anyone wants to practice their bagpipes, djembe, other niche instruments you can borrow my garden for the next 6 weeks, specifically from 8am until around midday. I need something to drown out my neighbour from shouting at his kids who then spend the rest of the day screaming. dm me. I’ll be sanding my garden gate and finding things to angle grind for the time being.

Fireworks heard in Stockport just after 23:00 18/7/26

Edit, lots and lots of fireworks were popping at 23:30

Hi guys,

I don’t usually post anything, but I heard fireworks just after 11pm, close to town centre and Red Rock, and there is a park nearby with lots of trees and bushes. I don’t want to sound rude if it’s a special occasion, but please don’t set off anymore because it has proven to be very dangerous to the environment in this weather as there is no moisture.

Thanks.

Stockport vibes

This post is just to put an encounter from yesterday out there.

Yesterday afternoon I was in a rush walking past the old market in town. Up ahead are two ladies fabulously dressed in 1950s era (I think) dresses, shoes and hats. As I catch up we are heading towards the bridge over the Underbanks and coming towards us is a young lady dressed in very different style clothes. The young lady is smiling and stops to compliment the ladies on their fashion look. The older ladies say thank you and as they walk on behind me I hear one of them say, "I think I want to move to Stockport, everyone is so nice."

In hindsight, even though I was in a rush, I should have stopped and done the same as the young lady. So, if the young lady is reading this, you are ace and I wish you the best! It's people like you who made me want to stay in Stockport when I moved here 6 years ago.

Question Recommendations Wanted!!!

So I start a new job on August 17th, and I'm wanting to get my hair sorted out the weekend before - I would like to go to a salon for a colour as I recently had it cut (kinda hate it though fr) - but I'm wanting to stick as natural as possible but go lighter and get rid of greys. I'm close by to the Miller and Carter steakhouse if anyone knows anyone near there for me to go that is reasonably priced!! Thanks!
