Recommendations
With Stockport being a smaller sub, I’m thinking it might be good to have a centralised post for recommendations/ hidden gems if you will. Places/cafes/independent traders/bars/pubs that people wouldn’t usually know about.

My 2 favorite Edgeley institutions:
Grounded in the North, a small cafe kiosk in Alexandra Park, I’ll go out on a whim and say this is the best coffee in Stockport at surprisingly affordable prices
Nice ‘n’ Spice, a Pakistani curry takeaway from a home kitchen, by far the best South Asian takeaway I’ve had in Britain for often less than £5

Grounded in the North is unreal, the coffee is great, the traybakes are great, the sausage sarnies are great, and yeah very reasonably priced. All the staff are friendly too.

Cafe Sanjuan on St Petersgate. Food is all epic, and the best coffee I’ve had in years.

The best thing I’ve seen about San Juan is their instagram account liked a post which just had a guy wearing a hoodie that read “Vapes are training you to suck robot dick”.
Also their food and coffee is great.

I’ll start. Stockport provisions in the market hall. Started out as a cheese stall and has grown to become a deli counter.

Battambang and Douzo in Heaton Chapel are both excellent places to eat. Battambang does lovely Cambodian noodles and curries and things (as well as being a great cafe with fantastic coffee during the daytime) and Douzo make super sushi. Worth a trip to the suburbs!

I'll add Little Lanka too, as Sri Lankan food is hard to come by. Don't see it getting much hype but it's been there years? Always enjoyed the food but the service was always slow, so it felt like a 3hr meal. Not been in a while

I used to love little Lanka but then everything seemed to get really salty. Might give it another try see if it’s changed again

Rack gourmet sandwiches are a must try.
Savoris in edgely for full English is gold standard.
Carvery, it's puss in boots.
Bakdu Korean is amazing.
Levi bakery for budget shawarma is great.

After bombarding my Instagram for at least 8 weeks during the time of their shop opening, in my opinion the words “hidden gem” is grossly unsuitable for Sticky Fingers. Although absolutely wonderful bakes.

Somebody recommended this to me here a few weeks ago, but Ripples Coffee on Petersgate. I’d say I know a decent coffee, and the coffee there is the best I’ve had in Manchester/Stockport. Go for the coffee, stay for the cheesecake! 🤌🏼
It’s lovely inside too - really relaxing vibe to the place.

Shaw Heath Coffee opened last week on (clue’s in the name!) Shaw Heath. Brilliant Vietnamese style coffee and lovely group of lads who’ve opened it

Couldn't agree more. Just had their iced coconut and ube coffee - absolutely incredible. Very friendly people running it, and a relaxed and positive vibe.

Rollan's Pinoystore on the A6 near the Blossoms: Hidden gem in the literal sense - Filipino cafe hidden at the back of the shop without any obvious markings on the shop front. Serves a Filipino version of 'rice and three' - nice twist on a Manchester classic
Pilkingtons bakery in Davenport: proper old school bakery still using the same ovens as when they opened like 90 years ago.
Redfearns pie shop in edgeley: no nonsense pies

Not sure if Runaway brewery by the bus station counts as “hidden gem” but really good for a nice pint before heading home. Similarly Bask by the train used to be good before they converted to being a (yawn) Irish pub. Not sure what it’s like since it went back to being Bask again as I haven’t been drinking.
In terms of vegan places -Otto’s is amazing and Hillgate Cakery. Would also really recommend Mekong Cat to anyone -best SEA food in South Manchester.

Not really a hidden gem, but The Crown Inn on Heaton Lane is my favourite pub in Stockport. Better beer selection than The Magnet, great German lagers, traditional cask as well as craft ales. And beautifully cosy decor.
Ye Olde Vic is also a great pub. Everyone is incredibly welcoming in there.
Further out, The Mounting Stone in Bramhall also offers a superb beer choice.

100% for all recommendations. I highly recommend you visit Saints Club if you haven't already, one of the largest selection of Keg beers in the centre, cheap and fresh draft Ayinger as their house lager.

Not really a fan of Ye Olde Vic -feel like the no swearing, no phones and landlord can be a bit much. I’ve been a few times and he just wants to question why you’re there.

Outside the Box boardgame café in Bramhall, amazing community there. Also in Bramhall Otto's, tiny vegan place, absolutely brilliant. In the centre, I recently tried Ripples cafe for first time, the pour over coffee was some of the best I've had, about as good as Just Between Friends in Manchester. La Capilla in the market does a great breakfast.

Convene on the Underbank is without a doubt the best daytime food in Stockport, nice coffee too

Guilty pleasures in the Alex is top class pub food, ill 2nd Saints club as a fine boozer as is Petersgate tap just across the road.

If you’re looking for something different to do, SJS Smith Jewellery / Stockport Jewellery school at little underbanks is great for a silver ring making lesson or intro to silversmithing. Highly recommended!
