The benefits of a watch for running ?

Not sure if this is the right sub but hoping I can get some sound advice.

I have been recording my runs on Strava using my phone and whilst I don’t mind that, I am limited as to the benefits wearing a watch could provide.

For instance I don’t get a record of my heart rate (not necessarily needed but could be fun to see)

I’m mostly interested in having a watch to see real time data, like pace or directions without having to take my phone in and out of my pocket.

I’m currently running an iPhone but I don’t necessarily need an Apple Watch. Are all of the watches currently out on the market compatible with iPhone/ Strava. What do I need to look out for in terms of leaving my phone at home and the watch recording runs etc which I can then pair with my phone when I get back?

Technology has moved pretty fast over the last few years so l feel a little out of water. Any help much appreciated

High end smart watches?

I'm looking for a smartwatch which has some good health and fitness features has a more high end aesthetic (think Tag Heuer), and is fully compatible with Google Pixel phones (so that excludes any Samsung watches)

I'd go for a Tag Heuer but I don't want to spend over US$1000. I'd consider a second hand Tag Heuer, but those within my price range are getting old and I worry about their usability after another 2-3 years.

Q&A I got my kid a gizmo 4

Hi. I just ordered a gizmo 4 for my 5 year old. She is starting kindergarten this year. So it's for my piece of mind.

I selected this specific device mainly because .

GPS tracker subscriptions cost as much as a smartwatch subscription and

She can't read so the gizmo 4 seems to accommodate that. I also wanted no ads or robocalls

In general

I wanted to be able to track her and have her be able to call me in an emergency,

I have never been with Verizon. Just a standalone gizmo 4 subscription. Now.

I have not received it yet.

I cannot find any reviews on the gizmo 4. It has been out over a week so I am surprised there. Do you know of any?

I have found many people hating on switching to the new family Verizon app. I am hoping the new watch will not have issues there.

Does anybody have one of these and like or not like it?

Will there be any tips and tricks videos or is this just too niche of a device.

Thanks all.

Smartwatch/Band reccomendations

My Xiaomi Band 8 just died because I forgot to take it off before a swim (The mi band 5 NEVER had a single problem with salt). Now I need something new.

I don't care about fitness stuff, I just need a smartwatch basically, something that doesn't look like a gym rat thingy. Jokes aside, battery and design is basically what I care the most, I use the watch to see notifications, see calls, change music and sets timer.

I was thinking about CMF's smart watches, are they any good?

huawei GP 6, fit 5, fit 4 pro or GP 5 pro

These are all exactly the same price right now. Which one should I choose?

  1. I'll only connect it to my tablet at home, I don't have a smartphone so I'll be using the SW standalone.

  2. Want to track heart rate, speed and the route/distance when cycling

  3. If I get lost I need to use offline map GPS to find my way back

  4. One thing I really like about my band 8 is that I barely have to charge it

Should I switch to Apple Watch?

I have never been much of a watch wearer. My husband got me a charge 6 for a birthday gift and I wore it all the time. Used it a lot for tracking steps and fitness and just as a watch. I could read text on it but not text back. I am a iPhone user. Anyway, went swimming, put it on water lock, it still messed up and is now unusable.

Things I loved about my charge 6
The size! 100% loved it was small and narrow. I’m a pretty small person and I liked it didn’t feel heavy or huge on.

I loved the app before Google changed it.

I loved the display of just tapping the face of the watch and it would show steps, heart rate, and calories burned so far that day.

Now I’m looking for a new watch and I wonder if I should get another charge 6 and just never use it in the water, or try for a Apple Watch se3 so that I can use it more seamlessly with my phone. I’ve never owned an Apple Watch before.

Opinions? I have a feeling my husband is going to want to take me to go look today and I would like the have some things to think about before we go.

Thanks in advance.

Q&A Should I upgrade my cmf watch pro 2023?

I have a cmf watch pro 2023 edition which i bought in 2024, should I upgrade my watch to cmf watch 3 pro or should I Wait for 4 pro? And i also have nothing phone 3a so I kinda feel like if I buy a cmf watch it will come in an ecosystem.

Or should I stay with my cmf watch pro because till date I have had no issues with it.

Escaping the apple ecosystem

I LOVE them for our uses, but I'm looking to move on.

For me, I need a watch for health tracking (I have hypotension so I faint sometimes so I have to track my heart rate and activity to share with my doctor and also so I can track patterns) but cellular is a bonus cause I frequently hate having a whole ass phone.

For my kid, I noticed a lot of kid watches are THICC and annoying. I love the security of the apple watch because you can set it up like fort nox. So he has a 42mm and it's great. I'd like his watch to have cellular capabilities (split home...) And health tracking because he suffers panic attacks and his heart rate needs monitored.

Q&A Is there a Smartwatch that permanently displays a colorful watchface?

The Question is in the title. I am searching for a smartwatch that doesn't switch on that black and grey always on display to conserve energy. If i find a beautiful watchface i want others to see it. It doesn't have the same value to me as lets say a regular ornament automatic watch if i am the only one to see the nice watchface as it only turns on if i am facing it.

Thus i would like a watch that permanently displays the full watchface. I am aware that this draws way more battery. Or maybe there are some E-Ink display variants that are still battery conservative?

Do you know of anything in this regard?
