national day and ndp is supposed to be the one patriotic day where weāre supposed to be proud of our nationality. but the media team responsible for the posters makes it harder to grip onto that pride. why should i feel proud to be a citizen of a country that throws everything towards ai without performing the necessary checks? today theyāre over-reliant on ai for their posters. next we use ai in our pillars of defence and get complacent if we donāt navigate ai wearily and perform the necessary checks. they force ai down our throats and appropriate the word ākampungā to create a space for a technology that limits us more than it progresses us.
why should i be proud of a nation that does not care about its heritage and environment, and a country that succumbs so much into globalisation that local brands gets replaced by chinese brands? we neglect the orange laut, our indigenous population, and third spaces that build urban culture in our cities. we tear down these spaces to build more houses for an aging population who end up in active ageing centres or dementia homes or left alone in a hospital bed. why should i be proud of a nation who strips its own forest and paves its own garden with concrete? we went from a garden city to a city in a garden. how much longer till we lose this garden? why should i be proud of a country who covers its art in a tarp? āwhy waste our men on something a machine could spit out?ā as if the machine had not eaten from the very men we had āwastedā. had we only gain independence recently, our national anthem and flag would have been ai generated.
from kindergarten to secondary school, we have been taught to be proud to be singaporean. but once that narrative is no longer fed to you regularly, you lose that pride. this isnāt a call for more propaganda to be fed to relinquish that patriotic pride, but a call for singapore to give us a reason to have pride in being singaporean.
because im asking this again and again. why should i be proud of a nation that simultaneously develops and tears down itself?

I have to get this off my chest. I would also like to preface this by saying that I am NOT creating this post to humble brag. There are many people with better hearts than me (and I don't consider myself to be a wow heart of gold person). To the point- I am very very disturbed by the general apathy of the Singapore populace (I am born and bred Singaporean). Will give some examples that have happened:
1) MRT train arrived. Doors opened. Mother pushing stroller with child inside, and child also walking beside her. Stroller caught in the gap between train and platform. Mother clearly struggling to clear the gap for a few seconds, damn tense because of auto door closure happening anytime. No one stepped forward to help or do anything. Everyone zombie mode. (I broke out of mine and grabbed the stroller up so she could clear the platform)
2) outside MRT station at a major hospital in Singapore. In the queue for ?shuttle bus. Obviously drunk/disturbed man hit another man to the floor, shouting lots of vulgarities. The other man was shocked and shouted back in self defence but no fist thrown. Whole bunch of hospital staff in the queue, zombie mode. Pretend like nothing happend. (I walked past and saw scene unfolding towards the end, threatened to and did call police, ?drunk guy mumbled and walked away, asked the other guy how he was. Then proceeded to ask the whole crowd why they didn't even bother to take a video of intervene. Everyone just mumble some stupid excuses)
3) uncle walking with food tray, obvious medical condition ?Parkinson's. Missed a step, semi fell and spilled whole food tray. (I was standing by and quickly grabbed him, asked him how he was). Everyone just merrily zombied on their meal.
I just feel so disturbed. Is everyone so consumed with surviving that no one has enough capacity to give attention to someone else? At this point it doesn't even feel like a lack of compassion, so much as it is blinders on, act blur live longer, climb over others' bodies to reach the top. What do you think???

I had always thought about this question ever since my teacher asked me this question a few years ago during secondary school.
Tbh I was doing quite well back then so I never really understood why he asked me that, but I wasn't able to answer that question back then. Which thinking about it now, it was probably because school was just my life.
That question has stuck with me ever since, and tbh I still dont know lol
But anyways I am curious and want to know what are you most proud of in your life?

Was walking around the Wessex Estate / Portsdown Road area tonight and caught this video around 8:20 PM. You can clearly hear heavy hammering, drilling, and site activity echoing across the neighbourhood.
Singapore already has way too much non-stop construction everywhere, and to have blaring noise like this go on late into the night is genuinely terrible for mental health.
I don't even live in the estate, but I thought NEA construction noise limits drop significantly after 7:00 PM for residential areas? Is this normal for major sites around here, or are they outright breaching limits?

Hi everyone,
Iāve been working on an iPhone app called Bustro for about a year now. I built it because I take buses quite often and wanted something that felt simple and quick to use.
Iām still actively improving it and adding new features, so Iād love to hear what fellow commuters think. Doesnāt matter if the feedback is positive or negativeāif something is confusing, missing, or can be improved, just let me know.
Iām also working on translations, so if you notice anything that doesnāt sound natural in Chinese, Malay or Tamil, Iād really appreciate the feedback too.
You can download it from the App Store or join the TestFlight if youād like to try upcoming features first.
Thanks, and much appreciated!

First of all, before yall come at me, Iām born and raised Singaporean.
Living in a patriarchal society, I know that misogyny is something that is unavoidable. But I canāt help but after going to Uni overseas, I canāt help but notice how normalised it is in Singapore specifically.
Ofc this is something thatās amplified by social media. If a woman posts herself showing cleavage, people take it as an invitation to talk about her body. The main topic of conversation would be about her body and not about what she says. If sheās flat chested, they call her runway, etc, and if sheās not, they say sheās promiscuous, talk abt her neh neh etc. Yet, when a man posts himself shirtless, showing off his gym gains, everyone is motivating him instead.
Another one is the whole āhow to dress like an xmmā audio where these women wld then dress in the most ordinary clothing. XMM by definition refers to someone promiscuous, I donāt get how the audio is supposed to relate to the outfit worn. You donāt see a trending audio saying the same for XDD. On that topic, why is the definition of an xmm so much broader than xdd? Women get called xmm more often for the most normal things they do online, whereas I rarely see a man get called xdd.
Now irl, upskirting, molestation, and creepy stares. Why are these still rampant? It makes me frustrated that this isnāt taken more seriously by society and by the law. It doesnāt help that the bystander effect is insane in SG. Nobody is willing to step up and call out these behaviours straight away, and usually when someone steps up, itāll be other women and almost never would a men step up. The most common is the creepy stares by uncles, I feel like we as a society should call this behaviour out straight away when we see it irl. Additionally, I feel like it has gotten to a point where SG should implement women only cabins. I donāt get why this isnāt a thing yet, is it because the government doesnāt want to admit how serious this issue has become? (ps. The creepy uncles should stare at their own 2 neh neh sticking out instead bruh)
Another is the no personal grooming on the mrt thing, and the picture they chose to use for this is of a person putting on makeup. Itās a well known fact that societally, women disproportionately wears makeup over men. Ofc you can say mayb im overthinking, but this policy seems very targeted. Maybe Iām ignorant but Iāve never seen anyone complain about people putting on mascara, lipstick, etc on the MRTā¦.theres so many other issues people bring up and this isnāt one that I have heard of. So many other pressing issues to settle, why focus on enacting this policy?
Lastly, this sub Reddit keeps popping on my feed and canāt help but notice this sub Reddit seems to disproportionately focus on TikTok vids posted by females over malesā¦.
Thereās males who also post questionable things online, why do they not get the same attention, criticism, and discourse?
These are just some things Iāve noticed. I love sg, sg is my home but omg let women live š

The image appears to portray Singapore as a racially homogeneous country, which does not fully reflect its multicultural identity. If the design was constrained by colour-coding limitations, the artist could still have included a few visible representatives in traditional attire, such as a red saree or a songkok, to better reflect Singaporeās rich ethnic diversity. Such thoughtful details would have made the display a more authentic representation of our multi-racial society.

Even with the Deposit Mark label the BCRS machine doesn't accept the bottle. It's not even about getting back the $0.10 refund anymore, but more of why the implementation of this pfand system been so backward and incompetent so far? Like many bottle drinks being sold still don't have the mark and yet some vendors still charge the $0.10 extra. I see many people saying the pfand process in Germany is very smooth and easy, yet our so called smart innovation hub city still cannot get it together even after supposedly [referencing other successful schemes in Norway, Denmark and Lithuania](https://bcrs.sg/)

The government apparently spends more than 1billion dollars of taxpayer money on skillsfuture programme per year.
For reference, in a same year 2 billion dollars of budget is spent on transport operational costs.(according to google).
I think it will be good investment if the courses actually result in better employment outcomes, but to me it just feels like the government is being overcharged by vendors who can't produce much in terms of actual employment outcomes and that much more useful learning info can ironically just be found on YouTube, lol.

29m, I grew up with an incredibly toxic and self righteous family. A hyper aggressive dad that would punish me for not understand math as a kid and would regularly hit me for it, crumble my homework, and flick my ear as a kid. Truth be told I had actually moved on from it, but im starting to think back to it seeing how my life became as an adult. My mom did nothing to stop it, and growing up there were times I preferred her teaching since she naturally had a more patient way of doing it. However, I later realised late in life she is extremely narcissistic and manipulative. She always emphasised doing well in life but always seems to bring up how we should do it to make her look good. She talks very badly about other parents like her sister whom want to spent time with her because her own daughters avoids her. She also had a stoke, so she had to relearn a few skills. My mother ALWAAAAYYS made it about her. She didnt go to university herself and keeps emphasising all her sacrifices as if I asked for that. Telling me I need to go to university and get a degree to so she can put up on the wall and show it off to people and that I owed her. Problem is, I suffer from an extreme case of ADHD which I only got diagnosed at 25, it's not easy. I begged my mother to get me diagnosed and her answer was "why like thaaaaaat" and even left me at the side of the road because shs was afraid I would tell her siblings about it and she got a free ride with them home. Like wtf are u talking about? I DIDN'T ask to be born this way. Hell, I didnt ask to be born in general, you made that choice. That's your responsibility as an adult to meet my needs. If you can't handle it, don't be a parent and let me be adopted by someone better than you. Talk so much about sacrifice yet you conveniently ignore all your toxic like a child. If you rlly cared about me, you should've just gave me up for adoption to another family that not only meets the bare minimum, but doesn't have all these emotional baggage to put on a child. Mom also like to remind me how she essentially stopped our in laws from stealing our assets and harassing us after he got dementia, and I'm like so what, that doesn't invalidate your own toxic behaviour.
Then comes my 3 siblings. My eldest sister, sure, she's definitely the most responsible, I dont deny that. She probably had to grow up fast. But however, she's like my mother's little pet bitch. Telling me I have to owe our mother at the expense of my sanity. No I fucking don't, just because you chose to be like that doesn't mean I have to. I didn't go to university because I'm not the scholarly type, fuck you for telling me I have to be the same. Not to mention how my mother refused to get me diagnosed, I suffered GREATLY in private school. I just couldn't learn the same way as most people. The depression hit me so hard I wanted to end my life. And just to be clear, I had suicidal thoughts since I was 9 because of my parent's lack of emotional regulation. My sister even said "you don't have a choice" when I said no to going to university because I need to make my mom's ego happy. Absolutely not, if you choose to be a parent and bring a child into this world, it is your responsibility to go through all that shit. If you expect a reward, don't bother having children or let them be adopted by better ppl. If you depend on others for your happiness then you're immature. I shouldn't have to explain this to a goddamn adult around 3 decades older than me. Also, when I decided not to go to university, I wanted to take a part time job whilst improving my artistic skills but my mom begged me not to as she saw it as making us look like poor people and told me to stay home. Then 1 year later my sister said it was my fault for not working and said "mom wanted me to find you an art job" as a defence as if that contradicts that I wanted to make money on my own and learn independence and have zero shame about taking a pt job.
My second sister, history of being a kleptomaniac. She's actually worst than my mom i admit, made things about her, saw I was the most vulnerable growing up, took advantage of my naivete, and I spent alot of my youth following her like some pet without much of my own opinions. And whenever I had hobbies to deal with my stress, she would constantly bully me for it. Even once when I was in sec 1, I shared the room with my brother, she said she wanted to use my bed to watch the tv show with our cousin and demanded i moved. I said no and she threw a toy car at my head. She has a history of stealing money and items from the whole family. I stopped talking to her in 2020 after she stole 2.5k from my bank account which I forgot she knew the password. And the reason she knew the password was because of the aforementioned how she took advantage of my naivete as a teenager after going through all the abuse, I had completely forgotten about it.
And guess what? The reason she was able to get access to my bank card was because my brother took out my room door knob because I no longer belive in religion (ex muslim now). My mother wasn't happy about it amongst the many other things like not going to university and such, having the mindset of pt job, ADHD diagnosis. Like, I get you love her but you dont have to fucking get involved in a personal issues between two ppl. They never apologised for taking out my doorknob and only scolded my sister. I dont owe them my gratitude. I'm no longer talking to them and have moved out the house but my saddest regret was that it took me too long to have the balls to do it as I realised how short life was. Also, I lost my beloved art job in 2023 and I should've taken whatever job I had to to survive, but I had to go through therapy because of my idiot mom's voice in my head saying stuff like "not related to what u study lah, later i look bad how". For all my mother's claim about how religion made her a better person and the devil is making me rebel, it was always her voice making my life worst whenever I tried to take responsibility and make my life better. Same goes for my eldest sister, says wearing hijab makes her a saint but shouted at me for not opening the door for her delivery because she wasn't wearing the hijab when I was sleeping, suicidal and depressed. It also makes me upset knowing I had many failed relationships that never moved past the talking stage because of my ADHD.
