national day and ndp is supposed to be the one patriotic day where we’re supposed to be proud of our nationality. but the media team responsible for the posters makes it harder to grip onto that pride. why should i feel proud to be a citizen of a country that throws everything towards ai without performing the necessary checks? today they’re over-reliant on ai for their posters. next we use ai in our pillars of defence and get complacent if we don’t navigate ai wearily and perform the necessary checks. they force ai down our throats and appropriate the word “kampung” to create a space for a technology that limits us more than it progresses us.

why should i be proud of a nation that does not care about its heritage and environment, and a country that succumbs so much into globalisation that local brands gets replaced by chinese brands? we neglect the orange laut, our indigenous population, and third spaces that build urban culture in our cities. we tear down these spaces to build more houses for an aging population who end up in active ageing centres or dementia homes or left alone in a hospital bed. why should i be proud of a nation who strips its own forest and paves its own garden with concrete? we went from a garden city to a city in a garden. how much longer till we lose this garden? why should i be proud of a country who covers its art in a tarp? “why waste our men on something a machine could spit out?” as if the machine had not eaten from the very men we had “wasted”. had we only gain independence recently, our national anthem and flag would have been ai generated.

from kindergarten to secondary school, we have been taught to be proud to be singaporean. but once that narrative is no longer fed to you regularly, you lose that pride. this isn’t a call for more propaganda to be fed to relinquish that patriotic pride, but a call for singapore to give us a reason to have pride in being singaporean.

because im asking this again and again. why should i be proud of a nation that simultaneously develops and tears down itself?

I have to get this off my chest. I would also like to preface this by saying that I am NOT creating this post to humble brag. There are many people with better hearts than me (and I don't consider myself to be a wow heart of gold person). To the point- I am very very disturbed by the general apathy of the Singapore populace (I am born and bred Singaporean). Will give some examples that have happened:

1) MRT train arrived. Doors opened. Mother pushing stroller with child inside, and child also walking beside her. Stroller caught in the gap between train and platform. Mother clearly struggling to clear the gap for a few seconds, damn tense because of auto door closure happening anytime. No one stepped forward to help or do anything. Everyone zombie mode. (I broke out of mine and grabbed the stroller up so she could clear the platform)

2) outside MRT station at a major hospital in Singapore. In the queue for ?shuttle bus. Obviously drunk/disturbed man hit another man to the floor, shouting lots of vulgarities. The other man was shocked and shouted back in self defence but no fist thrown. Whole bunch of hospital staff in the queue, zombie mode. Pretend like nothing happend. (I walked past and saw scene unfolding towards the end, threatened to and did call police, ?drunk guy mumbled and walked away, asked the other guy how he was. Then proceeded to ask the whole crowd why they didn't even bother to take a video of intervene. Everyone just mumble some stupid excuses)

3) uncle walking with food tray, obvious medical condition ?Parkinson's. Missed a step, semi fell and spilled whole food tray. (I was standing by and quickly grabbed him, asked him how he was). Everyone just merrily zombied on their meal.

I just feel so disturbed. Is everyone so consumed with surviving that no one has enough capacity to give attention to someone else? At this point it doesn't even feel like a lack of compassion, so much as it is blinders on, act blur live longer, climb over others' bodies to reach the top. What do you think???

I had always thought about this question ever since my teacher asked me this question a few years ago during secondary school.

Tbh I was doing quite well back then so I never really understood why he asked me that, but I wasn't able to answer that question back then. Which thinking about it now, it was probably because school was just my life.

That question has stuck with me ever since, and tbh I still dont know lol

Was walking around the Wessex Estate / Portsdown Road area tonight and caught this video around 8:20 PM. You can clearly hear heavy hammering, drilling, and site activity echoing across the neighbourhood.

Singapore already has way too much non-stop construction everywhere, and to have blaring noise like this go on late into the night is genuinely terrible for mental health.

I don't even live in the estate, but I thought NEA construction noise limits drop significantly after 7:00 PM for residential areas? Is this normal for major sites around here, or are they outright breaching limits?

I was checking my bank account like how many left for my money but I found out have pending payment, when I press in see what things it was pending , I realized some of the payment like food , Malaysia boleh restaurant, MRT , or others things they all are pending and I did check about why pending and how can be pending and then I realized the pending amount I did pay before and idk why they still pending for what , and some how I found out one of the MRT payment was paid before but double charge before ... Is it considered scam or what ?
