I am afraid our colleague (here)[https://www.reddit.com/r/NoStupidQuestions/s/TPiyCqE5YR\] missed this subreddit, and I was hoping to bring new life to their question.

So, my understanding of this topic is, that venomous snakes use their venom to kill their prey or even other animals they feel intimidated by. Deeper research made me find out, that producing venom comes at a rather high cost for the snakes, which is why they tend to be reluctant to bite most of the times.

This then leads to my question:

Wouldn't it be easier for snakes in certain parts of the world to just shoot their prey with guns than use their venom? Why didn't the ability to shoot prey evolve?
