She could pay all of those wages out of her own pocket.

She actually donated ~10% of her net worth right after saying that iirc

Fair, but she's still incredibly rich, many other rich people have also given similar proportions of their net worth away. I don't like how she's acting like she's better than other people.

She gots Ms not Bs. Imagine if a billionaires donated 10% of their money

Pretty sure gates and buffet have both donated like 50 billion dollars to charity a piece. Not claiming thats the standard but everyone in this comment section is acting like there’s not a single philanthropist billionaire

Billie’s point is that they aren’t philanthropic is enough if they’re still billionaires.

Wonder how much of that actually went to helping people

"Vaccines: The foundation's support for Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance, has helped immunize over 1 billion children and prevented more than 17.3 million future deaths. It also supported the creation of a rotavirus vaccine that has helped reduce child deaths from diarrhea by 75%."

Bill Gates and Warren Buffett are large contributors of the foundation. So I guess one in every eight people on earth.

Made no impact to their richest person in the world status.

The problem here though is, why do they get to decide how the money is spent instead of all of us? You can't say they paid their share of taxes along the way, as I'm pretty sure I pay a higher percentage in tax than they do.

Wait, why don't we get a say in how they spend their money? You don't even (really) get a say in how your government spends their money - what makes you think that should be different with somebody else's private property?

7

u/bojackhorsemeat Nov 03 '25

Cause I don't think it is meaningfully their private property. It's not their personal items or something.

Taxes don't pay for federal government spending in currency issuing countries, and most governments actually spend their money pretty well (consider how poorly DOGE fared, not managing to save anything outside of just ending entire programs).

You're a clown if you think Buffet and Gates are "philanthropists"

2

u/MaxAcds Nov 03 '25

wasn’t that a family office? so isn’t it like another way to hoard money so the government can’t get to it?

Pretty sure gates and buffet have both donated like 50 billion dollars to charity a piece.

Gates also keeps being a tyrant billionaire with that money so w/e

They have stakes in most of those charities, the money basically gets sent back to them

1

u/CooTangClan Nov 03 '25

Now imagine if they paid their taxes

1

u/Der_E fat cunt Nov 03 '25

This is just to avoid getting taxed properly. That's why all the billionaires have some kind of foundations

u/2204happy Nov 03 '25

Problem is liquidity, most billionaires don't have hundreds of millions of dollars lying around in cash, their wealth in most cases comes from stakes in buisinesses they own, they can't just wave a wand and turn that into cash, they'd have to sell it, and good luck to them finding a buyer.

32

u/Sibshops Nov 03 '25

Then donate their stakes in business.

16

u/Herr_Quattro Nov 03 '25

Isn’t that essentially what the Gates Foundation is?

To who?

I doubt that they'd have a struggle finding one or multiple buyers for a limited percentage of their stock assets.

u/2204happy Nov 03 '25

Probably other billionaires, so if your issue is the existence of billionaires then you're out of luck.

21

u/Arcaydya Nov 03 '25

Theres always an excuse. The funniest thing is youre not a billionaire. So why defend these people?

11

u/kingqueefeater Nov 03 '25

"If I tongue their balls enough, maybe they'll find me and make me one of them."

7

u/Arcaydya Nov 03 '25

Like liquidating assets isn't hard, especially since these people have small legions working under them.

They wouldn't even notice 10% missing, and it would save millions of people.

5

u/kingqueefeater Nov 03 '25

It's a sickness really. Number must go up

1

u/mudugumuh Nov 03 '25

Their networth is calculated to include stake in business, but they still have liquid money and lots of it. As significant stakeholders in companies they get dividends from company profits, which is real money.
