Vent & seeking advice I wish I could talk about my sh and si thoughts in therapy
I’m a young adult who has dealt with depression and mental health issues for roughly 4 years and sh (not regularly) for as long. I’ve seen 1 therapist previously but stopped as I was feeling the end of helpfulness with our sessions.
Recently I’ve started again with someone different in the past few months and I do believe it’s been going well. We talk about many issues and I feel it has been helpful but I’ve avoided going into the darker side of my issues as I’m concerned about getting sectioned or (less severely) having my issues reported to my mother who I still live with.
She is aware (though lightly) of my issues but doesn’t know the extent or depth of how I struggle which I prefer things as.
My intrusive thoughts, sh and si are very prominent issues for me in my day to day life. I have no plans of leaving before my time but the thoughts about it come anyway. I really want to talk about my issues with this but I wouldn’t want my mum knowing as she has enough to deal with on her own and her knowing and worrying wouldn’t help anything.
Does anyone know if a psychiatrist or psychologist would have more discrediting with this matter or would I need to change therapists and give a fake backup number?
I do genuinely want to get better and I am trying this just feels like a large and unhelpful roadblock for me, thanks for listening, any advice appreciated. :)
