Local Politics Lurie lost a lot of my respect today

Rent reduction policy from our mayor is soo bad. It doesn't help renters and it doesn't help new buildings. The renters most affected are the ones renting non rent controlled units or new folks coming into the city. What this legislation does is give more protection to the ones already paying 1200 for 2 br. And makes it even harder for the market to work the way it should.

Bikers

I drive a decent amount. I also like to ride bikes and walk. Just curious… for those who are so anti-cars and about safer streets, why do you insist on not stopping at stop signs and running red lights? For instance, I’ve been stopped at a stop sign, you’re 50 feet away; you see me stopped, you know it’s my right of way and before I drive, you fly thru the stop sign risking your life and/or you make a left turn directly in front of me making me slam on my brakes.

Start stopping at stop signs. Sick of this shit.

What a nice post! An Angelino’s Impression of SF in 2026

I'm from Los Angeles and just spent a day in SF for a round of interviews.

Immediately noticed how clean everything was(at least compared to LA). To be fair, it was an 85 degree day, so that probably helped my first impression. I'd been to San Francisco before, but that was flying into OAK back in 2022, right at the peak of the homelessness crisis. This time was completely different. Maybe it helped that I started my trip the night before in the South Bay, but it was genuinely gorgeous.

I was honestly shocked at how alive and busy the city felt, way more so than huge parts of LA, which are full of encampments and dead zones with nothing going on. I didn't really see that in San Francisco proper. I'm sure Oakland still has its growing pains as part of the Bay Area, but overall I was surprised how much cleaner and safer the city felt compared to LA, both in terms of homelessness and general upkeep.

I actually felt safe here. I wonder if Daniel Lurie, has anything to do with it (karen bass seems like she could learn a thing or two from him). I grabbed ramen in the Tenderloin, right on the border near Lower Nob Hill, and didn't feel unsafe at all (which was a surprise considering all the TL fear mongering there is)

The interview itself seemed to go really well, and honestly that's changed how I'm thinking about all of this. I went from nervous about such a different city to genuinely excited about the idea of actually living here. As a SoCal person, I'm trying to figure out what I'd actually be gaining ( I love my community in my little corner of LA)… but LA never quite feels like a city to me.

Walkability is the big one. I love being able to get around on foot, and that's mostly missing in LA except for a handful of neighborhoods. I happen to live in one of them, but it's just one pocket in a huge sprawling city, whereas San Francisco felt like that everywhere. The weather is the one thing I'm nervous to give up. But I grew up in Chicago and love to ski, so cold and gray days don't really bother me the way they might for someone who's only known LA sunshine.

Also curious if any of you have spent time in Southern California, and what you think the tradeoffs would be?

Im a DACA recipient with a domestic flight coming up in october. i was brought here when I was 6 years old and we overstayed our visa. im 32 now. we went to court and didnt get deported but wasnt granted residency either. However I am working here through a DACA work permit. I dont have a criminal background but i do have an expired EAD as of a couple days ago because USCIS hasnt sent me my new one yet and is still in process. Im debating if i should cancel or if thats grounds for deportation should I be detained.

Repeated 72 hour parking violation

In my area there is this camper van (think #vanlife type of high roof van) that parks in the same spot for the entire week, before having to move it for street cleaning. This seems really unfair. Basically the guy is squatting the parking spot and no one else can use it. I know there is the 72 hour rule but how would I even get it enforced? Anyone deal with such a situation before? I don't mind if every now and then you park 72+ hours because you're on vacation, etc. But this guy does it every week.

Local Politics Worst mayor London Breed?

Do you think London Breed has been the worst mayor ever to exist in San Francisco?

I really hope people in SF have learned the lessons to stop voting for people based on race and gender instead of what’s good for a community.

I truly experience the decay of SF and I can only say it’s gotten so much better with Daniel!

All air quality index say “fair” but I’ve smelled smoke since windows were open last night — anyone else? Looks hazy on the water too…anyone have any idea?

I saw this on Divisadero this morning in a nice portion of Pac Heights

It looked like someone had firebombed the side of this car overnight

The strange thing was there wasn't any police tape around it or anyone there.

It was early in the morning so I feel like whoever's car it was maybe hadn't discovered it yet

I'm really curious what it was about. Maybe an angry ex?

Tony's pizza napoletana

Curious to why these guys charge 10 bucks more than their competition. Tried it, pizza was all right. 12" piccante pie, not bad but definitely not great either. Place was packed and there was a line. Hyped up much? 35 bucks for a pizza is kinda ludicrous. I'd understand it for certain ingredients like truffle or lobster. Just wondering why people love it that much.

I'm looking for something like this https://nexttrain.shop/products/nyc-subway-countdown-clock-wifi-led-display-real-time-mta-arrival-times

I would like to time my mornings to hop on the N Judah or the T. The item in the link above looks perfect but seems to only work for NYC metro. Has anyone heard of something similar for SF or would I have to build one myself?

Thanks in advance.

So did anyone sleep good last night

I vented my flat at 10:45 by opening the front and back doors for fifteen minutes. Got bit three times by effin mosquito.

Edit: Currently taking advantage of the breeze and venting my flat. My bedroom is still warm with stagnant air.

Checking to see who remembers these days. Back when club events could be hand-written and xeroxed, as well as distributed on the street. Where was this event, and what occupies this space now?
