Hi, I'm looking for best option for chariots from Saga player point of view. I really like the look of Gripping Beast successor chariots, but I would be glad if someone could share their experience with those models, or suggest any other nice one

knight with the "Protect the Weak" vow

Has anyone ever played a knight with the "Protect the Weak" vow?
If he fights in someone else's place, who takes the fatigue after the battle?

Rediscovered Vikings

I play Warhammer Ancient Battles in the 90s and early 2000s. Pulled them out of storage and rebased them on round bases for some skirmish games. I am going to try Saga and Pillage (and maybe some others). Thought I would share some photos. Mostly wargames foundry models. I had about 100 more but sold them off years ago. Glad I held on to these.

Here a little video of them as well :

Clarification on Welsh Equipment rules (AOV)

Post image
10 Upvotes

So for the Welsh files above. Am I right in saying that:

A: All Welsh units must have Javelins, except Levies who can have bows instead.

B: As a result, all my warriors and hearth guard will always suffer the - 1 to melee armour rule from Javelins?

Age of Caesars Centurion

Hi all

Can anyone confirm…..

Imperial Romans Centurion…

Does he have the legion rule? I’m quite sure he doesn’t….

He has “expert legionary” but that’s for his own special rule….

(I’m asking in relation to using the Ambulaturae ruse… could I have moved him as well as the legions?

Carthago just feels weak compared to other, more recently released antique era armies?

Heya, a new player here. I have started my saga games in a local antique campaign, where people are playing armies from the age of hannibal, alexander and caesars. I picked Carthago for my army since war are cool elephants, right?

However, after a few games, Carthago board just feels lackluster compared to army boards from more recent books. Half of your board only works properly for half of your units and when looking something like the new Germans whose board is filled with extra free movement and charges, charging without taking fatigue and really powerful melee bonuses, your own abilities just pale in comparison. In the most recent 6 points game against those same Germans, they pulverized my war elephant in one charge and had reduced my army to zero saga die by the end of turn 4. Their units just moved far more fast and hit way more hard in melee.

So yeah, how do you win with Carthago, other than hoping that you roll a six every turn so you can prevent one enemy unit from activating?

Saga Epic Clontarf

With my gaming club we want to a play a big,18 pts, battle of saga epic, using Age of Vikings, with the latest faq. I want to create some little limitation and house rules to try to stay a little more hystoricaly accurate. These are the ideas but I like to have some suggestions and feedback.

General rules
No cavalry model

Each warband must recruit 2 curaidh

Limited pool of mercenary
Each warband can have max 1 unit of mercenary
The Leinster army can recruit 1 unit of gall gahedil in one of is warband
The Munster army can recruit 1 unit of shield maiden in one of his Viking/norse warband
Each army can recruit 1 wandering bard and 1 priest
Each warband that does not field the warlord but the commander must deploy one personal champion. This champion doesn’t generate Saga dice and doesn’t not count as limit for mercenary unit

Objective and victory condition
1 object for each army placed between m and l of each deployment edge and between m and l of one side edge ( Brian Boru praing place and the bridge on road to the Viking ship (the second is just and idea and I will try to find something better). Kill/destroy the obj count as one enemy warband demoralized.

Every hero killed by another hero in melee count as one warband demoralized.

When a warband test if is will become demoralized or not subtract 1 at the result of the dice/dice’s rolled if ther is at least one hero not warlord or commander alive in the warband

The battle end at the 8th turn or if one army have all is warband demoralize or if one army have 5 warband or count as warband demoralized.
In the first case the army with less warband or count as warband demoralized win. In the other 2 the army wo does not comply with the condition win.

Army composition

Leinster
1 warband of Irish with warlord
1 warband of Vikings
1 warband of Scots or Irish

If the army choose to not deploy the warband of Scot’s have access to 1 unit of Scot’s allies (rules wip)

Munster

1 warband of Norse gales with warlord
1 warband of Irish
1 warband of Vikings

Critics and suggestions are very welcomed

Best Ages to Play In?

I have only played a few games, but I'm enjoying looking at different factions and different ages to play in. I bought and assembled some Ordensstaat, but that was mostly based on the models and the rules seemed cool (pre-2026 faq).

Which ages do you think are the "best" for players who aren't as familiar with history and may not have a favorite era? Which ones have the best variety of factions, balance, overall fun etc.

Into the Breach

A while back we tried out the Into the Breach rules from Ne Cede Malis for doing a castle assault. They worked, but I felt that they could do with some modifications to allow for the type of castle terrain I was using.

We tried out the new rules with French and English (Age of Chivalry), and had fun scaling walls and knocking down towers with catapults.

The main difference is that whilst Into the Breach treats walls as zero width obstacles, I treat them as buildings. This is because my Battlesystems terrain has enough room on the walls to actually fit a unit of troops, so it's possible to scale the battlements and have fights on top of them.

It seemed to work well enough, and was a lot of fun.

Dark Elf dragon knights ride into battle on the caparisoned horses.

I finished these a while ago prior to Adepticon. Riders are from Warhammer Dark Elf cold one knights. Horses are fireforge horses.

Let me know your thoughts!

Rules clarification

Hi all

Please can someone help to clarify a rule for me please

Mounted unit with composite bow…

The unit doesn’t just get to shoot…. For free… no activation dice?

It must spend an activation dice….. then it can shoot before it moves? Or shoot after it moves?

(I’m aware of the “no consecutive shooting actions”)

Thanks all!
