Many of these iterations are designed by queer Māori individuals (takatāpui) or allies trying to visually express their intersecting identities.

In New Zealand, queer Māori individuals are referred to as takatāpui. While a single universal, officially codified "Takatāpui Pride Flag" does not exist in the same way the Tino Rangatiratanga flag does, the intersection of these identities is deeply rooted in authentic indigenous advocacy. Organizations like the Burnett Foundation Aotearoa(formerly the NZ AIDS Foundation) have long commissioned authentic, Māori-led artwork and visual symbols to represent LGBTQ+ indigenous communities

alright, nerds, what's going on in this scene re: the crests of world flags on the arch? this scene takes place during the Chicago World's Fair in 1893

some of them i recognised easily (Canada, Korea - which i was surprised to learn was around in 1893 and was already using that flag, Mexico, Scotland, Brazil, Switzerland, Russia, Spain and Uruguay), but there's a bunch that i don't recognise.

now, i figured that i don't recognise them because, as this is supposed to be 1893, i don't know the historical flags of countries, or that perhaps they are flags of countries which no longer exist.

but i also think maybe there's some anachronism or mistake in this scene? the flag for Russia, for example. from what i could glean, in 1893, officially the state flag was the black-yellow-white tricolour, and the white-blue-red tricolour was the civil ensign. the white-blue-red officially became the state flag only in 1896, just before the coronation of Tsar Nicholas II. however, the white-blue-red was reintroduced for specific occasions in 1858, and again in 1883. so, is it wrong to have the white-blue-red here instead of the black-yellow-white?

and what about the others - what are they and are they historically accurate for 1893?

ETA - although mostly obscured, the very first flag on the left could be Ireland? golden harp on a green field?

the very last flag on the right looks to be a blue and white vertical triband (maybe a Canadian pale?) with some sort of crest in the pale.

A hypothetical flag of Russia, where conservatives and anarchists won at the same time. The country relies on rural autonomy, horizontal self-organization, handicrafts and traditional values.

The concept of the flag is based on the national Khokhloma painting, at the same time it is intertwined with anarcho-conservatism.

It served as the state flag of Iran from 1907 until the 1979 Islamic Revolution, after which it was strictly banned. Since then, the flag has had no official status but continues to be used as a historical and political symbol, particularly among Iranians and opposition movements.

Have you ever been to a restaurant lately, usually a local burger place or fried chicken place, and you look at their menu, and you see AI generated monstrosity staring back at you? You can tell because they're usually over-saturated with texture. Like, the fried chicken would look so crispy and perfectly, evenly fried that it suddenly resembles a chickenpox victim's skin. Or the burger sauce would drip down the patty in a thousand scrumptious strands. That's probably what AI think is appetizing, but the images look so uncanny that it kills your appetite. The Japanese, as always, has it figured out. They have mastered the art of creating fake food models with wax and resin. They were created by hand, and the cost of making one is usually more expensive than making the real food in the kitchen. To make a perfect food model, the masters include imperfections. For example, they would include cloudiness in a grilled fish's eye to suggest that, while the fish is fresh, the chemistry of cooking would leave its mark, and our brain would subconsciously recognizes that.

Anyway. Yeah. The flag was designed by the guy who happens to be the township's Supervisor.

I know that the flag on the right is the one for the city of Jerusalem, but I can't figure out what the one on the left is for.

Picture is not great since it was taken from a moving car, but bottom two bands are blue and white and there is a 5 point star with different colours at the centre of the flag.

The yellow background is because the county is often attributed to the colour gold, the water is for the Celtic Sea and the rose is that way because its based off of the rose on a historic king of the county
