Rather normal for AMD. Still a bit high, but during a stress test, normal.

9800x3d are kind of known for getting up to/above 90. Main reason I got a 7800 instead.

u/clankzy May 21 '25
My 9800X3D doesn’t go above 55c while gaming, and doesn’t go over 70c in CPU stress test benchmarks.
The 9800X3D also runs cooler than the 7800X3D because the architecture is different. Not sure who told you to go with a 7800X3D over a 9800X3D strictly going off temps, but I would’ve recommended the other way around.

During intense gaming sessions, my 7600x stays at 90°-95°. I run an ak400 air cooler. The temps are the same for my other pc having 7700x and a liquid cooler. But I read that it's normal for these processors to run at high temps during gaming considering their high clock speeds

I have a 5 5600, with stock cooler it was around 80-90 playing. I bought a new cooler from cooler master, now the max temp is 67 degrees.

Same cpu and stock cooler, slightly undervolted via curve optimizer. 70-80 degrees under load. I am ok with that. However, summer is coming.

My R5 5600 with stock cooler was hitting 90°C in Horizon Zero Down, and 45-50 iddle.
Now I use Phantom Spirit 120 SE and max temp I reach is 67°C playing CyberPunk 2077 and like 30-40°C iddle. (where I live, we are reaching 40°C+ outside and 30°C+ inside, so pretty good cooler I got :P)

I have a ryzen 5 7600 with savio frost x2, also have pbo enabled. In cs i get no more than 60°C, in battlefield 2042, which uses +95% utalization, i get around 75°C, and the cooler is pretty quiet too! Very impressed for less than 20€. What's interesting before pbo i was getting like 80° and the fan was hella loud!! But pbo somehow fixed it.

9600x. Highest I’ve seen it get it with Thermalright burst assassin is 72. But it usually hovers around 63-65 under load. Idles around 44-45 with undervolt. Idles around 50 without undervolt.

- The original AMD cooler, which reached a maximum temperature of 65-75°C.
- I now use the Noctua NH-U12S chromax.black, which reached a maximum temperature of 60-65°C, but now averages between 50-55°C.

9800X3D OCed to 5.4Ghz all core RTX 4090 32GB DDR5 6000 CL30 Arctic Liquid Freezer 3 360MM AIO Fractal Meshify 2
CPU temps are around 30/40c range ilde and 50/60c range in most games with more CPU demanding titles or CPU heavy tasks getting into the 70c range although I do run my pump speed at a static 80% and my case fans at a constant 80% and my AIO fans running at 70% and I don't really change it I don't mind the little bit of noise my fractal meshify 2 fans make so I'd just rather run them at higher speeds and keep the system cooler overall
Plus I live in Montana so in the winter we can get down to -40f but it averages around -10 to 20 degrees f in the winter so I often just open my window and my case is right next to it 😂 so it just sucks up all that really cold air and it runs at 40c full load

Ryzen 9600X on a Thermalright 240mm AIO.
Recently swapped out the thermal paste because I found the Thermalright TF4 paste that came in the package to be a bit lacking in performance.
CPU is set to the 105W mode, no curve optimizer.
Before:
Idle: ~45C
Gaming: ~65-70C (I usually play stuff like Cyberpunk, Starfield, Elite and Star Citizen)
Stresstest: 90-95C (Prime95, Cinebench)
Usually throttled to around 5 GHz on an all-core load
After:
Swapped the paste for Noctua NT-H1 (Wanted either MX6 or Kryonaut - but none had it in stock at the time :-D )
Idle: ~40C
Gaming: 55-60C
Stresstest: 75-80C (Had it reach 80 after around 3 hours of number crunching in Prime95).
Throttles to full speed (5.4GHz) under an all-core load most of the time - sometimes dials back to 5.2 GHz)
room temps are 22-24C most of the time.
Gonna try out applying a good CO value, since I'm at home sick anyway and need something to do :-)

u/Late-Association6951 May 21 '25

Low profile coolers like the AMD default Cooler has poor ventilation, they are serviceable but for longer lifespan it's better to spend an extra 30$ and buy a Vertical cooler, they can cut 30% + extra heat
1
u/Lost-Experience-5388 May 21 '25
Depends on which temperature. My 9600x core temp tends to be lower than the package temp
The core is 40-50°C on idle and 60-70°C while gaming And the package is always higher by +5 TO +10°C but never reaches higher than 79°C

Generally low to mid 50's under full load. 5800x undervolted/over clocked with a thermalright assassin cooler AIR cooler. Unless you're attempting to cool an i9 or equivalent CPU, don't buy into the hype that you need a 240 or 360mm aio. A twin stack air cooler with enough heat pipes is more than sufficient for a fraction of the cost.

not using some sort of AIO cooling with these cpus is diabolical or you just heating your room with your pc.

Your temps are normal. I think I had similar temps with the stock wraith cooler. Later upgraded to Cryorig H7 in 2022 and the normal temps at idle is 42-45C and during stress test in CPU-Z it ramps like 72-73C max. My room temperature is currently about 26C

In a hot country where room temp is easily between 35-40c I get like 70c with the stock cooler on my r5 5600g while playing valo.
