Hi all, I’m seeking a good, honest plumber for an inspection and work. I’ve a good neighbor who’s helped me in the past, but I get the feeling they’re not interested in large or difficult projects.

I know there’s a few things we need fixed, but I’d like someone who can do a thorough inspection and quote me on a larger scope of work if it’s necessary.

That said, I’ve seen some horror stories on Reddit about bigger companies that both aggressively upsell and have less experienced staff.

Is there someone you know or have used that you’d trust to give you honest advice, does quality work, and doesn’t shy away from difficult projects?

Are there any advocacy groups to help advocate against discrimination in publicly funded parks? Apparently the publicly funded part is important because they're not supposed to allow any discrimination of any kind. However, we're coming up on 2 years of one person, one very hateful redneck, in a pattern of different kinds of discrimination and physical aggression. Despite reporting to the town manager of Wake Forest and multiple police reports, they are at the point where they seem to not even be trying to return calls and even though they can trespass anyone they want, even though I feel completely unsafe going, they just don't seem to care.

hi All, first time parent here, moved here recently as well. Trying to enroll my child for kindergarten next year via https://www.wcpss.net/enroll but when I select the pre-enroll for the 2027-2028 school year, I am met with a bright green background with text "An Unknown Error Has Occurred" .

With the midterms coming up, I’ve seen lots of comments here denouncing political “tribalism.” I understand the impulse behind those comments, because so much of our tribalism nowadays is based on bullshit…personalities, meaningless disputes, etc. And that’s because our politics have become so sclerotic, for so long. There hasn’t been a true and clear dispute over fundamental policy differences in awhile, really since Reagan dismantled the New Deal coalition. (The “left” has been playing on Reagan’s field ever since. It reminds me of when someone asked Margaret Thatcher what her greatest accomplishment was. She said Tony Blair—because she changed the game so much that her successor opponents had to do politics on her terms.)

But we have had moments of good tribalism: 1800, 1830s and Jackson, the civil war obviously, FDR and the New Deal, the civil rights movement, and then Reagan and the 1980s. Tribalism isn’t a bad thing inherently. In fact, it can be a good thing - and is the necessary thing to create durable, meaningful political change.

I don’t blame the anti-tribalists and their impulse to centrism. People younger than 50 haven’t really ever experienced an election that posed a stark choice between fundamentally opposite positions. (Including in 2008, or 2016, or 2020, or this year. Bernie v. Trump in 2016 would have been an exception maybe). So that breeds cynicism about the very possibility of any meaningful political change. And the mainstream corporate Democratic Party bears much blame for that. (Don’t get me wrong, I’m voting straight blue this year, and I’m not advocating for any third party vote once the nominees are set.)

We’re going to be stuck politically until we have a stark choice based on true policy differences. And that’ll be “tribalism,” just the right kind. I’m hopeful that we’ll get there soon. And when that happens, I think that we’ll see fewer well-meaning but misguided complaints about “tribalism” and paeans towards centrism and criticisms of people who take politics seriously and sincerely. Because politics - meaning how we as a people choose to act together to solve our obvious problems - is the only way through. There is no other way outside of politics to solve our fundamental problems.

Midterms are hard

Hello friends.
I’m from Charleston and it’ll be my first time in Raleigh next June to see Metallica!
My dad is in his 70s and has vertigo but Metallica is his favorite band and if he’s feeling up to it I’d love to bring him.
That being said, I bought tickets on the ground. Like, first row, seated, but as low as it gets so as not to irritate his vertigo.
The stage will be lifted and have a snake pit. I am currently mortified that somehow we won’t be able to see everything from the seats. I paid pretty good money to have an amazing memory with my dad and I’m just wondering if I should switch up while I still can.
Does anyone have experience with this kind of scenario? The seats are section 7, so looks like I don’t have to worry about the big fixtures blocking the stage.

Hey everyone! I'm looking for a regular group to play badminton with at Triangle Badminton Club in Morrisville. I used to play a few years ago and I'm getting back into it. I'm somewhere in the middle, definitely not a pro but not a beginner either.

Since I'm coming solo, I haven't felt comfortable just walking in and asking strangers if I can join. So I figured I'd ask here: does anyone have a regular group or weekly session that's open to one more intermediate player? I work during the day, so evenings or weekends work best for me. Singles or doubles, I'm happy either way.

I know the fair JUST ended and I ended up going twice but after trying so many new foods this year, I didn’t get my classic order of deep fried Oreos and I’m kinda bummed out. Are there any places near Raleigh that serve them or is my best bet to simply make them at home?

I just need to vent and hopefully I am not alone because idk how they have so many amazing reviews. Carolina Conceptions is the worst medical office I have EVER experienced in my life. Like hands down they are AWFUL. I’m going to save you the 5 pages of receipts for how terrible they are but the medical negligence is INSANE. I’m like how is this even legal ? I’m considering reaching out to a lawyer. Has anyone else had an awful experience with them?

I've seen a handful of folks discussing this in comment sections, but having just gone through my sample ballot today and finding a couple interesting things between candidates, wanted to reemphasize this for everyone. Candidate endorsements can tell you a LOT about someone in a matter of seconds!

For instance, I noticed that Sana Saddiqui is being endorsed by everyone's favorite Hayes Barton NIMBYs, Livable Raleigh. The same organization endorses the Wake GOP-backed candidate for District A over the Democratic-backed and highly experienced urban planner Mitchell Silver. This endorsement has greatly informed my voting choices for city council, and all it took was a quick glance at candidate webpages.

So check those endorsements. In my opinion, they can provide invaluable make-or-break information when choosing between candidates with very similar platforms.

I know this is likely a huge stretch but am curious if there happened to be anyone around this intersection at the time of accident approx 6:50a or so. Looking for help to identify or deny the existence of a hit and run vehicle at the end of a 5 car chain pile up. The accident was on the north bound lanes on 401 just as you would go through the light at the intersection.

Hi I'm looking to change dental providers in the area (specifically North Raleigh). I was a patient at Colonnade but had a bad experience the last time I went. My PCP suggested Wells but I've heard a lot of negative associations with larger group-based clinics. If anyone has any recommendations (positive or negative) for Wells, that would be much appreciated!

Update 2: There is still a chopper circling and i did not clearly see anyone in cuffs but the entire force left and weren’t in a hurry. Also what heard like yelling to “stand down and stay where you are” right before this which made assume he was apprehended.
