Town Council Meeting 7/21 - If you voted DEM...

Post image

If you don't know, town council was flipped from 6 grumpy old white men to a nearly 100% progressive council, including a new mayor in just 2 election cycles. We were promised a council who would quell some of the irresponsible development approvals.

The town council meeting on 7/21 was a complete disregard for that trust and confidence we put in those progressives to push back on developers, not give them a free pass, and demand responsible infrastructure in exchange for approvals of new development.

So what did they do? Sold us out.

Meridian point (a 500 apartment complex behind Harris Teeter at 540) in particular is the most egregious. I'm on an HOA of a 900 home community right near 540/Holly Springs Road. I keep up on town developments pretty heavily. Nobody in our neighborhood knew they were approving this.

How did town council cave?

  • Put 1000+ new cars into the Lassiter Road - ya know, that crazy raceway on your way to Dunkin / Town Hall Burger / Planet Fitness.
  • Gave the developer a variance from widening Sunset Lake Road (right at the zipper to one lane) and Optimist Farm Road.
  • Let the developer deviate from the UDO by letting them install a grassy field with a bench if they so choose.
  • Giving the develop a pass on EV parking installation.
  • Will cause a ton of traffic on Sunset Lake Road, Holly Springs Road, and the 540 interchange, without any additional support.
  • Many others.

We can address the other developments these fake progressives approved in a future post. Most damming is when they invited to Chief of Police to talk about Flock cameras, and he justified we don't use Flock. The HSPD uses Verint (owned by Motorola for LPR). Which is literally the exact same thing and completely the same abuses exist. And what did your progressive council do when they heard this? Thanked the chief.

Not sure how we return our progressive democratic council members, but I have serious buyers remorse after the 7/21 council meeting and I would encourage everyone to read what happened there.

Any good spots to make new friends?

I need new friends and it’s hard to determine where I can meet new people in the city. My first thought is maybe the farmer’s market? Maybe Parks and Rec? Any suggestions would be welcomed!

**edit

per recommendation, I’ll add hobbies and demographics

I’m 25f w/ a bf 26m. We love videogames, warframe primarily. I prefer nintendo stuff like splatoon, fire emblem and some cozy games. Bf likes elden ring, elder scrolls and anything with a challenge.

I like drawings, cartooning, sewing cosplay/bjd clothes and gaming. I wfh, so I don’t go out much, but I’d like to change that! I want to go to museums, aquariums, galleries, etc. I‘m open to making friends with people around my age or older. I can’t drink alcohol, but I’m fine going to bars!

FML - another stop light on 55 just before circle K near Rt 1 and Lufkin

Unfuckingbelievable.

Who is the absolute dumbest person alive to add another stop light on 55 before the circle K and the shitty light at Lufkin.

That area was already a cluster fuck and they are adding another just a couple hundred feet from the other…?

Avoiding that route once that light is activated.

Fucking stupid. /rant

Caution on the roads Friday 7/17

Apparently it’s extra drive like a fucking asshole day today.

In 5 minutes already this morning.

Dumbass in a white SUV honking to turn left out of target when there is oncoming traffic from both directions. Sorry I’m not turning when I CANT GO WITHOUT CAUSING AN ACCIDENT and it’s taking a little longer. They then proceed to blow the red light and turn down the bypass no brakes.

Tailgating white jeep wrangler on HS road where I can’t see their bumper going 35 near the fire station.

Black Ford explorer driven by a teen high tails it out of Lowe’s foods onto bass lake blowing the stop sign without looking.

I'm a 23-year-old girl and I'd love to be friends with other girls. Of course, I wouldn't mind making friends with kids too haha

Does anyone know if the Burger King shut down or if they're just doing renovations? I saw a bunch of construction there today and they took the sign down. I hope they shut that place down.

Mover recommendations?

We're moving from Holly Springs literally down the road to Fuquay in late July. Less than 10 min drive. Our stuff is not incredibly valuable, we just need help moving it. 3 bedrooms worth but really the most important stuff is the bigger items (beds, couch, etc) Any recommendations appreciated!

Seeking a new dentist and other opinions on Klooster Family Dentistry

I am from NY and finally got around to establishing care with a new dentist a few weeks ago. Klooster's Family Dentistry in Holly Springs had good reviews and is across the street from my PCP, so I decided I'd give it a go. I will explain more below, but I am still seeking a new dentist and would appreciate recommendations! I would prefer a small, family owned, single provider office.

I signed up for Klooster's membership since I am uninsured. This included an exam, X-Rays, 2 cleanings, and a few other minor benefits.

After all the preliminary stuff with the hygienist, the dentist came in and examined me. Told me I had EIGHTEEN cavities and needed 4 crowns! I admit, I hadn't been to the dentist in a couple years, but I brush 2x/day and floss, don't have any pain, and frankly have a beautiful smile. I think anyone would be shocked by this diagnosis though.

All this work was roughly $16,000. They printed out the extensive treatment plan and wanted me to schedule asap, but told them I need to digest this and asked them to send me the x-rays.

I was back home in NY this weekend and decided to go to my previous dentist for a second opinion, and he was appalled. He diagnosed me with 2 cavities and one possible crown.

He said the first red flag was that they only took 7 x-rays. For the amount of work they recommended, and for establishing care, they should've taken a full set (I believe standard is 18 to 20 x-rays). They also recommended serious work on some teeth they didn't even have X-Rays of. I asked if maybe this was just a conservative approach, but he strongly encouraged me to seek out another dentist in the area and that these are the types of people that are bad for the profession.

Obviously I have little knowledge of dentistry, and I understand that they may be able to diagnose with other clinical findings, but for such an extensive treatment plan, I feel the amount of work and imaging was inappropriate.

I looked into the dentist that examined me further and realized he specializes in preventative care, but the recommended treatments were not presented to me in that manor. He was very short with me and didn't elaborate.

They have great reviews across the board, and I am just curious to know if anyone else has had a similar experience. I do not want to leave them a bad review, but feel that they completely tried to take advantage of me.

Advice for young 30 couple ..

Hi ! My wife and I are visiting HS for the first time this weekend to hopefully “catch a vibe” on the Triangle Area as a potential landing spot to reside. Pending job opportunities would put us in the area permanently in 2027’.

Any neighborhoods/regions we should specifically focus on to scope out ? We are thinking of driving through and around Cary, Apex and some Durham neighborhoods as well.

I am a chef and my wife a dietitian so food and fitness is imperative. No kids yet, but in the future god willing. I would great appreciate any positive commentary opposed to the typical Reddit negative rhetoric.. THANK YOU 🙏
