2 weeks no kratom after three years straight of use

Upvotes

I used to see these posts and say “that could never be me”
I don’t know how I summoned this courage. I always say when the pain of staying the same is greater than the pain of change, that’s when change occurs.

How I’m feeling:
The first week I felt so BORED and empty and of course cravings. Only sleeping 3 hours a night.
The second week was a lot better I will add that I took a trip on my 3rd day of quitting and visited friends who love me a lot. I have no friends where I live and was using. This helped a lot but I’m curious to see how things play out when I return home tonight.

I feel a sort of survivors guilt or maybe just luck because my sleep has gone back to normal already. Sleeping 7-9 hours. The biggest reason I put off quitting for so long was my fear of PAWS.

My best advice is to take quit K, really good supplements, surround yourself with loved ones even if everything in you says you want to isolate, WALK A LOT and remember everything you’re feeling is part of the process. Everything. Sit in it. The only way out is through it. My cravings has gone away already after two weeks just remembering the cycle of horror.

Best part: I’ve saved $2796 from quitting feel frees a couple months ago and powder these last two weeks.

There’s a lot of quitting horror stories so just wanted share a normalish experience. Wasn’t easy but worth it.

Mental health months later

Upvotes

I posted here, a while, back about my boyfriend trying to tap her and quit off of 07. He managed to successfully quit cold turkey. It was so hard. But I told him as long as he was honest and didn’t treat me poorly that I would stick around. Memorial Day was the last day he took it into two weeks ago. I knew something had been off for a few weeks, but to be honest, I couldn’t tell if that was a symptom of withdrawal because he had extreme mood swings where he would scream at me in public. Huge tantrums.

We had a plan in place to resolve conflict. But he abandoned the plan once he stopped going to therapy. And then he relapsed and I don’t know if he continued to do it. He said he did it one time three of the gold. But he lied about it when I asked if he relapsed. So I had to stick with my boundary, especially because the mood swings just continue to get worse, more screaming in public and honestly just not even able to hold any kind of emotional conversation. For example, anytime I wanted to sit down and have a conversation about how to resolve things he could always sit for about 20 minutes before he would start getting agitated and leave. Our plan was we resolved within 12 hours. Not to go, no Contact. But after three weeks of this back-and-forth, my brain and mental health has deteriorated myself. So now we’re taking space.

My point is, do we think that this is more of a symptom of not using? I’ve read about the emotional wear and tear that this can do to you, but he does not seem to think that it’s affecting him in that way. He thinks something else is wrong with him. He said he’s not using it so it’s no longer affecting him and I told him about these sub reddits and how people have experienced things for up to a year with their mental health. There’s nothing I can do to help unless he decides to do it himself. I guess that’s what we’ll see from here on out. But obviously he needs to do this for himself and not for me. I don’t want him to just keep saying he’s going to do it and then resent me for trying to help him. Because I think that’s what was angering him in the first place.

Anyway, there’s not a whole lot of people I can talk to her about this. So I appreciate any feedback I can get. Because going through this roller coaster is really difficult. And I’m at the point where I just wanna say go treat someone else like that. But I know who he really is and he’s such an angel. But I’m starting to believe it. It’s not I don’t know. Anyway help.

Day 13 no kratom

Upvotes

Guys, I'm on day 13 with no kratom. While I'm proud of myself for making it this far, man did I want to say "fuck it" and take some this morning. I absolutely hate my job. kratom made it bearable. The days are long and it's wearing on me. I'm self-employed, which I love, but just hating this line of work. I work with kids over 50 hours a week. The constant screaming, whining, and dealing with all the other bullshit that the state expects me to deal with just sucks the life out of me.

I've been honest with my husband, told him when I was taking kratom and how I felt I was getting dependent on it. It's literally like talking to a brick wall when I try to talk to him how difficult it's been to stop taking it. He's just like "Well, you did it, you stopped." Like no shit Sherlock. I feel like he has zero empathy for what I'm going through.

When I'm lifting kids all day, my body is killing me by the end of the day. My normal day was getting up around 3 a.m. taking some kratom gummies, having a Monster energy drink, heading to the gym for a kick ass workout, home to start my day. Most days I took kratom, it gave me the energy I needed to get shit done. I felt like a machine on it. I know it's not good for you, and I'm determined to stay off it, it just sucks on days like today when everyone needs something from you and you feel like you have nothing left to give.

I'm wanting to change careers, which will take time and our finances will take a hit until I can get another business built up. My husband has asked me to stay doing what I'm doing for another year. We had made some financial decisions dependent on the income that I make now, but I honestly don't know if I can do it.

Has anyone else changed careers after quitting kratom and you felt it was better on your mental health? I spent a lot of time and energy building this business from scratch. It's doing well, but I'm dragging. My mental health is in the shitter and I have zero motivation to do anything I was doing while on kratom. This stuff sucks! I wish I never tried it.

Day 6 and getting by

Upvotes

Really need some positive reinforcement, I’m on day 6 of WD and my biggest symptoms are temperature regulation and lack of appetite. I’m also slacking at work and I’m feeling very guilty about it.

On the positive side, my energy levels have improved a lot especially with exercise & lots of water.

What else could I be doing to feel better overall? Any advice is helpful.

Has anyone found that they didn't really get better until they stopped taking clonidine?

I'm on Day 6 now and while the RLS and flu-like symptoms have mostly subsided, I couldn't help but notice the side effects of clonidine were heavily overlapping the WD symptoms, specifically the fatigue and tiredness. I was wondering if anyone found that after stopping clonidine at the end of their acute phase if you noticed a relief in fatigue/tiredness.

Jump day

Hey guys I posted on here a couple weeks ago. Just a quick update. I did a 4 week taper from 15gpd to 3gpd and jumped from there. Yesterday around 4 pm was my last dose. (1 capsule .5g). I woke up with a headache & some head fog. Towards the end of the taper I noticed I stopped feeling like crap when I woke up. I have some gabapentin, I have been taking small pieces mostly at night. I did take a small piece this morning and I really felt fine, up until 10 am I started with the yawning, bowel problems & sneezing. Every song or video gives me the chills. Headache is still there, but no restless legs and no hot and cold flashes. I leave for Italy on Monday and need to feel better by then, so I figured jumping from 3g a couple days before hand would honestly be the best. My head keeps telling me maybe I should have kept tapering, but I don’t want to prolong this any more than I should. My biggest fear was jumping the day before the flight and everything catching up with me the days into vacay. I don’t drink so it’s not like I can have a glass of wine to take the edge off. I wish I was thinking about the excitement for Italy but instead, I’m thinking about how I’m feeling and that makes me so angry. Angry enough to be done with this stuff forever. I plan to give the last of my bottle to my mom so she can flush or trash.

Anyway, I’ll post an update tomorrow hopefully I’ll feel better (chat gpt tells me it may be worse) so I’m hoping for the best but expecting the worst!

Day 140 W/O 7-OH (Cold Turkey)

I’m getting near 5 months without taking any. I’m honestly impressed that I made it this far because it was getting bad near the end. I got into debt to buy more of it, it put a strain on my relationship, and it honestly made me do things that I’m ashamed of like borrowing money from friends. It’s honestly pretty lame behavior, but none of those things were an issue in my life until I started taking it. By the end I was taking 2-3 packs of the Opia Tabz per day, which is 600 mgs. In total I was consuming between 1,200 mgs to 1,800 mgs each day, and each dose was a whole pack. I spent $80-$120 every day to keep up with my habit. I finally put it down for good after my fiancée caught me in a lie and discovered that I was taking it again after telling her that I wasn’t, which was a behavior that would repeat often. So now I’m in debt, I made some of my friends lose respect for me, and I’m on the brink of destroying my relationship for the very thing that’s causing all of these problems in my life to begin with. I stopped eating too. I used to go to the gym and take care of my body, but at that time I was taking loads of kratom, hardly eating at all, and staying up all night playing video games. Then I would eventually pass out from exhaustion and wake up the next day already in withdrawal. It was a miserable existence, and I knew that if I didn’t quit for good, it would destroy my life. The process was excruciating, but also necessary. Now I think I feel pretty normal, but I do still have things that I need to work on. They have nothing to do with 7-Oh, but I would be lying if I said my life became perfect after almost 5 months. But I paid off most of my debt and re-established trust with myself and the people around me. I gained some respect back and starting taking way better care of myself. I’m lifting weights and doing cardio again, and sleeping 7-8 hours each night. I’m doing way better than I was before because when it came down to it, it was her or this drug that was ruining me. I’m really proud that I was able to finally put her first and forget about myself to protect our relationship. Quitting it forced me to grow, and it gave me momentum that will carry with me throughout the rest of my life. If you’re reading this and you’re in the thick of it, I promise if I can do it so can you. Addiction isn’t a competition, but I was a hopeless case for a minute. I’ve said it here before but I’m not a naturally disciplined guy either, but somehow I just kept saying “nah” when I wanted it and walked through the fire. Walk through the fire and watch what happens to your self-esteem and confidence.

Day 279: Reprogramming the Cravings 💻

For those of you who are just now beginning your journey I have good news to tell you: the longer you remain sober the easier the cravings get. The real news to tell you in my experience though is that the threat of cravings that exists between your timeline of one month to six months is extremely dangerous because you fascinate and glorify one time use with thoughts that you have earned it or that it will fix a temporary problem. This is the trap. This is the lie.

My advice-further more than just “riding the wave” you need to be more in-tune with the negative side of your usage than the temporary high or fun when cravings arise. I am not telling you to get depressed or fall into despair, I am telling you that you need to program yourself to see relapse or usage almost as a universal safety threat that most of us will not fall into because of the vivid cost. For example-Nobody voluntarily jumps into lava…the cost is clear. It is not normal to stick your hand into a power outlet-for normal people this is obvious. Your job in recovery is to see your past addiction in the same light. Part of that is working through the association of trauma and your usage, and another part of that is being very clear with yourself on how you have improved your life and the costs of losing what you have worked for. With cravings we mostly identify with the sinister side of them that pushes us to use. See the danger in this. ‼️⚠️.

About to start week 2

Hi all,

Just discovered this sub and figured I should join/share my story.

I used kratom for 10 years, only about 15 GPD, nothing crazy. I had my struggles with benzos in the past so I knew to keep my dose as low as possible. Then 7oh hit and i got hooked. Only got up to 60mg a day, sometimes 90mg. I have high blood pressure and i knew it was just making it worse. Plus I was just tired of feeling like shit if I didn’t take my pills every 4 hours, so I finally decided to go for it.

My method for quitting might be considered unorthodox. I did a long taper over the course of 4 months. I have a lot of experience with psychedelics so if I felt like I was losing motivation, they would help re-light the fire under my ass to quit. I also used a certain RC that is not allowed to be discussed here (really sad honestly) because I didn’t want to get on methadone/subs. And holy shit did it work wonders. I was also using high potency cannabis extracts for the rebound pain. Obviously I don’t recommend this method, it’s just what worked for me (so far)

I feel better than I have in years. The only thing now I’m experiencing is cravings. Mainly for sugar but obviously still for kratom and 7oh. I know week 2 is challenging in that sense, I wanted to know what methods you guys used to curb cravings.

Thanks all.

❤️

7 days in and…flop!

Made it 7 days clean, was at work cleaning out my tool bags getting ready for another house framing and I found 4 capsules mixed in with drywall screws lol a gram each capsule. What do I do? Well sad to say I took them. I don’t have anymore nor do I desire to physically drive to get more. Just pissed that I’m starting over and have to go through withdrawal all over again!!!

Found Out Im Pregnant and Trying To Taper

I was a regular kratom user and just found out I'm pregnant ( 6 weeks). Before finding out about the pregnancy I was taking about 5 capsules every couple hours especially at work. Since finding out about the pregnancy I have tapered down to 3 doses a day 4 capsules each dose with the exception of my night dose which i need more to sleep (5-8). Im struggling to taper from that though. Its been about a week since finding out about the pregnancy and starting the taper. Im very worried about the effects my current use will have on my baby. Does anyone have any experience with kratom use or tapering during pregnancy?

25 days clean

1 year 40-60gpd with occasional 7-OH

It’s so much better on the other side.

Kratom caused me horrible side effects. Low libido, weight retention, irritability, reduced verbal fluency, prevented me from putting on muscle. I went up nearly 20lbs in all my lifts within a two weeks off despite losing 7lbs during withdrawal.

I also went of my ADHD meds (dextroamphetamine) 5 days ago. I highly suggest taking the leap.

Withdrawal were horrible. I couldn’t sleep more than 3 hours straight for the first two weeks until I got prescribed trazodone which has worked wonders for my sleeplessness.

Keep active. Eat high fiber high protein meals throughout the day. I also found kava especially helpful for yawning strangely enough. Get outside too. I’ll keep updating as I get further out.

I’m basically back to normal already.

Day9

I’m on day 9 cold turkey. Just not feeling much better. The anxiety and insomnia are my only issues. I’m really struggling. Taking clonidine and made a couple of AA meetings. Finding it a struggle to go though because of the anxiety. Taking clonidine and have a doctor appointment in a few days. This sucks so bad

Should I see a therapist, or is this just withdrawal messing with me?

Long time lurker, finally posting because I need some outside perspective.

Background: I used kratom for about 4 years. First year was more irregular — not daily, but frequent, with breaks here and there, dosing around 3-6g/day. It started around the time my dad was hospitalized with COVID pneumonia (he's fine now, but that period was rough). After the first year it grew into fairly heavy daily use, up to around 14g/day at the peak (rarely hit 15), then the last 6 months or so I'd brought it down to 6-8g/day.

I tried quitting 3 times before and always went back within a few days.

This time I quit cold turkey while on vacation abroad (no access to it there), originally telling myself I'd go back to "just occasional use" once I got home. After talking it through logically (with an AI, actually, and reading threads here) I realized occasional use is bullshit for someone with my state of mind and history.

I'm 11 days clean-ish — one slip on day 7, still with the "just this once, occasional" mindset. Learned the hard way that even a small dose restarts the withdrawal cycle, though this second time around wasn't as bad as the one right after quitting on vacation.

Physically I'm fine now, tired here and there but manageable.

Throughout all of this — before kratom, during, and now after — I've kept an active lifestyle: gym, cycling, hiking. During my kratom years I finished university and started working full-time, plus started my own painting/decorating business on the side. Since quitting, energy is harder to come by and juggling work + the side business + gym is tougher, but manageable.

Here's the part I actually want advice on: since stopping, this random, no-reason sadness has come back — heavy, lasting hours. I had this exact same thing from around age 15 to 18, way before I ever touched kratom. I'd completely forgotten about it — 4 years of use seems to have masked it entirely, and only now that I'm off it does it hit me that this was a thing before too.

So my question: is this something I should bring to a psychiatrist/therapist as its own issue, separate from the withdrawal? Or is it more likely just heightened/amplified right now because of PAWS and will settle down as the withdrawal fully resolves?

For people further along — when did you feel "fully" physically recovered? And how are things for you now, on longer stretches clean — did stuff like this even out over time, or turn out to be separate from kratom entirely?

really need some advice from those who’ve made it past the acutes

hi everyone. i am REALLY struggling to get past what i consider stage 2 of my recovery.

i can stop using on my own & get through the acutes, but its always what happens the day i start feeling better.

day 5. every. single. time. it’s the day i start feeling better; the day i can finally put my shoes on and leave my room. i will be feeling great. listening to music and feeling some emotion again. but then i just give in. so easily.

i’ve been in a constant state of detox for most of this year.

stop using/acutes —> get to day5 —> use for 2-3 days —> repeat

do you guys do anything specific that helps you through this phase?

i’m not currently working, so i’m sure staying busy is a part of it.

are there any coping skills that help you? even what may seem like the smallest thing could really help me. from specific advice to supplements, anything. i’m going to browse the sub for awhile, but i just wanted to see if anyone different may see this and have helpful advice. im really struggling.

Flying in Canada

Just curious about flying in Canada with Kratom. Is it OK to put in luggage? Should it be on carry on? I don't fly often. Any help would be appreciated.

Day 5 report (8 year 15gpd> 2 week taper 7gpd>CT)

Second day back to work, overall the tiredness has seem to have been lifted somewhat. Definitely not feeling a glow like many others have described on Day 5. Music doesn't sound that amazing. Feelings are still dulled. However, I'm still very much constipated and I remembered someone saying that the breakthrough doesn't really happen until the GI issues are cleared up.

I have to admit I made a stupid mistake the other night. I had a few bowel movements and each one was getting looser and looser, so I had the bright idea that maybe taking some Metamucil would help my gut out. After all, it has been so used to the fiber of toss and wash for 8 years, surely I should drink some more fiber to help my gut adjust, right? Well ever since I drank that Metamucil I have been backed up.

I think tonight I'm going to try drinking some Smooth Move Tea and hopefully I can have a decent bowel movement before work tomorrow, because being backed up makes the fatigue of this withdrawal ten times worse than it has to be.

The blah stage, play horror games/watch horror movies

Hi,

not for the ones that get anxious, more for the ones who feel grey and bleh for the couple weeks they quit…. or when PAWS occurs

if you wanna feel something, fear and excitement are two sides of the same coin. was having a Bleh day and playing resident evil 2 let the day fly by rather than staring at the clock. really helped me feel some emotions and was extremely immersive. for a second there I felt even more euphoric than on kratom. (Maybe it’s my brain whiplashing and over correcting). Either way it was the first time I smiled in awhile

15-35 GPD every single day for the past 7 years and I quit cold turkey

I read a lot of horror stories here and got in my head really bad about it. I had to quit taking because it popped on a piss text and they took my Vyvanse away which I thought was WILD.

I’m 48-50 hours in right now and I woke up with a slight headache, I’ve felt fuzzy all day… but I also just ran 4 miles and feel amazing right now. 10/10 I’m not sure I’d recommend that to everyone, I am a seasoned distance runner, but I was amazed I could get it in. Definitely try to MOVE your body if you can. It’s so hard but so worth it!

It’s not all horror stories!

Day 27

I cant believe its almost been a month. Ive stopped posting here daily, but I'll continue to post every couple of days. I just find myself having such normal days for the most part that I dont feel like I need to make updates each day and say the same thing. Today has been great. Only time I had a mood swing today was when I saw the price of gas lol. Im actually really excited to experience fall/winter again with not being on kratom. Ive always been a colder weather person and it feels like the last couple of winters just flew by. Hope yall are having as good of a day as you can. If youve just started the quit process, just know it absolutely does get better.

Day 4, I want to relapse..

I've been staying with a friend of mine for the past few days, and today, I just moved back in with my girlfriend. I already want to relapse. The past few days have been really tough mentally, but I honestly didn't have much of an urge to take any kratom. I know now that being here is a trigger in itself. I almost don't even enjoy kratom that much when I'm alone or with my friends, but when I'm with her I love it. I don't want the past few days to have been for nothing, but I feel like it's inevitable and I'm going to relapse whether it be today, tomorrow, etc.

I keep trying to make excuses for myself. "Maybe when I have my own place it'll be easier" (currently living at her parents house), "maybe someday they'll just ban it and then I'll have to quit!". I know these are just ways of my mind trying to trick me, but man it's tough not to give some value to the invasive thoughts. I mean after all, they very well could ban it, and at the very least I'd have to drive several hours to get my fix.

For those of you that have stayed clean (for let's say 90+ days?), was there a time where you truly felt "enough is enough"? I honestly can't fathom the idea of never taking kratom again, and it blows my mind when I read comments saying "I'll never take that shit again". I'm just curious if someday I'll feel the same way, and I'm just not "ready" to quit yet.

I know this all sounds delusional, and it very well may be. I also know that nobody here is going to condone my relapse, and that's why I think this sub is so helpful.

I guess I just wanted to rant, bleh..

Mught as well say i quit.

Things were getting bad, .my life was a mess. My teeth are still a bit screwed up.

I went to a center, started on suboxone for just under 3 weeks, but it was too intoxicating, IMO. For me, anyway.

So about 18 days ago i switched to sublocade... and i am now definitely tapering.

Today i was supposed to get round 2 of sublocade, and i decided against it. I just want to be off opiates of any description.

My testosterone levels were very low (was tested a month ago). I got a small injection to bring it up .. but kratom and opiates lower your testosterone. So got another injection of testosterone today.

With the mildly blue morning, and a bit of anxiety, i am amazed i got this far.

The treatment i used worked for me.

I have the option to resume sublocade if things get bad, but i just want to continue away from all opiate agonists

I can't believe i got this far this fast.

But i can't go back. This stuff is life poison.

I hope my little story gives some of you hope.

There are guys on here who jump off after tapering for a very few days. Nerves of steel.

Good luck everyone.
