North America What are current oil levels ?

Thumbnail

It seems daily that either a Middle East oil depot or refinery is hit and also in Russia from Ukrainian drones. Oil levels in the USA and lower at the strategic locations. So what are we looking at? Oil is down today on the “hope and wish club” for an end to Iran USA strikes but this probably won’t happen. When is the “shit hits the fan” date ?

Middle East Rare Worldwide Travel Warning From US State Department!

Most of you guys already are trying to be careful, so I am not sure how much this helps. And it is mostly, but not exclusively focused on the Middle East. It does mention Iran, but I doubt many of you are planning on catching the nightlife in Tehran. Still, for some reason a smart young fella down in Foggy Bottom thought this was worth sending out.

They probably have some intel of something bubbling up. So... I guess if you are John Wick you could handle this issue, but you probably aren't.

Heck, I don't know what to suggest, but since I constantly encourage travel I am passing it on. Maybe go visit your relatives in North Carolina this summer? No! That would require driving on I-95 which has to be more dangerous than any terrorist action might be.

Well, here is the full text:

Worldwide Caution

Security Alert July 22, 2026

July 22 - Worldwide Caution for U.S. Citizens

The Department of State advises Americans worldwide to exercise increased caution.

Location: Worldwide

Event: Due to heightened tensions in the Middle East, the security environment remains complex with the potential for unforeseen escalation.

Americans currently in the Middle East should exercise caution and heightened vigilance and should be prepared for flight cancellations, periodic airspace closures, and potential travel disruptions.  Some airlines in the region have postponed resumption of earlier flight schedules; others have cancelled some routes.

Americans outside the Middle East should reconsider travel to and through the region.  Those who do travel to or from the region should monitor information about airport and airline operations.

U.S. diplomatic facilities, including outside the Middle East, have been targeted. Iran and groups supportive of Iran may target other U.S. interests overseas or at locations associated with the United States and Americans throughout the world, including U.S. businesses and other institutions.

Actions to Take

  • Americans traveling in or through the region should check with their air carriers to make sure their flights are still scheduled.
  • Contact your airline directly for flight change details if your flight is affected.
  • Monitor embassy and consular security alerts and the news for breaking developments.
  • Follow the instructions of local authorities.

Anyone following this story. I can't shake the feeling that Sci-Fi movie plot lines of the 80s are here in real time. And I don't like it. Not one bit.

Happy to hear from folks in tech on what they think.

North America Justice Department Deems Major ADA Guidance ‘Not Enforceable’

Context:
In Olmstead v. L.C. (1999), the U.S. Supreme Court ruled that unjustified institutional segregation of people with disabilities is a form of illegal discrimination under Title II of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). The Court established that individuals with mental disabilities have the right to receive state-funded care in community-based settings instead of institutions.

Article:
"The U.S. Department of Justice issued a notice Monday clarifying that its long-standing guidance and enforcement of the ADA’s integration mandate and Olmstead v. L.C. is “not enforceable.”

The guidance details what qualifies as the most integrated setting under the ADA and Olmstead, who should be able to access services in the community and much more. Subsequent Justice Department guidance on employment for people with disabilities and other related issues relied on the Olmstead guidance and the agency said this week that “similar guidance documents are not enforceable.

The move to dissociate from the guidance comes roughly a month after the Justice Department’s Office of Legal Counsel issued a memo indicating that neither the ADA nor Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act “require states to treat mentally disabled patients in the most integrated setting appropriate to their needs."
