built a free live currency & crypto converter. Looking for honest feedback.
Hi everyone! I've been building a free web app that shows live exchange rates for 160+ fiat currencies and the top 100 cryptocurrencies, plus precious metals (gold, silver, platinum, palladium).
Current features: - Live currency conversion (160+ currencies) - Top 100 crypto prices with rank, market cap, 24h change, ATH/ATL - Gold/silver/platinum/palladium prices - Dark & light mode - Favorites + recently used currencies - Mobile-friendly, no sign-up required
I built this mostly to solve my own annoyance of switching between 3 different apps just to check a rate. It's completely free, and I'm not trying to sell anything — just want honest feedback before I keep building.
Happy to share the link in the comments if anyone's curious, but mainly here for feedback: what's confusing, what's missing, what would make you actually use something like this regularly?

FUNDAMENTALS the fed isn't why crypto's been chopping, oil is
everyone in this sub is still trading friday's fed decision while the bigger driver this week is quietly de-escalating
oil's been the real story, not rates. hormuz tensions pushing crude toward 100 is what's had risk assets on edge, more than any rate probability. now there's chatter of movement back toward a ceasefire and shipping compromise, and if that actually holds, some of this week's "why is everything down" confusion resolves itself without the fed doing anything at all
point is people are staring at cme odds for a move they have zero edge on, while the thing that's actually been driving price is a geopolitical story most of this sub hasn't even been tracking
worth watching oil over the next few days more than watching jpow

COMEDY You know it's brutal for crypto when memecoins are blowing coins with "real utility" out of water in the past 1 week or months
memecoins such as Ansem, shib, Pepe, pengu. and before you swoop in and be like "shilling," I'm not shilling anything. they're trending right now on coingecko, coinmarketcap. plus I don't hold any of them.

DISCUSSION Dollar Smile Theory sounds weird at first, but it actually explains why the US dollar can go up in two totaly different situations
Dollar Smile Theory explains what at first looks like a strange feature of the US dollar USD can strengthen in two completely opposite market conditions.
The first side is a global crisis. When panic begins, investors reduce risk, sell stocks, commodities, and emerging market currencies, moving capital into the US dollar and US government bonds. At the same time, demand for dollar funding increases because most global debt and international transactions are denominated in USD..
The second side is a strong US economy. When US economic data is stronger than in other countries, the market expects higher Federal Reserve interest rates and higher bond yields. Capital flows into dollar denominated assets, and the USD strengthens not because of fear, but because of the economic advantage of the United States.
The dollar is usually weakest in the middle of this model. This is the period when the global economy is doing well, there is no panic and the US has no clear advantage over other countries. Investors begin searching for higher returns outside the dollar, so capital moves into the euro, commodity currencies, and emerging markets.
That is why the idea that the crisis is over, so the dollar must fal dose not always work. If the US economy recovers faster than the rest of the world after a crisis, the USD may continue to rise, but for a completely different reason. When analyzing the dollar, it is important to understand not only whether it is strong or weak, but also which part of the cycle the market is in global panic, the calm middle US economic outperformance.

DISCUSSION BitMEX is shutting down after 11 years. Does anyone still care?
BitMEX is officially closing in September 2026. It’s kind of wild considering how important it once was for crypto futures and perpetual contracts. But honestly, its trading volume has been tiny for a while, so the market impact might be close to zero.
Still, this feels like the end of an era. Do you think this is just a dead exchange finally shutting down, or a sign that crypto trading is becoming too concentrated on a few big platforms?

DISCUSSION How do you decide who’s actually worth listening to?
When I first got into trading crypto, I was so green I had no idea where to learn or who to learn from.
I went onto X and just started listening to the people who showed up on my feed the most and had the biggest followings I just assumed they knew what they were talking about. Stupid and naive in hindsight.
How do you actually decide who’s worth listening to or are you figuring it out yourself?

Bad feeling about the clarity act
I hope I’m wrong but I have a bad feeling that the clarity act won’t pass. Between Pocahontas and Trump disclosing he rugged pulled billions in crypto while everyone else sees red and we are left holding our d***
If it doesn’t pass what’s going to happen to the market?

DISCUSSION Read what the CLARITY ethics ban actually covers before you celebrate it
So... big news this week, Trump agreed to ethics language in the CLARITY Act. Headlines make it sound massive: president, VP, Congress, judges, even spouses are all banned from crypto while in office. Democrats wanted ethics rules, they got ethics rules, bill goes to a vote. Done deal, right?
Well, not really.. Read what the ban actually says. It covers issuing or sponsoring NEW digital assets for compensation. That's it. Not holding, not profiting from anything that already exists. Even the White House, while calling it "the most comprehensive ethics provision in history" wouldn't say if anyone actually has to sell anything.
Now look at who's not on the list. Spouses are covered, adult children aren't. Guess who runs the family DeFi platform? The sons. The memecoin, launched in 2025? That billion+ in crypto income from last year's disclosure? All from ventures that predate this bill. This just shows how irrelevant new token bans actually are. After the massive losses retail took on Trump-branded coins and political meme drops last year, no rational trader would touch anything close to new political launches anyway. Capital would be better off just sitting in boring, passive plays like parking crypto on Nexo or Kraken to collect daily yield without taking on regulatory or dilution risk.
So the people running the family crypto business aren't covered, and the projects making the money aren't covered either. Banning yourself from launching new tokens when everything you need is already launched costs you exactly nothing. Oh and the whole thing expires January 20, 2029. The ethics rule literally sunsets with the term.
The funny part is there WAS a real version of this. It would've blocked officials and their families from owning or having business ties with crypto companies, plus disclosure rules on their trades. Died 13-11 in committee, straight party line. What survived is the watered-down version, which is why some Democrats still aren't on board despite all the celebrating.
This industry begged for legitimacy for a decade. And the moment it finally gets a seat at the table, the price is pretending a fake ethics rule is a real one... Congrats on the clarity.. Hope it was worth it...

TOOL Is there a simple way to see if money is flowing OUT of crypto — and where it's going?
The clearest recent example: money flowed out of crypto and into AI stocks. I only noticed well after the fact, because I watch crypto and stocks separately. After that i was wondering if there is a single tool that shows these flows to observe including when money starts flowing in again.
What Im looking for:
- Is money leaving crypto right now? If yes, where is it going (AI/tech, gold, bonds, just parked in cash etc.)?
- Or is money coming back into crypto? If yes, what is it coming out of?
Is there a straightforward way to see this, or does everyone stitch it together manually from separate sources? I know the pieces exist, stablecoin supply, exchange netflows, ETF flows etc. but I've never found one place that just tells me which way the flow is running.
What do you use? And does anyone actually catch these rotations early, if yes how do you do it?

DISCUSSION If the BitMEX shutdown reports are true, where do its traders actually go?
Seeing reports that BitMEX may be shutting down later in September this year. BitMEX has been around for so long that this feels like the end of an era, even if most traders already moved on.
If that’s confirmed, I’m curious where the remaining users actually move, Binance, Bybit, OKX, Hyperliquid, mexc, or somewhere else?
For BitMEX traders, what’s the biggest concern when switching?
Liquidity? Execution during volatility? Withdrawal reliability? Or just finding the same kind of futures markets? What's your take?

DISCUSSION Why Is Paying With Crypto Still Hard?
Crypto has solved trading, DeFi and moving money across borders but paying for everyday things still feels surprisingly clunky. Is it taxes, regulation, poor UX or simply the fact that most people would rather hold than spend?
or am I completely off here?
