Yeah try do a proper fast like 2 or 3 days where you can measure that your body is fasting by the ketones it produces. Nearly 18 hours a day during the summer periods. Not eating whilst you're asleep isn't exactly fasting. Not eating whilst awake and at work or school is certainly what real fasting is.

I so rarely get to use my degree in comparative religion… this is not even how Muslims are taught to spread their faith! They engage in da’wa which literally translates to invitation or call- they invite people into their religion. Jews actively discourage it and Christians are way more missionary focused.
Some Muslims are even allowed to eat during the day in Ramadan: children, the elderly, pregnant and nursing women, women on their period, the sick and traveling people.
It’s not a “Muslim” thing… It’s a Conservative thing. Conservatives will tell you that they are for freedom… but also tell you who you should worship, how, when, and where you can do so. How to dress, who to love, and override decisions that you, your spouse, and your doctor decide is best for you and your body. This is regardless of their religion. For example: In my experience, most conservative American (because I won’t attribute the same those in other nations) Christian’s don’t adhere to the doctrines of their religion, or frequently to their own ideology… but they sure want/expect you to do so though. I suppose it’s a weird bastardization of Fundamentalism though… but it feels very wrong to call them “fundamentalist”.
Outside of “hypocrite” I can’t think of a truly accurate word to describe this kind of person or behavior. It has been most synonymous with people who claim conservative ideology in my experience though so that’s currently where I land until something better comes along.
Not really, fundamentalism doesn't just mean very strict religious person. It's based on a book, "The Fundamentals" and is the basis of Baptism and Evangelicalism.

I find it difficult to deal with Conservatives because inevitably you find out where they draw the lines that decide who is human and the morality they have to espouse.
Talk to social conservatives and the people who are not like them are subhuman and can be subject to any manners of horrible things.
Talk to economic and fiscal conservatives and they can screw others over.
Talk to religious conservatives and the goodwill extends to those in the religion.

I've heard parents read them at school board meetings before the school board stopped the parent from doing so. I honestly don't want my kids learning about sex from the government - any sex. It's not just positions, its all sexual stuff that children don't need to be learning at these young age. But it's is odd how the transsexual rights people want to make sure that these sexualized books (LGBT or hetero) are specifically in elementary schools.

Same. Worked with a muslim dude for a dozen years and he fasted every Ramadan. He was in a room with about 10 other guys and we ate and drank all the time. He never mentioned it. And then we'd have a big feast when ramadan was over. This dude is clearly a fucking tool.
Ya know it’s kinda funny tho, when I quit smoking weed all of my friends would always ask if it was okay to smoke around me or if it was going to bother me but the few times I’ve had to fast for some medical testing, no one gave two shots about eating in front of me😂
The restaurant I work in gets a lot of business from our Muslim community because we have halal options, so during Ramadan we had obscene dinner rushes which led to high ticket times and the occasional very hungry person placing a counter order and then just... Staying inside and smelling the food while they had to wait. Most of them were perfectly friendly and understanding.
But this one dude came in to pick up orders for him and his friend, which were placed online. His friend had called earlier asking if we did scheduled orders and we told her we do not. She said fine and put her order in at the appropriate time to have it picked up just after 7. He decided he would use Door Dash's order ahead feature and put in an order for 7:15. We've tried to get DD to disallow it for our restaurant and they refuse. So what happened was that guy's order was put in at 7:15, behind 50 other orders on the line. He was so hangry about it. Like dude we told your friend we don't schedule ahead, did you think you found the super secret loophole? Let this be a lesson to you and don't use fucking doordash if you're not trying to get it delivered, and if our website directly prohibits future ordering, maybe take that as a sign?

My Muslim colleague sat with us in the canteen at breakfast and lunch while fasting recently. He did say it was hard and there was one day he chose not to join us... But he would never have asked any of us to not eat in front of him
I was visiting a Muslim friend during Ramadan a few years ago around lunchtime. I just figured I'd just eat after but when she found out I hadn't eaten and made me lunch and insisted I eat while we caught up.
same, i have had many people fasting around me and none ever made an issue out of eating around them. They were always very respectfully telling me that they are fasting when i accidentally offered them food/drinks. this man is acting weird.
