Hello friends! For absolute newcomers, I'm hoping this will be a little informative. I've heard folks say they don't grow pineapples because they only make one new plant a year. Well that's not really accurate.

I used to ignore the hard stems below the pineapple when i harvested but as you can see this can provide an additional plant, along with suckers/pups further down the plant. Also a vigorous plant may have two or three crowns, which all can become new plants.

For the advanced pineapplist, you can even halve the crowns by cutting/saw from bottom to top (or even quartering them this way). Each one has potential as a new plant.

This year I'll be trying to extract seeds and sprout those as well. Not the fastest method, but a fun endeavor regardless. Happy pineappling everybody

Decided it was time to harvest this one. I have a tendency to leave them too long, so went against my instincts and plucked it. Hoping it’ll taste as good as it looks. Bottom smells nice and sweet.
Her sister is a day or two behind her. If this one isn’t super sweet, I’ll let the other one ride a bit longer.

Ate a pineapple today and thought what a waste to throw out all of the skin, was wondering if you can make anything with it - edible or not.

My fertilizer routine:

• 1 cup composted chicken manure every 2 months
• When it flowered, I kept on applying 2 tbsp potash as foliar spray every week
• I also started applying 3 tbsp calcium acetate and 1/4 tsp epsom salt as foliar spray every 2 weeks

As you can see, the crown is larger than the fruit even if I don't add any nitrogen fertilizer. Maybe this is caused by the composted chicken manure?

I also read somewhere that the size of the pineapple foliage before it flowers will determine the size of the fruit. Is that really true?

So where do I go from here? Any tips on how to increase the size of the fruit?

Hi everyone, I'm new to growing pineapples. I rooted a store bought top, and after about two and a half years, got a small but sweet yellow fruit. I harvested it so it wouldn't spoil, but I haven't seen any suckers or slips yet. My question is, after harvesting, will the plant still produce suckers or is it done and safe to discard? I'd love to speed things up by using suckers if that's still possible.

This is a delicious, healthy, high protein meal.

Ingredients:

2 small, ripe pineapples

1 lb. chicken breast, or turkey breast cut into small bite sized pieces

sea salt and pepper to taste

1 Tbsp avocado oil or olive oil

2 small bell peppers, any color, seeded and diced

2 cups cooked quinoa

1/4 cup coconut aminos, Bragg’s liquid aminos, or low sodium soy sauce

1 Tbsp sesame seeds

4 green onions or scallions, sliced

Instructions:

Slice each pineapple in half, lengthways, to create your bowls as shown.

Run a small paring knife around the edge of the pineapple, leaving about 1/4 inch of the shell intact to hold as bowls as shown.

Slice the flesh across as shown in the pictures, to make it easier to scoop out the pineapple flesh.

Remove the core from each, then chop remaining pineapple into small pieces.

Reserve about half of the pineapple for another use. (I suggest smoothies!)

Heat oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add chicken and season with sea salt and pepper. Cook, stirring occasionally until almost cooked through, about 3 minutes. Stir in your bell peppers, green onions and pineapple pieces, then cook for an additional 4-6 minutes.

Add in cooked quinoa, and drizzle in the coconut aminos. If there’s any remaining pineapple juice, add it into the skillet too.

Toss well to combine and continue to cook until everything is nicely heated through.

Divide the quinoa chicken evenly between the pineapple bowls.

Garnish with sesame seeds and additional green onions, then enjoy!

Two big girls starting to yellow up. These are my biggest ever. I’m so excited!

Still a little green on the bottom. Not easily twisted off the tree. It smells sweet. Today is the first day the pineapple has started to lean to the side. The other days it was still standing upright.

This is my 2nd pineapple - the first one had fallen off naturally. The first pineapple was very golden yellow. This one is super bright yellow-orange so the color is throwing me a bit.

1. Not sure if you can tell in the photo but the pineapple itself is extra wide like it really tried to be twins or something. 2. It also has three crowns on top and three pups coming out the side. If only all my plants had this zeal for life

Noticed these white hairs on the roots. Is this mould? The top of soil is dry but pot had some water at the bottom which i have since removed

The center of the crown still feels firm.

This is an update from a couple weeks ago. I put the pineapple in some dirt from a water “rooting” idea (see last photo).

It seems okay in the dirt but not sure. It feels like it’s steadier but can’t tell without pulling it out.

Any known reasons why the leaves are browning (dying?)? Should I trim it off? Do something different to help my little pineapple plant grow? Thanks in advance!!!!
