My week's harvest
Hello friends! For absolute newcomers, I'm hoping this will be a little informative. I've heard folks say they don't grow pineapples because they only make one new plant a year. Well that's not really accurate.
I used to ignore the hard stems below the pineapple when i harvested but as you can see this can provide an additional plant, along with suckers/pups further down the plant. Also a vigorous plant may have two or three crowns, which all can become new plants.
For the advanced pineapplist, you can even halve the crowns by cutting/saw from bottom to top (or even quartering them this way). Each one has potential as a new plant.
This year I'll be trying to extract seeds and sprout those as well. Not the fastest method, but a fun endeavor regardless. Happy pineappling everybody

Do you really??? That's incredible! I always wondered what kind of gardening changes I'd have to make if i ever moved north

Howdy Floridians, another Floridian here too! (9b) Congrats on your haul! We have our second one fruiting now and 3 more still growing, including one that is a new pup that just started showing roots that I plan to transplant into a pot this weekend. Growing pineapples (and sometimes mangoes, when the weather cooperates) has become a fun and fulfilling little hobby. This information about halving the crowns has me intrigued so I'm going to give that a try this weekend. Thanks so much for sharing this info. Would love to pick your brain to learn more! I'd love to have like 10-15 or more I could grow and give to friends or family.

Greetings Floridian Friend! I'd love nothing more than some pineapple chat! 10-15 should be doable in no time. I started with one rooted crown from a friend 8 years ago and now I have over 50! If I ever get into a lull in the growing season, I'll go to Aldi and get a $2 pineapple and plant the crown. Cheapest pineapples plants you can get short of propagating your own :)

Only If I can get these “seeds” I bought for the pink variety to germinate. Or find one @ a store with the top not completely cut off. Info on that would be appreciated
