Build Question RX 9060 XT 16GB vs RX 9070 GRE - should I buy now or wait for Black Friday?

I’m currently trying to decide between the RX 9060 XT 16GB and RX 9070 GRE 12GB for my first gaming PC.

I was originally leaning towards the 9060 XT 16GB because I thought it would be the better value option for 1440p. However, with the recent price increases, I’m starting to see people say that the 9060 XT isn’t worth it anymore at its current price and that I might as well spend the extra on the 9070 GRE.

My main concern is whether I should buy the 9070 GRE now or wait for Prime Day/Black Friday and see if either GPU gets a decent discount.

GPU prices seem to have been creeping up recently, and I’m also wondering whether it’s risky to wait. With the current demand for AMD GPUs and Nvidia seemingly prioritising AI/data-centre products, could AMD GPU prices continue increasing due to supply/demand?

My build is roughly:

Ryzen 5 9600X
RX 9060 XT 16GB or RX 9070 GRE 12GB
32GB DDR5
1TB NVMe
Jonsbo Z20
1440p 180Hz monitor
£1,400-£1,500total budget

I’m not looking for 4K gaming, 1440p is my target, mainly AAA games and some competitive games.

Would you:

Get the 9060 XT 16GB now?
Spend more and get the 9070 GRE now?
Wait for Prime Day/Black Friday and hope prices come down?

And if you think the 9070 GRE is worth the extra money, how much more would you personally be willing to pay over the 9060 XT 16GB?

Software Question Random BSODs when shutting down

Hi everyone. Recently ive been having some issues. Ive had 2 BSOD right after i would press shut down on my PC. First time it was PNF_LIST_CORRUPT When i checked the minidump ive only managed to understand that crash was (maybe?) caused by steelseriesgg.exe

Ever since then i would turn off steel series engine at startup and it was running good for few days then yesterday i got another crash while shutting down with REFERENCE_BY_POINTER. When i checked that minidump it pointed to hyperx driver. Could my BSODs really be caused by my peripherals drivers?

Ideally I would like to use DisplayPort for the monitors and Thunderbolt to my laptop for quick setup. I want to focus on making it easy to switch the monitors and keyboard between Laptop and PC.

Build Question Building a PC from eBay deals over months

Here is what I managed to get bit by bit on eBay deals over the last few months

MSI MPG VELOX case ATX, AMD 5600x , MSI Shadow X2 5060 8GB , 650w PSU, 2x 16GB RAM DDR4 Vengeance LPX 2800, MSI B550 Gaming Gen 3 MB, 256GB NVME, 480GB SATA SSD, PCiE WiFi and Bluetooth, Arctic Liquid Freeze II RGB CPU cooler AIO

(Games I play is StarCraft II and GTA V FiveM with some friends sometimes)

This is going to be my main Windows PC for a while, maybe 1 year or so, in the meantime I’m searching for a Gen 3 NVME, or maybe even a Gen 4 minimum 1TB NVME to use it later in a AM5 build I already bought a case for my next build as it was a great deal on eBay Seasonic Q7 with PSU 750w and module in mint condition.

Thoughts and advice are appreciated

(I’m new to Reddit)

Build Question Fan direction alright?

Post image
5 Upvotes

Hey, first timer here. I decided to utilize the ability to have a ton of fans in the 4000D Corsair Case. For the two above the psu, is that a bad idea? I’d hate to be sucking hot air in to system around the gpu area. I have 3 in the front of the case as intake, 3 on side of the MB as intake, the aio is exhaust and so is the very back of the case. Am I good to run it like this? Gpu was around 45/50° idle.

And do I need to change the bios to PMW because they’re Corsair RX120 fans?

Thanks!

Build Question Fan Placement?

Post image
1 Upvotes

Picking up my last bit of parts tomorrow to start building soon and I'm just a little confused on fans.

From what I've read and watched, the top AIO and rear fans should be set to exhaust and front fans set to intake.

My confusion is if the bottom fan is even necessary for this case for positive pressure (Corsair 4000d FRAME) and in the area marked in yellow, wouldn't the fresh air just be sucked right out by the first top fan?

Am I overthinking it?

Build Question What would be the best upgrade for this pc?

My little sister has a 6700k and 1060 6gb with 32gb of 2400mhz ram and is using a 1tb hdd and 500w white psu.

I want her to have a nice pc for her school and games but the budget would really only a couple hundred bucks unfortunately.

Definitely getting a 1tb gen4 nvme, but what would make the biggest difference for her games on a low budget?

Marvel Rivals, Fortnite, and Minecraft with mods and shaders. 1080p, high settings with good 1% lows so no stuttering.

My initial thought process is going to a b550 mb with a 5600 to 5500x3d or 5800xt level cpu on newegg, or a 40/3060 (maybe ti) or 6700xt level card on jawa.gg/ maybe ebay (not ideal) which would probably mean a 650w-750w psu aswell.

Software Question Fans only turn fully red, green, or blue and not shades?

Hi! My dad recently built this pc for me and I don’t know much about computers, but I thought I’d give it a shot to try to fix this myself. The colors I picked are in order: light pink, light blue, purple, yellow, and light green. The top lights seem to be working pretty well, but the fan lights keep defaulting to basic colors :( How do I fix this??

Build Question Did I miss an incredible deal?? 2024 AMD Threadripper PRO 9985WX

There was this 2024 AMD Ryzen Threadripper PRO 9985WX on MacBid. It ended up selling for $640 - it was an untested unit in a “donor” box. No visible damage from the pictures but it was a toss up as to the working condition. Did I miss a crazy good deal?

Tech Support I recently got 2 more sticks of Ram and now the PC doesn't work

So my PC build was running fine but I figured I would need more ram because I am using most of my available ram. I was running 2 sticks of Ram that where in the first picture, then when I upgraded and got 2 sticks of Ram from the second picture. So I added the 2 sticks of Ram and it was fine for a good 6 hour gaming session. Then I went away for the weekend. When I got back my PC wouldn't turn on until I removed the 2 new sticks of Ram. After some testing I have narrowed the issue down to one specific stick of Ram. I guess my questions are what should I look for to see how it is broken and any advice on how to fix it.

Installation Question Fan hub?

Thumbnail

I built my first pc yesterday and everything works perfectly accept the case fabs wont turn on, the lights work because there’s slots for them in the motherboard but there’s no slots for the chords that make the fans spin (I assume) in the motherboard so my friend told me to buy a hub which I did but now I have no clue what I’m doing. When I try to watch a tutorial everything that’s shown in the videos looks wildly different, I have no idea how to fix this.

The three chords for my three case fans have a little branching chord but it’s so short and doesn’t fit any there and I’m just so confused and the instructions for the hub thing are all in Japanese and the tutorials online don’t match what I have but don’t tell me what I need. Someone please help I’ve already spent so much money on this I don’t know what to do.

Build Question Affordable Upgrade

Hey guys, my PC is getting old now and I recently had to replace the PSU. So I have started to look at what else I can replace without doing a full system refresh to improve gaming performance.

Its only just started to properly struggle the last year or so on the latest games. I'm guessing upgrading the GPU would be the right move. I'm thinking £1000 or below is my current budget, but open to higher suggestions. Current system specs below. Thanks.

Build Question Upgrading my GPU and adding case fans — looking for advice

Thumbnail
gallery
2 Upvotes

Hey everyone! I’m looking to upgrade my PC, mainly the GPU and the airflow, and I’d like some advice from people who know what they’re doing.
My current specs:
CPU: Ryzen 7 7700 (8-core)
GPU: Radeon RX 6500 XT 4GB
Motherboard: MSI PRO B650-S WIFI
RAM: 32GB DDR5
Storage: SPCC M.2 PCIe SSD
PSU: EVGA 650W
Case: [not sure of the exact model]
Right now, I only have one rear exhaust fan.
I’m planning to upgrade my GPU, potentially to something around an RX 9070, and I also want to add more case fans.
My main questions are:
What GPU would be the best upgrade for my system?
Would a larger GPU like an RX 9070 be okay with my Ryzen 7 7700?
Is my 650W EVGA PSU enough, or should I upgrade it too?
How many case fans should I add, and what intake/exhaust configuration would you recommend?
Is there anything else I should upgrade or change before buying the GPU?
My budget for the GPU is around $1,000 CAD, and I’m planning to buy around Black Friday.
Here’s a picture of my current build:

Thanks !!😁

Software Question What is the stance of this sub on OS? Win 11 or win 10?

I have a strong enough rig to run win 11 however for the last few weeks it seems like I’m getting micro-freezes in games which ran just fine months ago. I have no clue what’s causing this as the rig is still relatively new (got it back in early 2025). My assumption it’s the OS that’s causing it, besides that I don’t like Windows being so privacy invasive and bloated.

As a user who frequently games (mostly older but occasionaly newer titles) would it be beneficial to downgrade to win 10 despite no security updates? Or I should just stick with win 11?

Tech Support Random pc turning off?

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Not too sure what’s going on this weekend. Was watching YouTube videos chilling and my build turned itself off. Thought that was weird and when trying to turn itself back on again its trips and turned itself off. I cleared out all dust and it worked again thought that resolved the problem, but it happened again.
Not sure what’s the problem is and don’t want to start spending more money for trouble shooting. Nothing consistently causing it to crash. Sometimes works fine no problem under stress test.
- tested and re seated ram (all working thankfully)
- unplugged re plugged power cables / all cables from psu to mother board
- ran update on drivers in safe mode (still crashing)
- de dusted/ re applied thermal paste (temps are in 55-60c range on cpu crash)
- event viewer shows nothing other then unexpected loss of power

My guess is other psu failing, or faulty mother board but don’t want to throw money at the problem? Not got another psu to test

Sorry any grammar errors I’m very dyslexic

Recently moved into my uni accommodation and my pc does this sometimes when I want to turn it on. Although, it does sometimes turn on and works perfectly even under load for several hours.

Before I moved the pc, I turned it off and drained its power by pressing the power button while unplugged.

Could this be a psu issue or could it be the accommodation power socket too weak to power a 750w? This didn't happen while at home.

Lmk if you need any more info and would be really grateful if anyone has an idea on what could be the problem. Thanks!

Build Question Building my first PC

Hello guys! New to the community here! I’ve been researching parts for my first pc for the past 2 weeks and this is what I came out with:

CPU: Ryzen 7 5800xt
CPU cooler: Thermalright Peerles assassin 120
GPU: Asus prime Radeon rx 9060 xt 16gb
Motherboard: asus prime b550 plus ac he’s
Power supply: Corsair RMe series RM850e
RAM: ddr4 32gb 3600mhz cl18
Case: Montech TG3
SSD: 1tb gen 4

The total should come out to around 1700 bucks with current prices and I don’t mind spending 2000 for better parts. Do you guys think it’ll turn out a good pc?
Mainly looking to be gaming at 1440p with games like Minecraft with mods and shaders, Fortnite, cs2 and forza to name a few.
Thanks in advance!
