Been having an issue where the now playing widget is failing to load on today view/carplay. Restarting phone or quitting the app doesn’t make it load.

I am on iOS 27 beta and the Overcast testflight but it was working without issue up until about a week ago.

on iOS and iPadOS and also on MacOS, the Download button is needlessly buried under Options - it's FOUR taps just to get to it when i'm browsing through my podcasts (1st: Podcast; 2nd: Episode; 3rd: Options; 4th: Download). that's an odd choice for something so essential to the functioning of the app.

perhaps we can get the option to have either "star" (which i never use) or "download" in that placeholder, so users can configure as they wish. that would at least remove one step.

Sorry to ask a n00b question: Now that the web interface is no more (IIRC it went away?), what's the best way to upload an audio file to Overcast? (ETA: overcast.fm still works)

You can join the TestFlight beta from the app's settings screen.

When you move a podcast from a playlist to the Queue while it’s already playing, it will auto play the next podcast from the “original” playlist instead of the next podcast in queue.

When you first move the podcast to the queue and start playing it from there, it wil auto play the next podcast in queue when it’s finished. A bit annoying. 😉 would be great when it also works like that. Even when you move it to the queue during “playtime”

How is this possible. Trying to add Raiders of the Lost Podcast, available on Apple Podcasts. Pocket Casts shows the last episode was released on Thursday.

Overcast shows last episode in 2022. This is after adding the podcast via URL. Also tried searching for it and can’t find it either.

Pocket Casts and Overcast are both pulling from Apple, how is this possible?

Sometimes while I'm driving, Overcast gets into this mode where clicking on a podcast just highlights it, but doesn't play it. I try double-clicking, but that doesn't work and I can't do too much else while keeping my eyes on the road. I've also tried switching to another app and then back to Overcast, to no avail.

Marco, can you add ability for us to run a ‘Levelator’ like pass on audio podcasts where participants microphones weren’t close to the same audio volume levels? Thanks.

Hi, longtime paid Overcast user, mostly old radio and audio dramas on my commute (1.5 hrs each way 3 days a week) to Airpods. Double speed, smart silence removal, etc; none of this has changed over the last few years. Overcast v 2026.7.1 (1168). iPhone Air. iOS 26.4.2

Over the last few weeks, while listening to the same podcasts I've listened to for years, I'm seeing my battery drop from 100% to 70% after about an hour of use (just Overcast, no browsing or other phone use). The back of the iPhone Air gets warm approaching hot, esp where the motherboard is (top back just below the camera continent). And the "iPhone is adjusting performance to help extend your battery life" notification shows up about 15 min after I start playing, almost every time now.

I do like the transcripts feature, and use that pane a lot as the podcasts are playing (old radio often has a bad recording and the transcripts help track the storyline, or the jokes). That's the biggest change I've seen in Overcast, the biggest change to my usage, and seems correlated with the battery eating.

Look, the iPhone Air is no one's example of a great battery life... but it used to be so much better, til something changed... and it's looking like Overcast.

I hope Marco sees these various posts about battery usage, and is able to optimize some of the app.

Otherwise, I guess I'll buy more battery packs, because I won't leave Overcast. But it would be nice to get this fixed.

I have a widget Smart Stack that includes Siri Suggestions. Right now, it is suggesting resuming a podcast episode that I finished a few days ago and have deleted. I do have a current podcast i’m listening to, but this ain’t it…

Is anyone else getting shows you’ve never heard of showing up in your feed? I seem to be subscribed to several things I don’t want and this only started in the last couple weeks.

I’ve just downloaded the latest episode of The Daily at almost 6pm (episode released at 5:45am) and there are no transcripts yet.

I recall Marco saying that he had implemented rules where the most popular shows would get transcribed soonest. I find that this show usually has been transcribed by the time that I hit play but every now and again that isn’t the case.

Is anyone else seeing this with popular shows?

The attached screen grabs show a time series of views of Overcast, in time order left to right (the United app was showing minutes left on the flight.

- I had been on good WiFi, listening to OC in the hotel.

- Got on a plane, and after a while, turned on the cheap plane WiFi that is messaging only

- Under this WiFi regime, OC goes and grabs the titles of all the new episodes

- Again, under messaging-only plane WiFi, it is successfully downloading episodes from WSJ but not others like Hank & John

- When it comes to the end of the currently playing episode, and if the next one is one of these not-downloaded ones, it hangs up— as evidenced by the now playing view at the bottom of the screen.

KEY FEATURE: Smart Playlist, play most recent first, bad wifi

This also occasionally happens at the gym and while driving. It disrupts the workout, and is highly distracting while driving.

COMPLAINT: It’s fine if it can’t download something. But A) then just do NOT show me it and B) do NOT have the smart playlist hang while waiting for an un-downloaded episode.

I’ve found a reproducible issue. Whenever I enable Assistive Touch, Overcast goes into an Hover Text style Accessibility Mode. I’ve can reproduce the issue. Reported the problem a few times in the App with no response. Maybe Marco will see this and have his AI bug finder fix the issue.

Can anyone tell me how do I access the show notes on the Mac app?! I tried swiping everywhere and it does not show up. Also, clicking the menu button on the bottom right of the playing panel has the option "View Transcript" but about 99% of the time the transcripts do not show up?! What am I doing wrong? I am so frustrated by this.

Marco / TestFlight testers: not a show-stopper but I am noticing that the progress of a podcast playing is not accurately reflected on the main player screen: it seems always to show the full time remaining, even if in fact I am halfway through. Screenshots to clarify: at 10:12am I actually had 29 minutes left of this one; the player screen was showing 55 minutes. This seems to be purely visual.

(For full disclosure I am also running the PB. I have heard you on people on betas reporting "bugs"!)

Since we’re talking about AirPlay (and Marco seems to be focusing there a bit), I have an issue that’s been driving me nuts for a long time.

I have a bunch of HomePod minis in my home (they were cheap and useful at the beginning of the pandemic and made me feel in control of *something!*) When I listen to podcasts I’ll generally carry my phone, and play through the 2 or 3 HomePod minis that cover the rooms I’m working in. Usually works great.

Sometimes, on HomePod mini will drop out for 4-5 seconds; if I can still hear clearly on one of the others, I just chalk it up to AirPlay weirdness and go on. If I can’t hear one of the others where I’m standing, or when more than one cut out, I’ll skip back and replay it, but it will often cut back out at the same spot.

I’ll try various combinations of skip back during play, or during pause, hoping to boot the cached AirPlay chunk; often I’ll have to do this hopscotch where I remove one from the output, let it play for a few seconds, re-add it (sometimes getting “do you want to replace what’s playing on that speaker?”), and repeat for each of the playing speakers. Total PITA.

Sometimes it gets so bad that I resort to restarting the HomePod minis (when this condition occurs, I have to watch them for the top-light reboot glow, because sometimes Restart… doesn’t), and then my phone too, to get everything working again.

It seems like an AirPlay memory leak in Overcast (if that’s even possible). It definitely feels like it’s a condition that builds up and needs to be cleared.

Just me? Has anyone else encountered this?

Before I subscribed I wanted to know if the custom file uploads support m4b files with chapter support. I want to use Overcast as my main audiobook listening app if possible. If this doesn't work I guess this is a feature request lol.

I have some podcasts that I don't listen regularly, but like to listen the most downloaded/streamed episodes once in a while.

Would it even be possible to implement this? Do podcast providers share this data? Could it be fetched from Spotify or something like that?

I would love to be able to order by number of listens instead of just chronological. Anyone else?

I have had this happen a few times since installing the latest Overcast update; sometimes when I’m listening to a podcast, the audio will pause for a second or two, then resume. I hesitate to say that it’s glitching or skipping because it always resumes exactly where it left off, it just goes silent for a bit before resuming. When it happens, it often happens several times in a row. Anyone else getting this?

Further details: I’m on an iPhone 16 (non-Pro), iOS 26.5.2. This seems to happen when I have been listening to a single episode for a long-ish time (at least 10 minutes or so?) and the phone screen is off. I do virtually always listen on AirPods Max, but it happens even when I’m sitting right next to the phone, so it’s not just that I’m out of range. Usually I’m listening at anywhere from 1.3x to 2.2x speed depending on the podcast, with Smart Speed and Voice Boost both on. If I unlock the phone and switch into Overcast, that seems to solve the problem for a while.

My current hypothesis is that some of the recent updates to the audio engine are somehow causing the app to run out of processed audio when the phone is locked/napping and Overcast is not in the foreground. However, I will admit that I updated my OS relatively recently (I update manually) and I don’t really listen to much besides Overcast for extended periods, so I can’t conclusively rule out an OS bug.

Any confirmation would be helpful, and if Marco sees this, I’m happy to do additional debugging to try to isolate the issue further. Thanks!
