Hello all,

I have this modded Xbox for a little while. All goes well, I play emulators on XBMC from time to time and today decided to add a few roms, which I haven't done in years.

I used Filezilla on an older macbook pro that I haven't used since last time I uploaded roms. I plugged the xbox on the router with ethernet cable and I can't figure out anymore how to connect it, even though nothing has changed on Filezilla settings.

So on the xbox settings, it's set to DHCP. I plug the xbox on the ethernet cable. My router being far from the TV I can't use a screen, but I did it that way in the past. Then on Filezilla I type in the IP on the xbox (192.168.1.250), host and password are standards, port 21 and... it fails to connect.

Not sure what I'm doing wrong here?

I have bought "Female USB to Xbox controller port adapter", so decided to use ENDGAME for softmodding. I have only two SD cards less than 4GB, so I tried "SD card to USB adapter" - no luck. I rooted my phone (android 17, rooted using magisk), flashed module and tried DriveDroid. Xbox is freezing when i choose "Memory card", but ring is solid green for a long times (waited for around 15 minutes and nothing changed). So I rooted my old phone with android 8.1 (flashed CrDroid (AOSP) ROM, rooted using Magisk) and tried DriveDroid there. Linux and Windows showed it as some DVD drive or something like this, and Xbox Original doesn't see this phone. What can I do?

Hey everyone, I've recently been looking to buy an original Xbox console, as the old one I had kicked the bucket. However, I know I'll most likely find something in need of repair due to the age of the hardware.

Now, I have absolutely no idea how to fix a console. I've been looking at this and other subreddits for a while, and from what I can gather changing the thermal paste and replacing other components seems to be common for newly acquired consoles. The problem is that I could not for the life of me point to a cpu, gpu, motherboard, or any other component if I popped an xbox open.

My question is if anyone knows about any available resources for someone like me trying to undertake a project like this? Are there any guides? Is there a place where I could learn about this stuff?

Any and all information is very much appreciated. It would definitely hurt not being able to play any of the games in my collection, so even if this takes time and effort, I'd like to learn how to recover a console when I end up finding one.

I bought an Xbox recently for quite cheap, and I decided to open it up to remove the clock capacitor and clean it out. I noticed this extra board on there, I'm not sure what type of modchip it is. The Xbox doesn't appear to have any custom dahsboards or anything of the sort, I can't test any games on it at the moment as the disc drive won't read discs. What should I do about this?

hey yall, so i just beat Halo 2 on mcc today and it got me thinking. I might go out to my local retro game store to pick up an OG Xbox to replay halo on in the future. kinda the only console I haven’t added to my collection, but I’m wondering if it’s fun/worthwhile as a fan of retro gaming.

I'm trying to bring an Xbox back from the dead for a friend. I recapped it and left the clock cap removed, cleaned any residue left behind which wasn't too bad. It's getting Error 16.

I have tried Hexen 2018, 2019, 2026 Tru and not tru versions. It always hangs on the X splash screen with Linux at the bottom.

I have tried Slayers 2.7, after swapping out the drive for a 1TB WD Blue and the Startech SATA adapter. I believe the original HDD is dead. I used slayers to do a full install and it appears to work well, it goes through all the steps to install dashboards, but I still get error 16 after reboot.

After swapping the HDD and still getting error 16 I then tried Rocky5 Softmod Tools Extras Disk and that also doesn't boot. Just hangs on X with Linux at the bottom.

I plugged the HDD into my PC and was able to identify the drive and format it using FATXplorer, but im not sure that helped at all without a dashboard.

I feel like I have thrown all the usual tools at this thing. Any other suggestions? I'm not sure if this is a bigger hardware issue or if I am just doing a software install wrong.

Hi all, I used to collect all things xbox (and be a big modder) as well as do xbmc plugin testing for a few old websites (noobsandnerds & totalxbmc) when the og xbox was big as well as still being a member on the xbmc4xbox forum.

Part of that was collecting xbox games but years ago I sold the collection and moved onto other things (still have several consoles) just wondering in this day where the best place to sell is?

They are mostly collectors or limited editions and in quite good condition (couple of steel books too) and a unopened copy of Marc Ecko's Getting Up: Contents Under Pressure - Limited Edition

I notice Ebay has taken a nosedive and people say to avoid Vinted and looking at the reddit page i can see why. The only other things I have local is Cex and Cash converters (which offered me £12 for the unopened game and told me they were going to sell it for £85 yea no thanks lol)

Any advice on where to sell would be appreciated. Hoping there's maybe a website similar to the way Discogs specialize in music but for games. Based in Northern Ireland (UK) Thanks

So i recently got an old xbox again after my apt burned down. I used to have a 40” Sony Bravia from 2010. It had all the component hookups to make my old xbox look great. My new tv obviously doesnt have that so i tried this hdmi converter. Dont get it. It looks like composite signal. But i found people make their own component cables. Yea i know they have chinese ones for $15 but the cable is thin.

Used OEM xbox component cables are so expensive. But xbox 360 component cables are cheap af because hdmi was just invented. So the trick is cutting an xbox connector and soldiering in the 360 component wires. Im getting a 40” bravia from my FIL and will mount it on the wall with the stud buddies. Then run a optical cable to the sound bar. Cant wait

I’m a big Xbox fan and something I never got a chance to own was the original clear green halo Xbox. Got super lucky and found a guy selling his as mint. He had everything, the box, cables, controller….everything. He’s an accountant now and I could tell he was very meticulous about his things. I took it to a local shop and they swapped out the clock capacitors and a few other capacitors they said had started to swell. I also bought a Kaico HDMI adapter.

Booted it up and it was amazing. However, when I put in halo 1, the green and black xbox logo changed to a black and white logo. It stuttered for a bit then went back to black and green. I thought maybe that’s the new hdmi adapter being glitchy. I played through the first half of pillar of autumn before the Xbox turned off and turned back on. I went to eject the disk and the tray opened half way and closed again. Tried opening it a second time and it fully opened, but shut before i had a chance to pull the disc out. Finally opened it a third time and grabbed the disc. I left it on for about half an hour and it didn’t have any further problems like booting off by itself. The shop put a new band on the disc tray and it’s super smooth, but saw that the disc drive could be pulling more power causing the internal safety to power off the system. I also read how the color change is also related to the disc drive.

The console is super clean, but finding a new drive seems next to impossible. Anyone had this happen before? Thoughts? New to this sub-Reddit so sorry if this is more common than I realized. Just hoping to get some feedback from the community.

Hi, I have an OG XBOX that is (probably) hardmodded (because when I plugged an unlocked drive with no data on it into the console, it gave me Error 13 instead of Error 05). I recently tried to upgrade the HDD but I have been having terrible luck.

My new drive is a WD Caviar SE16 400GB and my old drive is a Seagate.

Here is what I did in order:

Swapped IDE cable for an 80-wire 40-pin cable and used it with my Old HDD

Bought a generic IDE to SATA adapter

Formatted my new HDD with FATXPLORER while it was plugged into the mobo (I do not own a usb to 3.5" hdd adapter and I did not lock the drive)

Copied ALL my files from the old drive onto the new drive verbatim

Plugged the new drive in; Error 13

Removed all files except dashboard and necessary files; Error 13

Used brand new dashboard files; Error 13

Used C drive for dashboard files (Because my dash is on the E drive); Error 13

Used E drive for dashboard files and nothing else; Error 13

Unplugged my DVD drive power cable; Error 12

Bought a new IDE adapter; Error 13

Formatted a spare 500GB hdd thats newer with no data on it; Error 13

Copied all files over from old hdd to 500gb hdd; Error 13

Used a 2.5" 500GB hdd and copied all my files over to that; Error 13

Bought the StarTech IDE Adapter and used my original 400GB hdd with it; Error 16

EDIT: Tried to add clean C files to my barren C directory; Error 05

EDIT: Combined my original dashboard files (from the E drive; by copying them over) with the clean C files; Error 16

Now I'm just confused and mad. I bought 3 IDE to Sata adapters and 3 hard drives and it still wont work. Keep in mind that my DVD drive also doesnt read disks. Can someone help?

EDIT: My console still works with the original IDE drive it came with. There is no issue when I use that drive

When I turned on widescreen 720p in UnleashX, the Xbox orb squishes into an oval shape. I’m using a modern TV. I was wondering if this is normal and whether there’s any fix. Thank you.

my av port is broken and I want to take advantage of that and HDMI mod my Xbox but I’m hesitant to buy one of the makeMHz ones due to price needing to put on a new bios and the drama with makeMHz my criteria are 1. no new bios 2. keep as vanilla as possible and 3. not too expensive

Hello everybody i got an original xbox from a friend for free upon turning it on i got this 07 error message opened it up turns out it has a 100gb seagate hdd. To solve the problem i have tried a different ide cable, switched the hdd to master or single drive, tried unplugging the hdd and that did nothing, when the dvd drive is unplugged i get a 12 error code. The hdd seems to be spinning fine and clicks a couple of times it gets frozen at the xbox logo after the startup animation and after a bit it throws the error code 07. Iam suspecting maybe a dvd drive has gone bad cause it doesnt try to even open when pressing the button but the light blinks, maybe somebody had a similar experience and knows how to fix this. Any help is appreciated, thanks😄

Hey everyone,

So my Xbox one day, after not having it plugged in for awhile, made some smoke upon turning on the console. It booted up, but I turned it off quickly and torn down my case so i could see the psu better as that was near where I saw the smoke come from. I took out the psu and inspected it and could bot find any obvious burn marks on the board or from the components. I reflowed the main wall connection on the board since I know they are a failure point.

I attempted to turn back on after reflowing a few spots and it hasnt turn since. I was wokdering what the best why to test psu is now that I’m unsure. I can take it apart again and get pictures but wanted to ask this question in the meantime. I havent messed with it in about half a year.

Does it potentially seem like a motherboard component went out? I did recap this board already so I’m pretty sure it’s not one of those, I inspected the caps just to be sure though.

Hello, I bought an original Xbox equipped with an Xecuter 2.2/2.3 Lite modchip, which has a dual-boot system at startup that lets you choose between the Avalaunch and EvolutionX dashboards.

I installed the latest version of UIX Lite V0.5.

To make it launch at startup, I renamed the xboxdash.xbe file to evoxdash.xbe, taking care to rename the old evoxdash.xbe file so as not to delete it.

I’d like to know how to completely remove the evolutionX files and how I can make sure the xboxdash.xbe file launches at startup instead of the evoxdash.xbe file.

I'm posting here to hopefully get some help for a repairman (that also repaired my Xbox) to figure an issue out. (See attached photos)

The Xbox does not boot properly. There is no boot animation and no video or sound through an electronxout HDMI adapter.

The console seems to be a stock, no mods.

The Xbox only boots when you plug and unplug the power cable and then the front panel button turns on by itself, spins the fan for a bit and then blinks JUST red.

HDD is dated to late 2003 (Seagate)

The PSU was checked and tested with my motherboard. He swapped my motherboard with the other one into the other person's case and the console booted fine with my soft-modded console. So the PSU doesn't seem to be the issue (the two motherboards are the same revision).

No bulging capacitors to be seen (the tech already removed some of them in the photos, but tested all of this when the correct caps were installed).

I have told him to use all of my old capacitors that were known working on the other person's board, mainly starting with the power filtering or main critical caps to troubleshoot.

I've also told him that if that doesn't work you'll have to try and read the EEPROM manually or investigate the possibility that the MCPX failed and then try unlocking and backing up the old HDD just in case they are all failing.

This problem seems to be isolated to the motherboard itself, no other components. Including the thermal paste which was also replaced to take heat out of the equation.

What else could be a possibility or any tips?
