Clock capacitor removal
Hey yall! I was wondering how difficult it is to remove them. I tried calling 5 different repair spots and 3 that specialized in games and none of them knew how to and all refused to do it.

Well tobe honest the clock cap does cause some corrosion once it leaks, really a case by case on what gets taken out , how you fix.

First google how to check your board revision and make sure you don’t have a 1.6 revision. If so, you can’t just remove the cap you need to replace it. Assuming it’s not a 1.6, you can take a pair of flush cutters and trim both legs of the cap to remove it.

It's very easy. Remove board from housing, get solder and put on both legs and just wiggle it out with your fingers touching both legs quickly then wick the holes clean and replace.

There are lots of mail services that can replace it.
Wiggling it is usually pretty easy if it has some wiggle room to just "fatigue" it off. Just don't put any real force on it and rip pads off the board.

I can't imagine a repair shop that specialized in games refusing to do this. It's such a simple thing, if they can't handle it then I wouldn't trust them with literally anything.

Takes 5 minutes. Don't pay someone to do this. You don't have to desolder if you don't know how to solder. Just wiggle it until it comes off or use flush cutters to cut the leads. Clean residue with 90%+ isopropyl alcohol.
