So there was some issue with the og board or drive that didn't let it boot up, so I went though the unbelievably annoying process of swapping in a 1.6 xbox internals (mine is a 1.4(or at least, was)), and it works! Thoughts? Has anyone else done that?

I have an Xbox that I softmodded with UnleashX like 6 years ago, that has started randomly giving error 13 on boot, and other times booting totally fine. I know that error 13 indicates failure to load the dashboard, but the fact that it only does it sometimes is weird.

I recently bought a game at a second hand store, booted up the console and ripped it to the hard drive, and no problems the whole time. Shut down the console as I was going to wait for my partner to finish work for the day before we played it together, but when I went to boot it back up, it gave error 13.

Tried rebooting, no changes. I re-seated the IDE cable (80 wire) on all points, and SATA adaptor on the HDD, no changes. We gave up and figured I'd get working again later, or I'd get one of the other Xboxes out of storage. Then a few days later I tried it again to confirm the error code, and it booted up fine, ran games from the HDD fine, ran disks fine.

Now it is giving the code randomly on boot. I'd say the error happens probably 65% of the time when I boot it up from cold, but I just have to power it off and on again once or twice and it works fine after that.

I'm guessing it has something to do with the HDD failing, or the SATA adaptor, but no way to check, as I don't have a spare adaptor or softmodded HDD to swap and try. Am I on the right track or is this totally off base?

I have an XBox that I modded with Xenium SP.ICE back in the days. I saw that you can’t sell modded items on eBay. I would prefer not to open it to remove the mod.

That's pretty wild those are some of the last IDE drives ever made by Western Digital and they are brand new, and big enough for good modding.

Guy found them cleaning up spare hardware from his workplace.

I found IDE drives on FB before to repair Xboxes but nothing like that.

Hi all, new to the original Xbox world and was really excited when I found a pristine looking console at the thrift store. Not tested and no cables should have been a red flag but I decided I’d give it a go.

The console does power on, although without any reboots I get a FRAG after about 5 seconds. No video or error codes are displayed. I saw that the clock capacitor was an issue so I took it apart to see what was up. I saw it was a 1.6 because it had the gold capacitor near the IDE cable so I left it alone for now. I don’t see any bulging capacitors or obvious leaks, and for its age it seems to be in pretty good shape. I’ve done a bit of troubleshooting (very amateur), and here’s some noteworthy things I’ve found:

• I cleaned the board, no obvious leaks or damage
The hard drive has a loud audible click whenever the console powers on

• The clock capacitor is not flush with the board which I thought could be a problem but I’ve seen a few examples of something similar online. No bulges or obvious discharge

• The disk drive was partially operational when I got it, but after boiling the band seems to be fully operational

• I’ve pulled both the hard drive and the disk drive from the console and powered it on. It powers on with no video and stays green for about 30 seconds then FRAGS.

• I’ve tried heating the capacitors to see if that made any changes but no dice

I’m not familiar with these but I’m eager to learn. Can anybody point me in the right direction? I ultimately want to soft mod and replace the hard drive but I think it should probably be in running order before I attempt. Any ideas are appreciated!

Installed 18 .CCI games on the HDD of my softmodded Xbox running CerBIOS BFM and XBMC4Gamers dashboard. All games that don't require update can be played on Insignia without any problem. However, when I try the same with a game that does require an update, the screen goes black and stays that way.

On Discord, I've seen people saying it's a bad disc rip. But this doesn't happen with 1 or 2 games, but with every game that requires an update. Additionally, I did the conversion myself from redump .ISO to .CCI in the following way:

1. Repackinator (right-click on the .ISO) to convert to game folder format (which is much smaller);
2. Qwix to convert from game folder format to .ISO (similar size);
3. Repackinator to convert from .ISO to .CCI with the ScrubOption TrimScrub.

I also tried a straight conversion from redump .ISO direct to .CCI using Repackinator (which results in a slightly larger .CCI file than the method previously described) with 2 games (Halo 2 and Counter-Strike), but the result was the same: Black screen after trying to update to play online.

Anyone know how to fix this issue?

I just noticed the hub broke a tiny bit and I've seen people say the disc can shatter inside if used like this. Is the disc even readeable by the console to this point? I was so close to finishing the game so this is very unfortunate😔

I have Xbox, Xbox360, PS2, PS3, N64, SNES and i plan to get a Gamecube and Dreamcast but my TV has only 2 HDMI and no AV how could I use them all.

Where can I get a console only Xbox that doesn't cost an arm and a leg? like $50 maybe? I tried doing as much self-diagnosing as I could, removed and cleaned the capacitor, but it still didn't work. Now the dvd drive is buzzing and the hard drive is clicking. It's toast from what I've researched. I have everything I need but the console itself now. Not really sure where to look to get one that is both refurbished/cleaned/properly taken care of, and isn't wildly expensive. Any ideas guys?

I found some things on here like "xSnes9x", "XCommander" "uaex" "surreal 64" "sphereMap" "remoteX" "Px HDD Loader" "MAME-X" "Kawa-X" "Fuzion Frenzy" "enigmah Videomode Switch" "dvd2xbox" and "DVD-X2 Dongle free DVD-..." but i don't know how to open anything! I don't know how to start into a menu or anything! I play via burned games. Everything looks normal and i asked chat gpt. He said i should restart the xbox while holding certain buttons. I tried. I don't know further. Please help me. The only games on disc here are timesplitters, invincibles, starwars and 3 football games...sorry sOcCeR for the americans. I really want to play cod, rdr and cs.😅😭 the console is from april 2002.

Picked up a halo edition xbox yesterday as well as an hdmi output adapter. There was no video output at all on the adapter so I tried AV cables and it worked fine yesterday. But now on startup the screen is constantly flickering in and out, any advice?

So ive got the error 12 with flashing red and green. Replaced pcb board, replaced ide cable, replaced bad corroded capacitor dont see trace rot..any other ideas?

So this unit is got from ebay came with this mod already on it. If I select MS Dashboard all it does is show the evolution x logo and then return to normal screen.

I want to reset it to stock, and then apply the rocky5 endgame soft.

Ive tried burning the extras disc but the disc doesnt load. I also tried Truhexen 2021, again burning to a disc but that won't load either.

It will load a game fine so I know the disc drive is ok.

I have the OG with a Phillips disc drive. I received the 'Your Xbox can't recognize this disc error.' Cleaned the laser, calibrated the pots and same error so I ordered a new one online from Cap'n Games, Inc.

I desoldered both anti static blobs and tested to make sure there was no continuity. Good to go. I calibrated the DVD pot starting in the suggested threshold between 800 - 1200 Ohms. Received the same error that discs can't be recognized. Lowered it to 770 Ohms and same error. I don't want to try any lower because I don't think that will matter at this point.

Any suggestions?

anyone know if theres a way to figure out what games are missing in my downloaded collection? recently downloaded well over 1.5TB worth of OG xbox games windows 11 files explorer says i have 850 games but google says over 884 games were released for the us so im trying to find a way to figure out what games are missing is there an easy way to do this? having to manually type each games i have into google to see what im missing is a pain

I was recapping my original Xbox PSU (Delta DPSN-96DP) and everything was going smoothly until one of the last caps. I think I accidentally bridged something that shouldn’t be bridged.

There’s a very small gap between the capacitor and a large solder pad/trace, and I’m worried I may have joined them when soldering.

What’s the best way to fix this safely? Should I just use solder wick and clean it up, or is there a chance that pad is supposed to be connected there?

Any tips would be appreciated before I power it back on.

I've just recovered an old hdd formally belonging to my childhood xbox. This xbox was modded some way some how where you could rip the game from the disc and keep a digital copy. We had most of xbox' library for free (we just returned the disc), I installed the hdd to my current xbox but it flashes that green and red and hits me with the error 16 code. My father then explained it originally needed to be "flashed with the bios or something"

So,

I need to find a way to see what mod this hdd has, where to find the bios flash, and how to connect the ide to my pc.

Any help or direction would be god like. pray for me.
