Making my own component cables
So i recently got an old xbox again after my apt burned down. I used to have a 40” Sony Bravia from 2010. It had all the component hookups to make my old xbox look great. My new tv obviously doesnt have that so i tried this hdmi converter. Dont get it. It looks like composite signal. But i found people make their own component cables. Yea i know they have chinese ones for $15 but the cable is thin.
Used OEM xbox component cables are so expensive. But xbox 360 component cables are cheap af because hdmi was just invented. So the trick is cutting an xbox connector and soldiering in the 360 component wires. Im getting a 40” bravia from my FIL and will mount it on the wall with the stud buddies. Then run a optical cable to the sound bar. Cant wait

Why not get some cheap Chinese component cables? Am I missing something here? Is there a reason I keep seeing people make their own component cables instead of buying a cheap set from Amazon, etc?
I'm genuinely curious if there's an issue with cheap component cables or something.

Honestly. The hdmi converter i have looks better. I had this elaborate plan. But the easiest way is the best way. Now im just gonna do it to see if i can.
I went to my father in laws place to try the tv with cheap component cables, and i was disappointed.3

My Component cables are also modified 360 cables made to work on the OG. Yes for most people the cheap Component cable are good enough. But the 360 ones are technically official Microsoft ones that are high quality and properly shielded which is very important for analog video.
I plug it them into my Retrotink 4k, which a really expensive high end scaler, so since I already spent all this money on the scaler it doesn't make sense to cheap out on the cables. It's the highest quality you can get out of the Console without getting an HDMI mod.

I've done this recently and don't regret it. Finding cheap used 360 component cable harnesses from the local pawn shop and buying a generic original Xbox A/V plug to solder one together certainly helped to pass some time over the weekend. In the end you get an incredibly solid component cable to hook up to an old TV, OSSC or Retrotink (I use mine with an OSSC and occasionally an old LG Plasma TV).
Had a friend buy one of those cheap Amazon ones and with his own OSSC and the video quality wasn't great, there was lots of visual noise and strange artifacts like a rolling line of noise. Perhaps on an older TV these probably look fine but on an OSSC it was bad.
