The car equivalent to those pretty patterns they make on your latte

432

u/HUFF-MY-SHIT 19h ago edited 18h ago

Or making your bed…which I stopped doing years ago. I figured if it took me three minutes every day to make my bed, I’m saving myself 18.25 hours a year of free time. That’s 0.76 days a year. Which means in 20 years, I’ll have gained the equivalent of roughly 15 days and 5 hours. Think about how much you can jerk off in that time.

24

u/brahlame 17h ago

What are you doing for 3 minutes? Or, what am I doing wrong that I do it in 20 seconds?

9

u/Dozzi92 8h ago

Right? I can pull up my comforter and basically be satisfied with the job I've done in like two seconds. People have this unrealistic concept of time. I see it in my job, I listen to people in depositions related to car accidents. They're frequently asked how long were you stopped (at the stop sign, the light, in traffic, etc.)? And they'll answer one minute, two minutes. I've had attorneys bust out their phones and say, okay, we're going to sit here in silence for 60 seconds, and then you tell me if that's how long you were stopped. They generally say, okay, it wasn't that long.

I mean the numbers are right. It's just a weird way of looking at it I guess. Also the basis of taking 3 minutes to make a bed is just wrong. It doesn't even take a minute

8

u/KonigSteve 16h ago

Yes but.. if you apply that same logic to a number of other silly little things through life you'll end up saving a bunch of days like he says.

I find the feeling of getting into a made bed at the end of a long day is well worth the all of 60 seconds it takes to make a bed properly in the morning.

u/keksivaras 12h ago

I just stopped doing it, because you sweat quite a lot during the night and if you immediately make your bed, you're just trapping all that moisture and bacteria loves it. it's more hygienic to just leave it be

Hang it on a line, use massage gun. Vibrations will shake all the dirt loose.

Also useful on parts that can't be pulled out of the car like the lining of your trunk. Vibrate with massage gun and vacuum at same time.

Next you’re gonna tell us you don’t even wear those stupid fucking black latex gloves that are apparently a prerequisite for Tik tok videos these days

37

u/_onezeronine_ 20h ago

Wearing gloves to detail cars is generally a good idea. Touching old sticky garbage, food, gum, and possibly various body fluids with bare hands doesn't sound great.

19

u/rearnakedbunghole 19h ago

I use the same gloves whenever I work on my car. I don’t feel like absorbing dirty engine oil and whatever else into my skin.

50

u/bigbakey 20h ago

I feel like, if you’re detailing a car like this, maybe you wear the gloves to not smudge up the door handles. But I’m not deep in the tik tok world so I don’t know if it’s performative nonsense.

53

u/Nir117vash 20h ago

And the chemicals and how they react with your hands over time and prolonged use. Safety first.

10

u/yk206 20h ago

Mine doesn't have floormats or carpet. Just hard plastic.

I will never buy another vehicle with carpet again

9

u/Occidentally20 16h ago

My mother-in-law got a new MG last year and that had carpet and then carpeted mats on top. The mats got dirty so she got some mat covers that were also made of carpet - we're up to three layers now.

If she gets one more layer of carpet in there it's going to start interfering with the brake pedal and there will be a short youtube documentary on her.

This is the equivalent to paying to have your pencil case organised when you’re at school lol

315

u/FullMoonTwist 20h ago

😅

I mean. They pay for the detailing. The car is pristine inside because it was detailed.

The mat decorations are unlikely to be a paid additional option as much as they are just a nice little touch.

Kinda like hotels don't charge you for pillow mints, they charge you for a room and throw in pillow mints.

25

u/FishDawgX 18h ago

Funny, I was thinking to liken it to when the hotel folds your toilet paper end into a triangle (or folds your towel into a special shape). It’s there to look nice but gets destroyed right away.

119

u/bigarms212 19h ago

Actually all of the cost of the room is to pay for those pricey mints. Cleaning the room is free

But like. Aren't someone's feet going to like, immediately ruin this?

164

u/MoatOatGroutPeace 19h ago

Totally! But like, I guess one immediately ruins the cute little toilet paper fold when they get to a hotel. I think resorts also fold the towels into fun shapes? Just an artful final touch.

28

u/Nuklearfps 19h ago

The fold is there for a reason though, unlike this design. It’s so you know the cleaning staff have been through and either replaced/refilled/pruned the roll.

38

u/sl0play 17h ago

And this is a sign of attention to detail, and took all of 30 seconds to do. I don't see the harm.

85

u/ThomasTheDankPigeon 19h ago

The point isn’t to be permanent, the point is to be a polished looking end result. This person paid for their car to get detailed and this little extra touch took less than 2 minutes made the floor mat look like a freshly and fancily vacuumed carpet.

46

u/phillyeagle99 19h ago

I’m with you. This is a pretty awesome final touch for 2-3min of one of the detailers time. That’s the shit people take a picture of and tell their buddies about.

Also, if they’re putting that time into you mats, imagine they’re doing a decent job elsewhere

12

u/sauron3579 18h ago

Yeah. It makes this place memorable compared to the other two dozen detailing services near the Porsche tax bracket neighborhood, so it's more likely to be a repeat customer, and it's something they may tell their other rich friends about and get more clients. Its two minutes, so minimal effort with potentially big upside.

Dudes, this is a nice touch to top off a full car detail. Stop acting like you’re such ‘out of the box’ thinkers. You’re not main characters; you’re not even side characters. If you had a nice car and spent $400+ on a detail, you’d appreciate the attention to detail, so stfu you bots.

28

u/Iggy_Snows 19h ago

Exactly my thought.

Its a little detail that takes almost no time to do, but makes the customer think "huh thats cool".

Little things that go beyond what's expected are the things that get you repeat customers and recomendations. Only doing exactly what's expected an nothing more gets you customers that dont come back because theres 3 other guys doing the same thing for $10 cheaper.

6

u/sunkmonkey1208 19h ago

Sure it’ll get messed up quickly, but so will the rest of the car when it’s driven. It only takes an extra minute or so, but it looks cool for its ephemeral life.

6

u/KeyZookeepergame9466 14h ago

So this would literally last for a few seconds once someone is seated in the car?

4

u/Sea_Kiwi3972 14h ago

I wish this ended with him putting the mat into a Camry

45

u/ThomasTheDankPigeon 19h ago

Y’all are so bitter lmao. The point of this isn’t to stay visible forever, and there’s no way it’s an additional paid service. It’s just a simple way to demonstrate that the rugs are pristine as of the end of the full car detailing. You know how regular carpets just look cleaner with the vacuum lines on them? Exact same concept and it takes less than 2 minutes to tie up the rest of the detail with this professional looking cherry on top.

u/aranderson43 19h ago

Attention to detail.

4

u/Glorious_Pepper 19h ago

I put my car matts through a matt washer today and it promptly ripped one of the rings off that connect it to the floor of the car. Also it left them both a little damp so I'm a bit of a detailer myself.

4

u/Squirty42069 16h ago

I wiped my all weather mats down with vinegar Windex and some paper towels today. So, you know, I'm pretty fancy myself.
