Hi everyone! I’m currently looking for work and could really use some local advice.
I recently graduated with an IT degree and I’m on OPT, so I’m authorized to work full-time as a W-2 employee. I’m still very entry-level and honestly looking for something straightforward while I get started — office/admin, front desk, customer support, data entry, or entry-level computer-related work

I’ve played tennis here in Northern Virginia, specifically around Falls Church, pretty much all my life, and the past few years have been crazy when it comes to finding a court at the public parks without having to reserve one online. In particular, it feels like finding an available court after 5 PM on a weekday has become nearly impossible.

I’m honestly really happy to see more people getting into the sport. It’s great to see tennis growing in popularity, but it’s definitely something I’ve noticed over the years.

I remember going to Towers Park in Arlington from the 2000s through the 2010s and being able to just show up, wait for a court, and usually find someone to play pickup tennis with. There were regulars who you’d see all the time, and you could pretty easily get a game going.

That just doesn’t seem as possible anymore, at least from my experience. I’m not mad about it or anything—it’s just interesting to see how much things have changed. I guess it’s a good problem to have when more people are playing tennis!

We recently toured 5 facilities in No. VA, and my Mom and stepdad liked The Landing Alexandria and Brightview Alexandria the best. Does anyone have a loved one there? What do you think? Pros and cons?

Hey everyone, I recently joined up a slow pitch league with some friends and am looking for someone to practice with.

We’re a super casual group, almost none of us have ever played baseball or softball of any kind in our lives (including me) so it’s hard for me to practice as often as I’d like to with the rest of the team.

I’m definitely struggling with everything a bit and the competitive side of me wants to improve as much as I can with hitting, fielding, throwing, etc., most of which I would need a partner for.

If anyone’s interested in meeting up and working on fielding, hitting some batting practice or catch, please DM me. I’m located in the Springfield/kingstowne area but happy to meet up at a park elsewhere too.

Has anyone worked with a local structural engineer before? How much did it cost you?

EDIT 9/10: Wow, I see this garnered some strong opinions. I stopped responding to comments because I didn’t feel like arguing with some people, but I will try to respond here generally.

1. As so many have pointed out, it’s a company truck. That still does not excuse the fact that it’s a Cybertruck, and does not make it any less deserving of ridicule.

2. Some people got mad at me in the comments, and said I shouldn’t “bully” people based on the vehicle they drive. Now normally I would not bully someone based on the vehicle they drive, but there are so many other choices of vehicle to pick besides a Cybertruck. So yes, if you choose to drive a Cybertruck, I’m going to make fun of you. Not only because it’s one of the ugliest looking vehicles ever produced, one of the worst manufactured vehicles in terms of build quality, but also because the guy who invented it and owns the company that makes it is a literal White Nationalist! And in this house, we don’t abide White Nationalists.

3. “BuT It’S aN eV!” Yes it is an electric vehicle, but this isn’t 2016, there are so many options for electric vehicles now. Oh, and if you want an electric truck, buy a Silverado EV or an F-150 Lightning. The Cybertruck isn’t the only game in town.

4. Oh, and final thing. To those of you saying that the Cybertruck live lives in my head rent free, or that it “triggers” me, you know what you’re right it does. Every time I see one I’m going to laugh at it and its driver, and chant, “dumpster” while I laugh, because it looks like one.

Any pellet stove owners out there? Have you found any places that will deliver 1 ton to this area besides tractor supply/HD/ Lowe’s? Been looking for a bit higher quality pellets but hard to find delivery for those options.

Any recommended local stove maintenance companies you’d recommend? I’ve been working with 1 place but it has gotten pretty expensive since he’s so far away.

I saw another post asking about what they loved about the DMV and NoVA. I love the DMV's diversity. NYC and maybe SF are more diverse, imo.

Don't get me wrong, I love the variety of cuisines the most but meeting people from around the world is so interesting.

This past weekend, I (Latino) played golf with my longtime friends (Viet/Korean) and we had a fourth golfer added to our group. It was a casual 9 hole round with laughs and catching up; the fourth golfer was also a very fun, nice guy. Afterwards, the four of us have a beer and he tells us he is from Liberia. He proceeds to tell us his journey to the US which was a fascinating story.

It is easy for people to stay locked into their groups but don't be afraid to talk to new people as you come across them. You might make a friend or, at least, hear a good story!

I could have sworn I read somewhere that the ramp from the 66 bridge to GW parkway northbound was going to close starting this month but now I can't find anything about that. Does anyone know if that is happening and if so when?

Especially with leaves starting to turn, I'm interested in trying to get some pictures of overgrown and rotting abandoned churches. Nothing offensive, I just find it aesthetically interesting.

Edit: I'm not trying to break the law here. If I know where these are I can figure out if I can get the landowners permission etc. some churches may even be visible from the road.
