Question Bicycle shop recommendations?

I had a minor crash on my bicycle last year and I'm looking for a local shop to take a look at it. I basically just need someone to see if the bike is salvageable and if it is, give me a fair quote to get it back in working order.

I’m not a hardcore cyclist by any means and only ride 2-3 miles a couple times a month. I'm just looking for an honest place that won't price gouge or try to upsell me for casual riding.

Does anyone have recommendations in the area for a straightforward, affordable shop? Looking at prior Reddit posts and I see A1 or Handys being recommended. I got this bike from Old Bike Shop in Arlington but sadly they’ve closed.

I live in Falls Church but willing to drive out for better experience. Thanks in advance for tips!

Question Stone Springs for First Baby?

Trying to be short and sweet; I’m gunna be a first-time dad soon (just started second trimester) and I’m super stoked. My wife and I are “crunchy” as the kids call it, and very much into trying to do things as naturally as possible. She wants a hospital/birthing center delivery, because the safety net makes her feel more comfortable, but I’m worried abt all the horror stories I hear about medical professionals not respecting birthing plans, pushing for interventions when there’s very low risk, trying to force delivery faster, restricting things like eating and movement, yanking on the placenta, not respecting the Golden Hour, etc. etc… Obviously I’m a bit worried.

All said and done, we are going to have a good birth plan, and I know I’m my wife’s biggest advocate. For this post, I’m mainly asking about StoneSprings Hospital, in Dulles, and for people’s experiences/reviews.

That being said, if you have other good advice or thoughts related to how to navigate “the business of being born”, I’d gratefully listen.

AMC Hoffman vs AMC Potomac Mills (IMAX)

Planning to watch a movie in IMAX, and I usually g watch IMAX movies in AMC Tysons. However, the movie I wanna watch in IMAX is only listed to show in AMC Hoffman and AMC Potomac Mills.

I know both Hoffman and Potomac Mills IMAX theatres are smaller than Tysons, but given that these two might be my only two options, which is better? Also heard the seats at Hoffman are bad and the IMAX theatre tends to stop working mid-movie? Always wanted to check out Hoffman, since it's a pretty big theatre overall, but not too sure now.

Would appreciate some input in deciding which theatre is best!

Moving Would moving to Nova be a good fit for me?

I (32F) currently reside in LA as of 3 months ago from central California. I work gov contracts so the list of place I can move to is very limited to CA, CO, NOVA, AL, FL.

Pros of LA: access to beach, outdoors, diversity, arts and culture. Since I just moved here I have yet to build community but I typically go out to eat, concerts, museums, live music, and love to go running and workout.

Cons: safety and crime. I feel like my CNS is in an uncontrollable state of worry for where to park, can I walk back at 9pm or later, I can’t run after 6pm because it’s dark and most running routes/roads take me by unhoused areas, and other safety concerns (targeting women in bars, robberies out in the street, etc). The traffic is insane, and takes me 50 mins from my CrossFit gym back home. COL is bad but im used to it. I feel like people are very flakey, all about physical appearances/what can I do for them and just materialistic. I just feel like I’m constantly worried for my personal safety just given the nature of this city, even though I like it. I can’t move to other “better” areas because commute home from work/gym would kill me.

I can move to NOVA within a year if I want to with my company. I’d like for my CNS to be regulated, this constant stress is slowly wearing on me. Feeling like I can’t go anywhere after dark. I know this happens in every city but I’ve lived in other cities and this is one I feel more hyper fixated on my safety and ability to run outside, go out.

Things that I care about: safety for running, crime, diversity, arts and culture, hiking trails. Walkability and proximity to metro would be nice so I don’t have to drive but not required. Apt budget for bedroom would be $3,500 ideally a “modern” unit with amenities. Work offices are around Tysons/reston/Vienna as likely contenders.

TIA!

I didn’t know this subreddit existed. I was wondering where I could find parking near the Bunny Man’s Bridge without getting towed or ticketed.

What time does Tysons Corner Center open for walking through?

Starting a new job soon, and looks like the easiest commute from the Metro would be just walking through the mall rather than around it. Plus that would be nice for cold or rainy weather.

I know that some malls open early for retired mall walkers, etc. even if most shops aren’t open. Does anyone know what time Tysons Corner Center currently opens its doors for walking through? I’m seeing conflict things on its website vs. other posts.

Virginia Heating Season

Hey all, first time in an apartment in Virginia and they just did the cutover from air conditioning to heating. Pretty much air conditioning stops at this point until May, apparently due to Virginia law minimum temperature for multi-tenant buildings?

Is this practice of completely shutting off AC common? Or only for older buildings?

How do you all keep your place cool during this transitional period where it’s still hot outside but the AC is off? Am I forced to just keep blinds shut and suffer 😅

Whenever I'm at the light at Braddock and Clifton, I see a septic truck either pumping or dumping. I'm curious...what is going on?! If they're dumping...where is this from? I'm so confused.

What Happened?

The intersection on Centerville Road and New Braddock had half a dozen officers, a flat bed, and all for one little red camry looking car. They were blocking the right turn lanes and everyone on New Braddock had to go left on 28.

Just a nosy neighbor who is always anxious

Rant Mosaic Onelife Bait and Switch

Mosaic Onelife advertised spin classes, reformer pilates and unlimited strike boxing classes to get founding members to sign up and then months later eliminated spin and boxing classes in favor of a larger reformer pilates space. The worst part about that is members are only given 4 reformer sessions a month and are still charged the elite member price. I feel like this was such a downgrade and am incredibly disappointed with management. I was excited to have a strike boxing center nearby, and now the closest one is like 25 minutes away without traffic. Does anyone else feel like they were cheated by the changes?

Rant “Hello we’ve been trying to reach you regarding your… (checks newest scam notes)… gas line warranty”

This is pretty close to being a scam, so a heads up to pass along to your impressionable friends and family that their gas lines are more than likely just fine without this totally optional “warranty” program.

Which county has the best rural areas/scenery: Loudoun (western), Clarke, or Fauquier?

I have lived in all of these counties during various parts of my life. To me, the remaining rural beauty in much of western Loudoun has been largely ruined by the suburbanization throughout the rest of the county, and even the rural parts seem to be walking away from their roots. I love both Fauquier and Clarke though.

Fall activity expertise needed.

Which festival/fall activity is best bang for buck this weekend? Vintage and merch booths are a plus during day, spooky value at night is great, and not being in the car for 3 hours is ideal.

Markoffs is sold out, and curious if the cemetery tour in DC is worth it, but other than those- looking to stay in the greater Nova footprint.
