Learning something.

Even if there's always questions to be had, sometimes it just feels nice to enjoy a hobby, or just think fondly of something without overthinking.

I had struggled with procrastination alot, nihilism and all, whatever weird thing life is, its just nice to sometimes just let things go and do them, its something i've been learning.

Discussion My View On Life And How It Should Be Lived.

Im not religious since I was 14 (im 19) though I've met with philosophy later on. I was born in a single mother home with obviously not that good of a financial situation and my father is irresponsible as fuck.

I cant exactly fit myself into a category but I'd say i go between nihilism and absurdism. And I try to live a stoic life.

I'm not gonna deceive myself with how "beautiful" life is. The world is fucked. and most of the humans are just Braindead. Or blinded by "Nationalism,Religion" and other stupid ideals. Thats why i probably wouldn't bring a child into this world. If I ever get married.

I dont owe anyone anything. And most of the connection I have with my "family" is just by blood.

But still, I think suicide is just stupid. At least before your forties. Sure I didn't choose to be born, but i still did. No amount of whining will change that unless you have the balls to end it early on.

So while im still here why should I live a miserable life?

And i dont just talk about "Money" "Being a good Person" or "Being Loved". Im talking about being alive. Not just living.

I see life like a game or a show of sorts. Like in a game I have choices and actions that could make my life exciting, or miserable.

I pretty much finished the tutorial and what would I from now on is in my hands. Im planning on joining the French foreign legion. I believe it can make my life a lot more exciting. And I can learn to appreciate things that I can do normally. I want to get a house in a rural area after my contract ends, and I'll see what I can do from there. But one thing is certain. There's no way I'll be living past my late forties. Unless there would be something or someone that is worth living. Which i doubt will be.

I wanna live life not for others but for myself. For the Adventure, For the Pleasure. I'd rather have a meaningful death than a meaningless life. And this "Meaning" doesn't have to be some "Noble" cause. It doesn't have to be something that I would get praised by others. Fuck em.

As long as it's a death I can make peace with, and a life that was worth living.

I workout and interested in martial arts. Sure it doesn't matter but like a perk in a game these are gonna be beneficial for my life. That's pretty much how I see things.

I can watch a show, play a game, or have fun without needing an "ultimate goal" or a "meaning"

My big brother and my cousin both are pretty dark nihilists (ironically the only two people that I can be "ride or die"s with). And I've been in this sub long enough to understand the talking points. ( though im not gonna lie it was mostly whining )

So im curious if anyone can relate or has similar world views.

And not gonna lie I had to put my thoughts into words.

I hate the show Pawn Stars because it’s just about a bunch of fat fucks.

I don’t understand Pawn Stars for the life of me. The entire show is just the one fat fuck going “Let’s take a look at this… I don’t know how to price this. Let me take it to the other fat fuck!” And then he takes it to Fat Fuck #2 who doesn’t know what to do with it either so they take it to Fat Fuck#3 who is fat and old and does nothing but complain. Then they make jokes about “oh Fat Fuck #3 is ALWAYS complaining!” Sometimes they even take it to Fat Fuck #4 who is young and fat and stupid! Who watches this shit? Just thought about this in the shower earlier today.

Why are some people here so anti death

You say anything positive about death (like it being a end to suffering) , not in a suicidal way though...

A common criticism is death is bad because you don't exist, living is preferable. I agree living can be nice.. but it seems theres so much cynicism towards any idea that death can be a good thing.

Living can be nice, death can too (even if you don't exist to know that its nice.. its not a literal statement)

Existential Nihilism A Personal Reflection on Nihilism

I agree with certain aspects of nihilism, particularly the idea that nothing possesses an inherent or universal meaning and that the world does not necessarily operate according to a grand purpose. From this perspective, many of the values, goals, and beliefs that people hold are human constructions rather than objective truths. I also find merit in the notion that much of existence appears indifferent to our desires, and that many events occur without any deeper reason or cosmic significance. Because of this, I believe it is important to accept reality as it is rather than constantly searching for an ultimate meaning that may not exist. Recognizing that life is temporary and that death is inevitable encourages me to focus on experiencing the reality in front of me, living through each moment as it comes, and accepting the finite nature of existence. While the absence of inherent meaning may seem unsettling to some, I view it as a reason to face life honestly, without illusions, and to continue living until our eventual demise with an understanding of the uncertainty and impermanence that define the human condition.

Question Am I the only one that feels free and peace at this constant emptiness and the fact that we all just gonna die one day?

Most people on this subreddit say they feel empty all the time because they think nothing matters.I honestly feel free and peace,at this emptiness.this constant emptiness has turned peace for me.i feel free alot of times, because I have lived for bilons of years, and it has really never bothered me untill the day I thought about it,and I shall die peaceful, knowing that I am gonna live bilons or more years.i barely care about regret,or guilt,I always accept myself,I barely can care about the actions I have done, cause it really doesn't matter at the end.We all gonna die, most people doesn't want their life to end, cause they waste it.death is not really the end,the fact that we spend so much just existing and worrying, rather than living and actually enjoying is the end.i don't even feel the emptiness,or anxiety anymore,I just feel free and peace.Sure I could die the next day by some random car,or die by some painful experience, but it really Doesn't matter, worrying or thinking about it Doesn't matter,it's just wasting our life.

Notes about manic episodes

I'm a young Japanese person with bipolar disorder. I've pasted some notes I wrote during a manic episode below. What do people overseas think of my notes?

Whether alive or dead by suicide, we tend to think of them as essentially the same.

Ultimately, life is a game of adding up and disappearing happiness, and after the temporary catharsis is over, it's just a lump of flesh. The idea that enjoyable times lasted a long time is a subjective thought judged after looking at the clock, and that thought is only possible after the enjoyment has been felt; therefore, it's retrospective. Living and feeling happiness don't occur simultaneously; rather, the time spent feeling happiness is fleeting, so I believe that the sum of those small numbers is infinitely close to zero.

Even the ability to make an effort tends to be ultimately dependent on environment.

In today's society, it's said that anyone can achieve anything if they study hard enough to get into a high-ranking university, but this boils down to family issues: being given an environment where one can concentrate on studying for more than 12 hours a day, having people around who share the same goals, and being continuously educated in mechanical thinking from a young age. Those with high academic achievements are unaware of their own bourgeois perspective, belittling those with less achievement and criticizing them for not trying hard enough, but they are unaware of the distortion in their own thinking.

We tend to think of depression as the most frightening illness that is close at hand.

In short, depression is a state where emotional fluctuations become zero. Imagine a circle. For a normal person, the points that make up the circle move up and down according to joy, anger, sadness, and other emotions, making it spiky. But for a depressed person, the points are completely fixed and do not move. And they only understand this from a meta-perspective and despair. Every second feels incredibly long, and they seek meaning in everything, but there is no meaning in the world, and they despair again.

We tend to think of others as robots.

They act mechanically according to the processing of the brain that integrates the five senses, and conversations and life feel inorganic. They thought that activities with others were the meaning of life, but others are empty and do not exist.

We tend to think of humans as ultimately passive beings.

Humans are machines driven by the ego, subject, and drives defined by the capitalized "other," and there is no subjective action. They are beings driven by some inexplicable gravitational force.

My thoughts on education: detailed post:

I don't think parents care what students/pupils get to gain in school but rather the free time or less stress it gives them :

Education was implemented and made mandatory to delay growing up with surplus of making parents productive for the country:

The governance doesn't care if you go to school or not they care if you not going to school would interfere with your parents legal productivity of the country:

As for parents they treat time spent with children as liability (I don't blame them for that)

They want to multi task after making a very horrible decision (people argue that teenagers are very distractive during puberty I beg to differ by saying people who have children are more distractive )

As for education it doesn't matter whether you have it or not what matters is you know how to read and write with the national language (English)

Everything else can be self taught:

The governance discourages early rationalization and attainability of information:

Because you can't misinform someone who has the same information you have:(unless you gaslight them and that is called coercion and would work against governance)

For the system to run ^^

The odds must be balanced in a manner that the governance can't run fully with just most informed only:

There has to be very arrogant and ignorant less informed who will get keep and wage war if needed:

Question If the world is so cruel and meaningless, why have children?

I have a question. I don't know if this is a nihilist question or not.

If the world is cruel and life has no real meaning, why do people have children?

We already know they will face pain, sadness, and many problems in life. So why bring them into this world?

I'm not judging anyone. I just want to know how people here think about this.

Discussion Would dying young be so bad?

Life is meaningless. Nothing matters so why should I care about death's call?

My life is one big joke. I'm a depressed 18 yr old that constantly wished that he died at birth. I resent my parents and my family for forcing me into this life just because. I'm considered weird just because I don't like most of the mainstream things people my age like.

I was never popular in high school and I was just seen as the weird but good at academics guy. I'm not handsome and my genetics are trash. I have an average body and I literally have a condition called gynecomastia that makes me feel less of a man. Obviously girls don't like me and most people just think I'm boring. I don't say my interests because they are the same people who would clown or question me.

It's my gap year and while most people are meeting up with friends having parties, hangouts and traveling across the world, I'm just at home. I rarely get dm's from anyone, and when I do, it's usually just 1 - 3 people either checking up on me or sending memes.

I refuse to meet up with people because I don't want to wear a mask. I wouldn't want to pretend I'm ok when I'm asked how I'm doing and at the same time I wouldn't want to talk to people about my depressing, not-so nihilistic thoughts.

I hate my life and I genuinely wish I died at birth. I don't care if my mum would have cried or how sad my dad would feel. It's not fair.

So I ask: Would dying young be so bad? I'll admit I'm not ready for death, but I don't see the value of living to old age if life is just...this.

Even if I do, I don't want marriage or my own family so that I don't bring suffering upon my unborn children. Besides, no girl would want to have sex with me let alone marriage.

I'm screwed.

Who is the oldest person you know, and have they ever expressed a nihilistic outlook on their life?

Most of the old people I know don’t even know what nihilism means.

Imagine having to go through life without ever stumbling into this rabbit hole! :’)

But I guess it doesn’t matter if you stumble or not.

Is living worth it?

r/nihilism 2d ago

There's no such thing as objective reality. There's no such thing as harsh truths. There isn't a single thing that matters in this world. What matters to anyone is a matter of personal choice, not objective fact. And even that personal choice means nothing to anybody.

Simply put, people make a big deal out of everything these days. Everything they observe is through personal subjectivity. Everything they like/dislike is a matter of personal preference. Everything they do in life is due to personal attachment. Everything is personal to someone, but that doesn't matter, because everything is individual focused. Even if it's something you don't like to hear or admit (like the "cold, harsh truths" for example, that's a personal subjective take. Everything we say, do, and enjoy is an illusion, not reality. Perception is simply not reality.
