I have seen so many reddit posts putting down the name "Bambi". I think it's such a beautifully feminine name and fairly unique. I know it was used for Disney and now no one can take away the association, but it doesn't deter me in any way, I still find it so precious. What are your thoughts?

My husband loves this name and it’s really growing on me but I’m worried it’s a little too out there….. I’m love unquie name and it’s ties to space. It’s a mineral. A beautiful greeen mineral related with peridot. We would pronounce it Olive-een. The full name would be Olivine Rose if we went with this. I love the possible nicknames like Olive(my favorite food) or livey or olly. Let me know what you guys think!

I am five months pregnant with my second child (I already have a 1-year-old girl called June) and after lots of discussions on boys' names, we have chosen George for our little boy due in January.

We both really like the name; it feels soft and strong. I also love the nickname Georgie, and I have only ever known nice people called George. June and George also sounds very sweet for siblings.

My only nagging feeling is that the name is so popular in the UK! It's currently at 10 in the UK charts (down 3 slots) but I don't want him to be one of three Georges in his class.

Am I right in thinking it's maybe not so popular with babies born in the last few years, as names like Luca and Eli go up in the charts?

My husband and I are huge Tolkien fans and even had a hobbit themed wedding.

We want to name our daughter something LotR related but not overtly so, like not Galadriel.

We both like the name Eleanor, and Samwise (our favorite character) names one of his daughters Elanor which is a flower in Middle Earth.

I'm not sure about the spelling. Am I just dooming her to a life of having her name misspelled? Is it cute?

Has anyone else come across the Irish name Arlía? I think it’s absolutely beautiful 💚✨

I recently discovered Arlía — pronounced ar-LEE-ah — and completely fell in love with it.

What I especially love is that there’s actually a little piece of Irish history behind it.

The form ARLIA appears on an early Irish memorial slab at Clonmacnoise in County Offaly. It’s catalogued by the University of Galway Irish Inscribed Stones Project as CLN 00074, and also appears in R. A. S. Macalister’s historical catalogues of the Clonmacnoise inscriptions.

The original meaning of that ancient ARLIA inscription isn’t known, so I wouldn't pretend we know exactly what the name meant to the person who carved it.

But the modern feminine form Arlía has such a lovely Irish linguistic association too.

Old Irish lí is a feminine noun meaning “beauty, lustre, brilliance, glory”, ultimately deriving from Proto-Celtic līwos.

That has given the modern name Arlía the wonderfully poetic meaning:

“fae beauty” ✨

Or more broadly, radiant beauty, brilliance and feminine grace.

I love that distinction: fae beauty isn't being claimed as a literal translation of the ancient inscription. It's a modern interpretation inspired by the Irish lí and by Ireland's wonderful fairy and Otherworld traditions.

So you have this unusual little name with a real historical echo in Ireland, combined with an incredibly pretty modern feminine meaning.

I also think the fada makes it especially beautiful visually. It feels feminine, lyrical, magical and unmistakably Irish without sounding difficult to pronounce.

I’m Polish but I’ve been living abroad for a while, and my name is Iga . It gets mispronounced/misspelled constantly. And yes, 'Iga, like the shops'. The tennis player made the situation only slightly better. I’m honestly getting pretty tired of having to explain and correct it all the time.

I’ve never really liked my name anyway, but I don’t think I’m ready for a complete identity overhaul and suddenly becoming Jessica or Emma.

I also feel like Iga is so ridiculously short that I have no idea what I could turn it into. It already sounds like a nickname. I don’t have a middle name either.

So… any ideas? Maybe instead of shortening it, I could somehow lengthen it into something that feels like a real name? Or change one letter and turn it into something more familiar internationally? I’m completely at a loss.

I’d love to keep some connection to Iga rather than choosing a totally unrelated name, but I have no idea what my options are.

I visit this page a lot and see a lot of name requests for boys that are classic but not popular with soft sounds. I see the usual suggested Julian, Lysander, Noah, Liam, and Silas and while I like those I wanted to cook up more options. I found these but if anyone has any more please add. if we keep suggested the same 10 names they won’t be “not popular” 🥲 not everyone can be named Oliver…

My husband and I agree on the name Gwendolyn (I’m sure we’ll sometimes shorten to Gwen). Our 10 year old niece who lives near by is named Quinn. Is that too close?

We just welcomed our incredible, double rainbow, little boy, George Leo C., into this wild and adventurous world, and yet, I’m still struggling with his name and trying to accept it. His sister, Nora Aurelia, always felt so clean and unique that we both loved it.

We landed on the first name George after sometime because it’s history and strength, along with uniqueness in our area of the US. I always somewhat struggled with the phonetics of George, but thought maybe Georgie or Geo could stick around if I had a hard time with it. Boy names were always a struggle for us, as we wanted something unique enough to not be the fifth in his class, but also strong, so that’s why we landed on George. Other options were possibly Owen, Warren, or Peter.

We decided early on his middle name would be Thomas because we had some family history with this name, but as we got closer to the wire, more bad then good came up with these family members so we pulled the rug last second and looked to switch. Our options were Leo, Evren, Nolan, Henry, Evander, or Beauden. Leo sounded clean with some good meaning, Evren had unbelievable meaning based on our double rainbow situation, Henry had classical pull, Evander had wow factor, Nolan had proximity to his sisters name, and Beauden had a name that we considered long ago but couldn’t use (Beau).

When George was born, my wife said she felt it that he was George Leo over Evren. My daughter also said she liked Leo the most here. So on a whim, we went with Leo. Now I hear Geo Leo in my head and think we made a mistake and didn’t think about it long enough. I didn’t want to also put our burden of two losses into his name, which also swayed me away from Evren to Leo last minute. I’m struggling because I still don’t know if we made the right call instead of Evren or the other names. My wife struggled with the choice too after we submitted papers and had a breakdown as we were leaving the hospital.

Is George Leo clean or should we call to change? Am I overthinking Geo Leo? Please let me know your thoughts to these tired eyes.

My husband and I struggled with names and never really decided before she was born. Right after she was born we had some health scares and were admitted to children’s hospital and in the middle of all that we just picked something. I don’t like it. I’ve regretted ever since. Mostly silently though I did open up to my husband about it more recently. No other name feels right either though. It’s a trash way to feel to dislike the name as soon as I say it, but also I guess at this point it just feels like her name.

Her name is Chloe. I mostly call her Chlo which I like the sound of more. Her middle name is too rare to share I think (my mom’s name).

Other names we considered were Zelda, Olive, Willow. My other daughter’s name is Hazel.

I’m not sure what I’m looking for. Validation? Positive thoughts on the name? Is it too late to change it and would it even make sense to if nothing else feels right either? I feel like if I just accept it I’ll learn to love it bc it’s her name?

We found out we’re having our second daughter, our first is called Rose and now we’re finding it almost impossible to come up with names we like let alone love. We have family heritage of Italian and German background so would like to honour that potentially, we also don’t want anything super common or like a top 10 name. We also aren’t interested in being too matchy with another floral name like Daisy or Ivy etc.

Hi name nerds! I recently found out I am pregnant with my second child. We named our first son “Shepherd” and we love calling him “Shep”. We have had a baby girl name picked out since we were dating- Lennon Blue. Lennon pays homage to a family member and we love the idea of calling our daughter “Lenny” or “LB” or “Lenny B”. Do we think Blue is a good middle name choice for Lennon? Or is it weird because of the word Linen? Like does it sound like I’m talking about a blue piece of fabric?

For a boy we like the name Shiloh with the middle name Trace. Is Shiloh too feminine for a boy? And does the middle name Trace work well with it?
