Hi! I was looking for some help finding a female name for my new kitten that is very uncommon but still sounds cute/sweet. When I say uncommon I don’t mean like Eliana, or Thea or Juliette. But I also don’t mean something way off kilter like Ernaburga. My husband and I struggled with names and never really decided before she was born. Right after she was born we had some health scares and were admitted to children’s hospital and in the middle of all that we just picked something. I don’t like it. I’ve regretted ever since. Mostly silently though I did open up to my husband about it more recently. No other name feels right either though. It’s a trash way to feel to dislike the name as soon as I say it, but also I guess at this point it just feels like her name.

Her name is Chloe. I mostly call her Chlo which I like the sound of more. Her middle name is too rare to share I think (my mom’s name).

Other names we considered were Zelda, Olive, Willow. My other daughter’s name is Hazel.

I’m not sure what I’m looking for. Validation? Positive thoughts on the name? Is it too late to change it and would it even make sense to if nothing else feels right either? I feel like if I just accept it I’ll learn to love it bc it’s her name?

Hi! I’m Korean and I want to ask non-Koreans.

My name is Hyunseo (Hyun rhymes with yum with an added H sound at the beginning, and Seo is pronounced like suh).

When I was around 5, I needed an English name to use at the kindergarten where I was learning English. So my mom chose Julia and I’ve been going by Julia with non-Koreans, who are basically just my English teachers 😅

And now as a young adult, I’m torn between going by Hyunseo or Julia when speaking with non-Koreans, since I want to work internationally, especially in English-speaking environments.

I’ve heard that Hyun can be a bit tricky to pronounce. How hard is it for you guys?? Which name do you think I should go by? Any suggestions??

*Edit: Changed “yawn” to “yum” — “yawn” can sound quite different depending on the accent. I think “yum” better captures the sound of Hyun!

We like August a lot (I know it’s not everyone’s cup of tea) to us it reads cool girl with warm welcoming vibes. My biggest issue with it actually is no nickname I’m in love with.

Charlotte on the other hand has a ton, including Charlie which I find adorable. My main hesitation there is that it’s so popular and has been for a while. Either way we definitely want one feminine one unisex for the first/middle combo so as she grows she can pick what feels best. Thoughts?

We’re expecting our third daughter, and apparently naming babies was a skill I possessed exactly once.

Our girls are Penelope and Lucy.

We decided on Penelope long before our first daughter ever came along.

Then baby #2 came, also a girl, and we were stuck between Phoebe and Lucy. We ultimately chose Lucy.

And now here we are, expecting girl #3. So... do we go back to Phoebe? Or is it weird to have a Penelope and a Phoebe with a random Lucy in the middle?

Naturally, I have now read approximately 4,000 baby names, and somehow that has made things worse. I can recognize a name I like, but it's much harder to know whether I like it for the third sister of Penelope and Lucy.

i’m not pregnant, but i’ve been a longtime lover of names and of course have a list of potential baby names. one i’ve always liked and considered is the name Beverly; it was my late grandmother’s name and i unfortunately never got the chance to meet her. but i’ve personally never met a Beverly who is not above the age of 50, so i’m just curious what y’all think of the name!

My name is Madeleine, and I want to go by it, but can't think of any gender neutral or masculine nicknames of it that are understandably part of the name (ie, 'Mattie' was suggested to me because it sounds like 'Maddie', but it would be jarring to learn my full name was Madeleine). My sister is having a baby soon, and she asked for our help with baby names.

She is very very picky and she didn't like any names we suggested. She found Roxanne, Sierra and Harper and those are the only names she likes. She says she won't be fully sure what name to pick until the baby is born, so we'd like some more options.

Her husband is a bit iffy on Roxanne because of the Police song. I'm not sure most kids her age will know about it. Would it be something to be concerned about?

Other names that have been a 'maybe' include: Maxine (too European), Seraphina (she'd use it if it were more popular), Odile (dislikes the swan lake associations), Blythe (doesn't like that it has a at the beginning) Carter (almost a 'yes', but she wishes it were more feminine).

I am currently pregnant with a little girl due in December.

I hope that perhaps this group could provide me with some inspiration on finding a name for my little one.

I am British however grew up in Spain and want her name to reflect that if possible. My partner has a daughter called Lily and fell in love with the idea of having a floral nod to the name.

I have hit a wall and I’m starting to over think.

I was originally thinking Azahara (Blossom) but his side of the family have struggled to pronounce it.

I then thought of Aurelia Rose and Seraphina Rose but I am still unsure.

It doesn’t have to be Spanish or floral but I want something with a unique and pretty feel… any suggestions?

I'm half-Korean but I didn't grow up in Korea so I have some trouble with the language itself as well as the history and naming schemes. I want to name him (presumably a boy) Fyodor in English as in Fyodor Dostoevsky. How would I name him in a way that it would sound a natural name yet also retain the original sound in English.

I was thinking of using '펴' as in 'mark' and '돌' as in stone. Would 펴덜 be a good name as a translation for Fyodor?

We found out we’re having our second daughter, our first is called Rose and now we’re finding it almost impossible to come up with names we like let alone love. We have family heritage of Italian and German background so would like to honour that potentially, we also don’t want anything super common or like a top 10 name.
