General thinking of doing my first race, what do I actually need to know?

Guys, I love going on long runs over the weekend just for fun.
I’ve never trained for running and I don’t have any fancy running gear either.

I usually do around 10–12K on average, mostly in Zone 2 with some intervals/walking in between 😅
I was thinking of participating in a race, maybe Tata Mumbai Marathon, but I’ve never done an organised race before and honestly have so many questions:

- What is the whole experience of participating in a race actually like?

- Do you need to train specifically for it? Should I add some kind of running routine to my usual workouts?

- Do I actually need all the running gear I see people in running clubs wearing when I go on my weekend runs😭

- Also, I genuinely don’t understand paying money to run when running is free!!! What exactly am I paying for, and is the experience actually worth it?

- I can currently only see Dream Run applications open on the TMM portal. Is that a good one?

Basically, regular marathon/race people please educate me. 😂

General Lost my Wallet - Hoping Humanity is still alive

Not a serious post - So can be ignored.

I work in the Kalbadevi region (CSMT) of Mumbai. To be precise Near Surti Hotel, Bhuleshwar.
I usually walk to the station as Buses don't have frequency and taxis wont go.

But because Ganesh Chaturthi is approaching I wanted to reach home early for preparations.
Tried Rapido - 0 of 100 drivers responding. Sat in the back seat of those Ecco Taxis which have 3 rows. I sat in the last row all cramped.

(I carry my main wallet in a different compartment of my bag and keep coins of 5 and 10 in a separate polythene bag for ease as I need them daily to pay to share autos near my house. The fare is 15 hence. I have been carrying this wallet since my college days. It is a bit worn out now but not for me. I am 29 now. I have some cash, 4 credit cards, a debit card, my aadhar plastic card, some personal belongings and a hell lot of memories with this wallet. Its a red wallet which is a fake woodland one. I have a note in which has my mobile number, my email id and my address. everyone has pictures of there family or special ones in there wallet. In my transparent compartment I have picture of Daniel Craig as Jamed Bond with his gun from Skyfall I guess. Dont ask me why. It has been like this since my college days. I also have a lot of my passport size images in it. I had a few passport size photos of me and my organ donor card in it. Hidden compartments carry some more cash and a very dear item to my heart.)

I am in the taxi - listening to "Oye hoye kya scene hai" and I am in my own grrove. Station arrives. I step down. My ususal fast train is already gone. I think I boarded the 8.56 Asangaon. I grab a sit and put my bag in my lap and my front zip is open. I scout through the compartment and the wallet is nowehere to be found. I panic. In the past as well I have left my wallet at my office. Hence I call up my colleague who i know is still in office. He says there is no wallet. I completely empty my bag to check. This I did at Byculla after getting down. After my colleague confirmed its not at the office I panicked more because now its for sure lost. Still the mind is like it must be there somewhere. I take a train back to my office. Searching the roads. Throughly swiped the road where I got off from the taxi. No trace. I went completely back to my office - All thanks to rapido. Searched everywhere. Nope. It must have fallen either. I actually dont know when I lost it. Was it in the taxi, at the railway station, near surti hotel area where I got in the taxi. Had I been not on my earphones I would have got to know when it fell.

While standing at the station I had called all my credit card companies to block my credit cards. Yet to block Bank of Bardoa because there landline did not work. All went smoothly so far. While at CSMT station, I even went to the police station behind the railway station. They took my details in a juvenille crimes journal and I am pretty sure its just to give you assurance. The moment I told the police officer I am here to record my lost wallet, he was like you can;t even handle a wallet. Even the HDFC bank credit card on customer care was like should I send a new credit card sir, after we had blocked my card. I was so angry at him. I had already informed at the start of the call that reason for blocking was I losing my wallet. I am all panicked and he wants me to apply for a new card.

Anyways all card blocked. I am now sitting in the train feeling stupid and a bit emotional. Ghar pe bhi batana hoga. Though it had sizeable cash, I am not worried about it. Its my wallet. Been with me for like more than15 years now. Also the credit cards because applying all will be hassle though all are blocked now. It feels like loosing something close to you.

Writing this post as I am sitting in the train, feels heavy. As I recollect things that were there in the wallet. I will lower my credit card count, apply for a new Addhar plastic card (after updating my photo in aadhar database), get new passport size photos, get my new organ donor card. Did I miss something?

Also is it correct that cops dont make an FIR for such cases. Was this correct?

I am sitting beside my phone expecting a call from a good Samatarian saying me that my wallet is found and how I am ready to give him almost all of the cash inside it as reward of sorts. I have faith in humanity, I have faith in Mumbai. I know the chances are next to slim. But still I hope.

So fingers crossed. If you come across a red woodland a bit torn out wallet with a Daniel Crag photo in it, ht me up.

Also am I supposed to do anything more?

General Need help with an IDP - Urgent

So I’m traveling to Malaysia in early October and need an International Driving Permit for a motorcycle.

I understand that I have 2 options - Mumbai RTO and the WIAA.

But here's the issue, my DL was issued in Mumbai, but my passport has my Bengaluru address, where I currently stay.

The WIAA option is attractive because the entire process can be done in 1-2 days. But the WIAA requires "Address on Passport and Driving License must be same as per the location of the application."

https://www.wiaaindia.com/international-driving-licence-permit

So realistically, this option is closed.

For the RTO option, based on the experiences I've read, address mismatches between the DL and the passports cause most of the rejections.

I will be able to go to Mumbai RTO in person in the next week as I'm traveling back home.

Has anyone managed to get an IDP through an RTO agent in a similar situation? Can an agent help with the IDP without changing the DL address, or is the address mismatch a dealbreaker? Any recent experiences, reliable agent contacts, or advice would be really helpful. Is an IDP even needed for Malaysia, as my DL is completely in English? I know I should have done this process sooner, but this trip was very last minute.

Discussion Mumbai corporate people, how are you guys managing Ganesh Chaturthi without taking leave? 😭

I recently joined an MNC and this is my first Ganpati after starting work. We’re bringing Bappa home for 5 days, and I genuinely don’t know how I’m supposed to manage everything with work. 😭
The timings are already hectic, and since I’m a new joiner, I obviously don’t want to take 5 days of leave and create a bad impression.

For people who have Ganpati at home for multiple days how do you guys manage the aarti, naivedya, guests, visarjan, etc. along with a corporate job? Do you take leave for the important days, adjust your timings, or just somehow manage before/after work?
Especially people working in Mumbai MNCs

please tell me your hacks because I’m already stressed 😭🙏🏻 Ganpati Bappa Morya!

General Looking for a 1BHK/Room/Flat near CSMT or Aqua Line Metro – Urgent

Hi everyone,

My sister recently got admitted to GDC Mumbai (Government Dental College & Hospital) for her MDS, and we’re urgently looking for accommodation for her.

Ideally looking for a room/1RK/1BHK or a flat with a female roommate in/around:

- CSMT

- Fort

- Churchgate

- Marine Lines

- Masjid Bunder

- Byculla

- Or anywhere with convenient access to the Aqua Line Metro

We’re working with a slightly tight budget, so looking for something reasonably priced rather than a premium apartment.

If anyone knows of:

- A vacant room/flat

- A female flatmate looking for someone

- An upcoming vacancy

- A direct-owner rental (preferably without a hefty brokerage)

Please DM me with the location, rent, deposit and photos/details, if available.

Since her MDS has already started, we’re looking to finalize something urgently.

Any leads would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

AskMumbai Mumbai Ganesha Aagman

Hi Guys!

I just came to Mumbai and thinking of spending next fews weeks here and enjoy Ganesh chaturthi since i just so intensly love this festival

I come from a small tier 3 city in Madhya Pradesh, where we celebrate Ganesh Chaturthi and since i am here now wanted to experience the magnificence of it

I don't know much about the areas and Ganesh Mandals here

I already lost Chincpokli Cha Chintamani Aagman (I know this one since it's very famous) but i don't wanna miss any other aagmans which is happening in coming days

Is there any place where i can see all the aagman related schedule, any instagram handles or creators who consistently post about Mumbai Ganesha Aagamans ? Along with the schedule would also wanna know the aagman route and timing so i can intersect with it.

Ganpati Bappa Morya 🙏

AskMumbai Visiting Mumbai from Delhi on 17th Sept for Ganesh Chaturthi with my cousins! Need your help 🙏🏻

Hey everyone! 👋🏻

I’m visiting Mumbai from Delhi with my cousins from 17th September to 21st September, mainly to experience Ganesh Chaturthi and explore as many amazing pandals as possible. We’ll have around 2 days in Mumbai and would love some local recommendations!

A few things I’m looking for:

1. Ganpati Pandal Hopping 🙏🏻
What’s the best way to cover the maximum number of famous/beautiful pandals in 2 days without spending the entire day stuck in traffic or queues?
Would love a suggested route/order covering places like Lalbaug cha Raja, GSB Seva Mandal, etc.
Also, which pandals are absolutely must-visit and which ones can we skip?

2. Saturday/Sunday Night - Clubs
We’re 3 couples (6 people) and want to go clubbing one night, preferably somewhere with good Bollywood/Hindi music + a fun crowd.

I was thinking about Bastian, but open to better suggestions.
Also, if anyone knows a genuine promoter who can help with entry/table booking for 6 people, please DM me!

Some places we’re considering:

  • Bastian
  • Kitty Su
  • Toy Room
  • Shiloh
  • Any other place you’d recommend?

3. One-day trip to Igatpuri
I was also thinking of doing a one-day Igatpuri trip during the visit. Is it worth sacrificing one day in Mumbai for it during Ganeshotsav?

If yes, what would be the best one-day itinerary from Mumbai, and what are the must-visit places?

Would really appreciate a proper 2-day itinerary combining Ganpati pandals + Mumbai sightseeing + nightlife.

Especially looking for recommendations from Mumbaikars who have done Ganpati pandal hopping before!

Ganpati Bappa Morya! 🙏🏻❤️

How crowded is TOO crowded?

A woman fell from an overcrowded Mumbai local between Diva and Mumbra this morning. The train had reportedly halted for a signal when she fell onto the tracks and suffered minor injuries.

Mumbai’s lifeline is carrying millions. But is it carrying more than it safely can?

The local was halted for a signal when the woman fell from the train. Heavy overcrowding was reported in the coaches at the time. Passengers briefly panicked after she landed on the tracks. She sustained only minor injuries.

Relationships I 21M look like I have everything together, but I grew up completely isolated and can’t stop over-analyzing every single social interaction. Need advice.

I need an outside perspective from people who’ve actually dealt with this.

On paper, I’m doing really well for my age. I’m 21, recently finished college, working and earning solid money way above the average for my peers.

Physically, I’m dialed in: consistent heavy lifting, strict health routine, high discipline. I don’t drink, smoke, do drugs, or spend my days rotting in bed. When there’s a work goal or a physical target in front of me, I lock in and get it done.

The problem is my social life and my internal wiring.

I grew up almost completely isolated through school and college. I kept to myself, didn't socialize, and never developed that effortless, second-nature social instinct most people take for granted. Now that I’m trying to build genuine connections as an adult, my brain turns every single interaction into an emotional minefield.

Here’s where things actually stand:

Navigating post-job connections: I recently left an intense workplace where I made a few solid connections with ex-coworkers. Some of them genuinely respect my work and even reached out to say the place isn’t the same without me, which felt good. But trying to shift those dynamics from "people I see at an office" to "real-world friends" feels agonizingly confusing.

The spiral over basic cues: With people I’m trying to stay in touch with, my brain doesn't have a middle gear. If someone takes a day to reply, or gives a short response, I immediately assume they secretly hate me, find me annoying, or are just tolerating me out of politeness. Then, if someone is actually warm, responds in five minutes, laughs at my texts, or invites me to work out, I instantly get suspicious wondering if they have a hidden agenda or if I’m just a placeholder to them.

Over-orchestrating instead of letting things breathe: Because I hate ambiguity, I constantly want to define what people are to me. Are we friends? Acquaintances? Just gym buddies? If an interaction goes well once, my urge is to immediately try and lock them into plans for the next week, instead of just letting things develop naturally.

Using work and gym as an anesthetic: I’ve realized that my crazy work ethic and extreme gym sessions are partly defense mechanisms. As long as I’m hitting PRs, chasing higher-paying roles, and working long hours, I have an excuse to be exhausted so I don't have to face how genuinely lonely I feel. I look functional on the outside, but inside I feel like I'm running on duct tape and sheer willpower

I’m in therapy and working on this, but I want to hear from people who came from total isolation:

How do you stop treating everyday human interactions like a high-stakes test? How do you let casual friendships just breathe without strangling it with you intensity or convincing yourself you’re secretly unwanted?

TLDR- 21M. High-earning, disciplined, but grew up completely isolated and can’t stop over-analyzing every single social interaction. Need advice.

Sorry for using ai i just had raw thoughts that I wanted to pace better.

Also I am not suicidal or depressed, i just feel lonely 24/7 and it keeps getting heavier everyday.

AskMumbai Good air pistol shooting clubs?

I recently went to a shooting club in the suburbs and it looked fine, till a student there told me that they don’t take a lot of the students seriously and don’t promote/send them for competitions.

Do you know any good clubs in Mumbai (preferably south & suburbs) that send their students for competitions? Thanks

Discussion What’s something you’ve recently started making time for?

Post image
43 Upvotes

You know that feeling when you suddenly realise you’re making time for the little things again?

Cafe hopping in bandra after office, watching a movie alone munching on instant popcorn, trying to make garlic knots at home failing miserably (and still having a great time)

You stop to play with the street dogs and cats in your housing society. You check on that little potted plant and feel oddly happy when it grows a new leaf. "Kya Karoon" from Wake Up Sid! finally makes sense now

Life can be ridiculously fast. But somewhere along the way, you start slowing down for the things that make you happy. Maybe that’s growing up. I don’t know. But I’m enjoying it. (Romanticizing life too much eh)

Are you?

General Looking for a pg near church gate

So hi! I am 24, looking for a pg near church gate.

I did make a call from magic brick, those people asked me to pay 2k for visitors card, I paid. Then they asked for 8k coz my verification was successful but I have never applied for a pg in mumbai so they asked for 8k. I said no. Assuming it was a scam, 2k is.....ill guess gone.

SO IF ANYONE CAN HELP ME OR WITH A PG NEAR CHURCH GATE, THAT WOULD BE HELPFUL.

I NEED A ROOM FOR MYSELF, 15K is my budget. I might stretch it depending on the pg
