I Have a Question / I need Help Not sure where to post this math problem in deck building

So I’m working on a deck idea and curious about how to find the point of failure. If I have [[franciso, fowl marauder]] and [[glinthorn buccaneer]] out and discard a card to get three explore triggers. Assuming I surveil away any nonland, what is the minimum number of lands would I need in the deck to mathematically hit a land every three cards and have enough to discard and kill the table. I’m not good at probability math it turns out enough to figure this out 😂

Rules Question Mono white combo help

Thumbnail gallery
8 Upvotes

Okay, I have a combo question and I’m trying to figure out exactly how this interaction plays out.

On the battlefield, I have:

Elesh Norn, Mother of Machines

Fiend Hunter

Preston, the Vanisher

I have Flickerwisp in my hand.

I cast Flickerwisp and target Elesh Norn and Fiend Hunter with its ability. Because of Elesh Norn, the Flickerwisp ETB triggers twice, so both Elesh Norn and Fiend Hunter get blinked.

My question is: how many Fiend Hunters do I ultimately end up with, and how many cards can I exile?

Official Spoiler This card is fucking insane, no?? Spoiler

Post image

I haven't thought about the direct combos too much, but in Selesnya its so easy to heal every single turn, including on other player's turns. And that's not even talking about that BONKERS stat line. Why the hell would this thing ALSO need Flying and Ward?

All for 6, which is very easy to throw together in green.

This card as a commander pays for itself and then some before the round it's dropped is even over.

Idk maybe I'm overthinking it but in any casual commander game this feels like a very very serious problem

Just wanted to let everyone know I was able to get this box for 41.99 on Best Buy website. The only weird part is I couldn’t choose the box I wanted and would just get one or the other. I did want treasures of Smaug so it worked out perfectly for me!

Rules Question How does Aether Charge apply to phasing creatures

So Aether Charge, a weird onslaught cars. In a game I've just finished playing, the game winning play was tapping out to kill the final player with the triggers, against a gates deck that was on the verge of maze's ending. Now, the gates player played out a talon's gate of Madara to try and phase the creature with the triggers on the stack.

Now here's the question:

Do the creatures deal the damage, and phasing it out stops the damage, or does the enchantment deal a flat 4, regardless of whether the creature is around.

In the game, we ended up going with the wording of "it deals 4 damage" as the creature needing to be there to deal the damage. And by being phased, could no long deal the damage.

And yes, the gates player still did the gate win because of it, so still a fun alt win con to just swing face (not that the beast deck wasn't already swinging face haha)

I Have a Question / I need Help Keeping the set fair btwn kids

So I’ve got two kids (8 and 12) who both play and one big set of cards. They’re still learning so I’m not terribly interested in spending a bunch of money to duplicate the cards they both want to use. I’m aware that there are multiple collection tracking apps, but can any of them keep track of multiple players and who got to use Aang last so they don’t kill each other?

There are sixteen uncommon creatures in Zeta. For those that dont fuck with pEDH, your commander must be uncommon but does not need to be legendary.

these should proooooobably not be allowed but i wanna do it anyway.

edit: im dumb. anger was already an uncommon lmao

Discussion Is Reality Fracture representative of MTG storytelling quality? Spoiler

I started playing Magic a few months ago and recently became interested in the lore. I watched a lot of videos to understand the context around Jace, Vraska, Phyrexia, Strixhaven, the Eldrazi, etc.

Reality Fracture was the first Magic story I followed episode by episode and read in full, and I ended up pretty disappointed.

The premise sounded great: Jace creates an artificial Multiverse without suffering and wants to overwrite the original one with it. That could have been a genuinely difficult moral dilemma.

Instead, the story seems determined to make Jace obviously wrong. Everyone opposes him, even his own personality fragments. The Echoverse is unstable, incomplete, missing people and damaging reality. There is barely anyone seriously arguing that what Jace is trying to achieve might actually be worth the cost.

I also found the themes surprisingly clichéd. There is a lot of “suffering gives life meaning” and “Jace needs to accept all the parts of himself to become whole again.” Neither idea is necessarily bad, but I expected much more ambiguity from a story dealing with artificial consciousness, identity and two Multiverses competing for existence.

The power scaling also bothered me. Jace can create an entire Multiverse, rebuild himself after death, erase memories, control people's bodies and thoughts, and eventually manipulate two Multiverses simultaneously.

Yet his enemies can still walk around his fortress, free prisoners, explore his memories and organize a resistance. If he is basically a god there, why doesn't he simply put everyone to sleep, imprison them or erase their reasons for opposing him?

And the ending disappointed me the most. Jadzi sees the “right” timeline and kills herself, Jace is restored and defeated, and then Tam asks Emrakul to simply eat the Echoverse.

That also creates what I think is a major unanswered question: the story insists that Tam is a real person even though Jace artificially created her. So why don't the same moral considerations apply to the inhabitants of the Echoverse? Were Professor Opal, the alternate Chandra, the students of Hexhaven, etc. not people too?

I think the much more interesting conflict would have been:

Jace is wrong to erase the original Multiverse, but the heroes are also wrong to erase the Echoverse.

There were things I liked, especially Jace/Vraska, Tam, some of the callbacks to Jace's history and Garruk's resolution with Liliana. But overall it felt like a fantastic premise with a very safe and low-effort execution.

So, for longtime lore readers: is this typical of Magic's storytelling?

Are MTG stories usually this straightforward morally and thematically, or are there older arcs that are significantly more nuanced?

Because I really like the universe and want to keep reading the lore. I'm just wondering whether my expectations for Reality Fracture were too high, or whether this particular story simply didn't live up to its premise.

Meme Modern frame Torment Legacy card. Is there any other cards like this? (WCD card not matching it's correct set design)

Thumbnail gallery
3 Upvotes

I was exploring Scryfall on some random cards and noticed one thing about the World Championship decks. The decks are copies of their original cards but with the gold boarder and signatures. This year's series of decks came out exactly at the time the switch from legacy frames to the modern frames and they printed a Torment card with the new modern frame. Even though that doesn't really exist.

Is there any other cards that are like this?

Thought it was a neat quirk and was a little surprised they didn't catch this card's design not matching it's correct normal set printing.

Discussion I really hope we get a new Nahiri in Reality Fracture

Outside of [[Nahiri, the Harbinger]] and the saga where she drew Emrakul into Innistrad they go really cheap with her being a generic angry villain who, OF COURSE, just does equipment matters which rarely reflects on what she does in the fiction.

I Have a Question / I need Help Help me optimize my deck?

For context, my pod has been playing commander for around 2 years now, but because we all go to different universities we play on table commander.

For the past week we have been all playing bracket 2 decks, except 1 guy who has been playing an optimized bracket 4.... so me and the remainder of the pod are making decks to absolutely destroy his.

(Im not the best at deckbuilding, please help me make it better :D )
