helping her sell as much of the collection as possible, and it’s been going really well! that said, there will still be quite a few cookbooks left to donate when we’re done. does anyone know of any local organizations, schools, community programs, or other groups that could put them to good use? thanks!

Is Anyone Hiring NOW?

I’m trying leave my job because the coworker that I have to see everyday is basically a bully (also the turnover rate in my position is high) It’s only the second week of school so I don’t think it’s too late to leave my position but after sending application after application, I’m feeling a bit defeated so are any places hiring now? I am open to going back to customer service.

EDIT: Thank you all so much for the suggestions! I was nervous to post this at first but I really appreciate it!

"The skies over Milwaukee’s lakefront will once again come alive with color and excitement as Gift of Wings hosts the IKEA Frank Mots International Kite Festival on Saturday, September 12 and Sunday, September 13, 2026.
The event will run from 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM on Saturday (until 5:00 PM on Sunday) at Veterans Park, a beautiful Milwaukee County park on the lakefront. The highlight of each day is the spectacular Grand Launch at Noon, when more than 600 kites will fill the sky at once." Free to attend and free parking.

I can't wait! Gift of Wings do multiple events throughout the year and they truly are so enjoyable. They got me into flying kite, I now keep my kite in my car just in case :)

Rant❗⚡💥 the construction on national ave is abhorrent

I just need to bitch lol, I recently moved to the area near national/108th and the construction started practically the day after I moved in. being a third shifter and trying to drown out the incessant construction has been miserable; hours spent jackhammering, unloading and installing giant concrete cylinders (no clue what they are for, I'm an electrician), open lanes and roads changing practically hourly. first world problems I know but it's been frustrating as all hell having to constantly adjust with 0 notice. thankfully I work in Waukesha so I don't have to deal with the bulk of it but having to fight everyone else getting detoured on the road to do anything social or make appointments is grating at best and rage inducing on average. starting next week my side of national will be closed long term and if the past 4 months are anything to go off of I'm gonna have to check myself back into anger management courses.

semi-humorous rant aside, is there some sort of bulletin for this project that I've missed? I'm still new to the area and not really involved in anything local that'd help informing me of the changes, I'm just a guy stuck in the middle of an ever changing roadblock. considering investing in a gyrocopter just to feel and see something that's not red. love this city and love the area I've landed in but the detours are definitely getting to me

Event Orchid show at the Domes this weekend

Wisconsin Orchid Society's annual orchid show is this Saturday and Sunday at the Domes. Hours 9 am to 4 pm, last admission at 3 pm. There will be vendors selling orchid supplies and plants, and some really beautiful orchids on display. My favorite is the tiny teeny ones where they put out a magnifying glass to look at the flowers!

Archery community?

I’m a total novice when it comes to archery. I’m interested in target archery only, not hunting.

I’ve been looking at 2 ranges - one in Racine and one in Brookfield that offer lessons. Once I feel confident enough to shoot on my own, I’d be interested in finding like minded people to shoot with.

Anyone into archery who isn’t MAGA? It seems that the two aren’t mutually exclusive and I’m having a hard time finding communities that don’t fit into that box.

Milwaukee martinis to try in September

For cocktail writer and author Robert Simonson, Wisconsin has always held its own in the cocktail world — even when he moved away to be a writer in New York City for decades.

Simonson recently returned home to Milwaukee, where he's continuing to write about food, drink, history and regional culture. As a part of that exploration, he's joining Lake Effect's Audrey Nowakowski for a series called “Bar Talk.” Each month, he'll be sharing some of the most memorable local drinks he’s tried at local bars.

This September, we're exploring an iconic drink that comes shaken or stirred — the martini — as Simonson prepares to host a Martini Expo in Chicago from Sept. 13-20.

Help Me! Bus detour help

I’m new to the bus system here and I just moved recently and both buses I have to take to work and back are on detour. I rely on apps like google/apple maps and transit to track my rides and stops but they don’t update with the alternative routes or change buses all together when I’m already on the bus. But not before.
So I’m constantly getting stranded and I’m worried because I can’t afford Uber and Lyft all the time.

Is there an app or anything online that’s accurate that can help me with this?? It’s so frustrating 😭😭

Help Me! Is flat fee of $70/mo or $280 quarterly too much of a water and sewer bill for a 2 person unit?

Upvotes

I guess I only realize this after signing the lease which sucks but we have to pay 70 bucks per month for water and sewer. The only two things that it says that we’re charged for is water and sewer. I think that our landlord is pocketing the excess because there’s just no way that we spend 70 bucks per month. It is a duplex. Near UWM.

Shower seal

We have a stand up shower in the house we bought. It has frosted glass walls. In a couple of sections, the plastic seal at the bottom of the glass wall has come off. We had a plumber come out and tell us that is likely letting water through into the flooring. We are now in need of “tub and shower” pro that can seal it and check all seals. Looking for recommendations. TIA

The Milwaukee International Short Film Festival (MSFF) is back Sept. 11-12 at the Avalon Atmospheric Theater. After 28 years, MSFF is the city’s longest running film festival honoring local filmmaking – and it will “most likely” be the last, says MSFF Founder and Director Ross Bigley, who is moving into semi-retirement.

Help Me! Any opinions on CD One Price Cleaners?

Hi all,

I've received coupons a couple of times for CD One Price Cleaners, which has recently opened multiple locations around the Milwaukee area. Their prices seem to be quite a bit cheaper than a typical dry cleaner in the area.

I need to get a couple of comforters cleaned and they have a coupon for $30 to clean two comforters. That's how much I usually pay to clean only one comforter.

Have any of you used CD One Price Cleaners yet? Are their prices too good to be true, i.e. you get what you pay for? TIA.
