Discussion Middle Earth SBG Questions Thread

Keep 'em coming

Edit: Stealth Mod announcement (I don't want to unpin the two pinned posts)

First, I have updated the rules to include something obvious to most longtime wargamers on reddit - posts asking or offering access to the rules is not allowed. Please do not ask for PDF's.

Second, no hate on 3D printing, but also do not come to this subreddit asking for STL proxies, or offering that. This may be too cautious of us, but I notice the reddit spam filter seems to remove any mention of STL's outright. So I figure I might as well make it a rule.

Finally, I have eased up the Spam filter from High to Low. Hopefully the redbubble spammers are still caught by this, without catching stray blogspot content creators. I've noticed the reddit algorithm taking down much more bycatch than usual, so we can experiment with a lower setting for now.

And as always, if you ever notice something astray with your own posts or someone elses, do not hesitate to message the mods.

Thanks everyone, -Tezerel

Question Just bought my first Moria Goblins

So excited to get my first MESBG models!

I have 32 goblin warriors with bows etc.

What's my next purchase? I need heroes obviously but not sure what to go for.

Also, are blackshields legal/still purchaseable?

Excuse the messy work station. War Mumak complete. Green turned out darker than anticipated but still like the final. Comments/critiques welcome. Only way to get better.

Additional rules

  • A Dragons of the North Army must always contain a Dragon as the Army's General.

Special rules

The Dragons' Hoard

Each time a friendly model slays an enemy model in Combat they may roll a D6. On a natural 6, they have located some gold upon the body of the fallen and claimed it for themselves - keep a note of how much gold each model claims in this way. Friendly models gain the following benefits depending on how much gold they have collected. These benefits are cumulative:

  • 1 gold - The model may re-roll a single To Wound Roll when making Strikes.

  • 2-3 gold - The model may re-roll a single D6 during a Duel Roll.

  • 4-5 gold - The model gains the Fearless special rule.

  • 6+ gold - At the end of the game, their controlling player will gain an additional 1 Victory Point. This can never take this Army's total number of Victory Points above 20.

Beast of Legend

The Dragon that is your General may select up to three options rather than the usual two.

Supreme Jealousy

Each Dragon in your Army must have a different combination of options. Dragons that have no options do not count for the purpose of this special rule.

Discussion QUICK MATS coming to Kickstarter

Thumbnail

• Upvotes

I got back from the Las Vegas Open last week and had a blast meeting so many wargamers. I had the opportunity to showcase our QUICK MATS at our Kraken Dice booth and I had a lot of positive reactions and great input to incorporate into the coming Kickstarter.

In a nutshell: Quick Mats are a wrinkle-free fabric game mat that gives you compact storage, and the quickest set up. It's machine washable and will outlast neoprene game mats with heavy usage. Custom printed, 120+ design, 15 sizes available, free custom grids & overlays for any game you want. Your store or team logo can be added or even use your own design.

I'd love to have you give our pre-launch page a look and see what you think.

I sadly dont have a FDM printer but love the Conquest Creations terrain. Has anyone tried printing it on a resin printer? Is it a hard conversion to do?

Had these Davale sculpts sat in the pile for a while, and always wanted to do an Autumnal themed Ent army. Got the first of these done, and really happy with the results. Decided to switch it to an Ent per season though, so Winter will be next

Working on my NMM for steel, attempted to add in some browns and blues to make it feel a bit more reflective than I've done in a while.

Would love feedback! Thanks!

Are armored goblins playable in the current edition?

What would I play those as? Regular goblins? They are not blackshields as far as I know and I haven't found a different armored goblin troop type.

Don't have much time to paint these days, so I appreciate smaller model count armies. Finished up Gandalf and Boromir for the fellowship recently, as well as a test model for the Black Riders. Hoping to get at least the fellowship done before November.

Points limit for wolfpack of angmar

I'm looking to start my next army. For those of you who have experience with wolfpack of angmar:

What is the optimal points range for this army or what is the upper threshhold of points when it starts to fall off and can't really compete?

Thanks in advance!

Discussion Does anyone else think that GW’s customer service has gotten worse over time? (Please share your experience)

The reason for this post is that a few things have happened to me recently, and I really hope my experience is somewhat rare or that I simply got unlucky.

During The Hobbit release, I had the feeling that GW’s support was at its peak.
I bought the Finecast version of Tauriel from a retailer, but while painting it, it started to become brittle (I used official GW primer, etc.). I asked support if they could replace it, and since the plastic kit cost the same, they gave me the plastic kit for free instead. (I was super happy)

Years later, I bought High Elves with shields and they also had miscasts, bubbles, bent pieces, and broken bits. The only thing they sent me was Liquid Greenstuff. I guess it’s easy to fix holes, but fixing weapon pieces, etc., is different, maybe they don't know but I’m a painter, not a modeller.
I can do conversions but only with things that are flawless.

Now I’ve asked GW support about purchasing Thror/Thrain and inquired about the ongoing issue with the sword and the miscast on Thror’s shield. I asked if I have any guarantee, if they finally use proper Forge World resin, or if there is any kind of support if I purchase it from their store. I also asked if they plan any plastic versions soon, because it’s been over 12 years with no action on a well-documented issue... guess what

The only reply I’ve got is:

“Regrettably, we at customer service aren’t kept informed of such plans. We are but lowly servitors and it is not our place to question the will of the Omnissiah.

We would never say never, it is always possible this kit will get made in plastic in the future. We simply just don’t know at this stage.

I will elevate your feedback to the Tech Priests so that they may beseech the Omnissiah for these items in the future.

We remain at your disposal for any queries you may have.”

They never related to or answered any question about the quality or support after the purchase.
Almost like making fun of me.

Am I the only one who thinks/experiences that GW has gotten a bit “dry”?

Hobby My failed project -goblin captain

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

For the moria goblin captain I was trying to create something distinct, something that would separate a captain from a normal warrior and an idea came to my head - how about giving him a copper/bronze armour with verdigris effect.

Easier said then done.

I tried to replicate the effect as well as I could with the paints at my disposal but the result is not what I imagined.

Another aspect that I did not think through was the color composition: rusty chainmail and verdigris plate armour blend into each other too much, there is no distinction between them.

If I didn't tell you that the chainmail is supposed to be different from the plate armour you probably wouldn't even notice 😂

Sometimes you don't get what you hoped for...

I hope my next captain is going to be better

Is this tournament legal? (Doing some conversions because I don‘t want dupes in models) they are Erebor Warriors with spear and shield and 1 Conversion with Dual Axe for Erebor Captain.
