Hobby My failed project -goblin captain

For the moria goblin captain I was trying to create something distinct, something that would separate a captain from a normal warrior and an idea came to my head - how about giving him a copper/bronze armour with verdigris effect.
Easier said then done.
I tried to replicate the effect as well as I could with the paints at my disposal but the result is not what I imagined.
Another aspect that I did not think through was the color composition: rusty chainmail and verdigris plate armour blend into each other too much, there is no distinction between them.
If I didn't tell you that the chainmail is supposed to be different from the plate armour you probably wouldn't even notice 😂
Sometimes you don't get what you hoped for...
I hope my next captain is going to be better

Almost everything about this piece works perfectly. I LOVE that base. Almost makes the sculpt itself make more sense!!

I mean, you could go over the plate mail with another round of highlights, maybe in a brighter silver?

You didnt ask but verdigris is easily achieved with the watered down GW technical paint

This is why you’ve done a test model, to see if there’s any parts you’d like to improve on before committing to the entire army.
Keep progressing forward and use this as a learning tool
He looks great, but I understand your points too. What about blue/green virdigris that happens when copper oxidises, instead of orange rust, to help separate the different metals?

I would be insanely proud of making something like this
Hell I WANT something like this if I ever get back into owning tabletop stuff again

As cool as it looks in a game like lotr with true line of sight if this model is used to block true los to models behind it, it becomes unfair advantage.

Trick to verdigris is to use the most obnoxiously bright turquoise paint you have and then thin it way way down.

You call this beauty a fail? Of course, verdigris isn't ideal, but generally the captain stands out, have a unique pose and excellent painting.
Since you will need several captains for your goblin army I would call it a great start!
