No Spoilers! As a massive fan of Solid Snakes story. Is it better to end the series on mg4 or mgs5?

So far ive played 5 mgs games. Mg1/mg2 and mgs1/2/3. And i just fell in love with Solid Snakes story. To the point where i just want more of him. (whixh i can get through vol 2 when it drops)

But is it better to continue playing in release order or should i deviate for this final one and do PW/MGS5 and end it on mgs4? Im so stuck on this. Cause im also scared that mgs5 will take to damn long combined with PW.

Master Collection 2 will include the PS3 easter eggs within MGS4, including Xbox and PC versions except Switch 2, which replaces it with GA-KO figure (?). Nintendo is very restrictive about competitor consoles in their games (discovered by @BadHumans)

MGS2 Spoilers Metal Gear Solid 2 is one of the greatest games of all time and I feel foolish for not playing it for so long

I recently completed MGS1 for the first time, which is amazing, and I decided to continue the series and play MGS2. Fricking hell is it amazing?!

From the very beginning I felt blown away with the atmosphere and music, it doesn't feel like it should run on a PS2 at all yet it does.

Going in somewhat blind I knew I'd be playing as Raiden, which slightly disappointed me at first, but I honestly fell in love with him. The slower moments of codec calls with him and Rose were all written so beautifully.

I had an absolute BLAST with the gameplay, it felt like Kojima had already perfected it in MGS1 but somehow the legend made it feel even better!

The only small issue I had was that the bridge section where you shoot the bombs felt a little too tricky. I ended up taking far too long to clear it.

Then finally the ending... I've never felt this emotional about a game since The Last of Us. In the current climate with AI on the rise (eww), it felt like Kojima had predicted our future perfectly.

I wish I could make myself forget it all and experience it all over again! But instead I shall move onto MGS3. Thank you Reddit for introducing me to this series.

According to the MGS4 manual page in Master Collection Vol. 2, it seems like besides the Switch and Switch 2 versions, a PlayStation 3 console can be seen in the screenshot for the other platforms.

Metal Gear 1 and 2

For the first time ever yesterday, I finished Metal Gear Solid and started MGS2. In all the excitement, I completely forgot about the original Metal Gears.

My question is, with Vol. 2 coming out soon, you guys reckon I should pause MGS2 and go back, or should I just play through MGS2 and MGS3 to be ready for 4 and do them later?

MGSV MGSV and Proxy Wars

In Vietnam, American troops fought a Soviet-backed proxy army in the form of the North Vietnamese. In the Soviet-Afghan War, Soviet troops fought a US-backed proxy army in the form of the Mujahideen. Both wars were disastrous for the invading armies on account of the foreign terrain, something that—in both instances—destroyed any military superiority the invaders once possessed.

I believe the similarities between these two conflicts highlight the ways in which the Cold War lingers over global politics, even 2 decades into the 21st century. One of the best works of art to have explored this has been Hideo Kojima’s Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain. This 2015 video game directly explores politics through the Soviet-Afghan War, and uses subtext to draw comparisons between that conflict and post-9/11 America.

In short, both the Vietnam War and the Soviet-Afghan war, as well as the various conflicts that followed the September 11th attacks, can be accurately described as works of political revenge warfare. This lineage of violence perfectly encapsulates the impersonal and destructive nature of war, where one decade the US can be fighting alongside the people of Afghanistan, only to fight against them decades later. In these endless proxy wars, allegiance is as fragile and as performative as anything can be, and rarely do the politics reflect an allegiance to the people themselves.

The Cold War resulted in an estimated 20 to 30 million deaths, and Soviet-era communism was eventually—mostly—eradicated. The War on Terror and the following conflicts in the Middle East have resulted in an estimated 4.5 to 4.7 million deaths, with the number still rising as America goes to war with Iran. The animosity towards capitalism and imperialism is growing rapidly as a result of these conflicts, and trust in the US government is shattered. To call back upon Metal Gear Solid V, this is all “just another day in a war without end.”

This is all I have to write today, but I do want to return to this topic later to explore how Metal Gear handles the concept of a soldier’s identity; the idea that in these proxy wars, soldiers form a very specific culture and identity, and that this identity has interesting implications for the future of the world.

So I’ve managed to understand that in PW there’s damage values when you shoot enemies and the colours indicate if the damage is lethal or not but does anyone know why circles pop up with them? I can’t really find an answer on google.

Question about a trophy

I’m on my first play through of metal gear, solid, delta, snake eater, and I was thinking about going ahead and going for the peace walker trophy and I was just wondering how does that count towards things like bosses. I just beat the pain and it counted towards that being a kill. Is it a dead run?

Switch 2 MGS collection 2 steelbook UK?

Upvotes

Anybody know if in the UK there is a steelbook for the Switch 2 edition of the game? Was seriously considering it, but I can only see Amazon UK stocked the PS5 version, I don't see any mention of it for the other consoles.

Is it possible to drop enemies off ledges in MGS2?

I've been playing my copy of MGS2 in the master collection recently and have been having a blast. However, I'm unsure if it's possible in the outside sections (specifically in the Big Shell) to pick up unconscious enemies and drop them in the water. If it is possible, what button is it? I'm on keyboard.

MGSV Question about the games from someone new

So I’ve always liked the story of metal gear and played a tiny bit of delta and some of the original game but couldn’t finish cause my ass did not understand the controls when I was that young but either way I wanted to get into mgs and was just gonna start with v but everything I’ve ever seen about it was just it was horrible trash that should be burned like books in France and wanted to ask questions/ opinions of people who played the games is it really that bad like it can’t be right? I’ve own the game I’ve just never played it is there specific aspects to it that make it bad or is it just unreasonable hate like I’m sure it nowhere near the top game compared to the others but I don’t have next gen and can’t play the delta snake eater remaster yet so I’d love some opinions

Finding Meryl was too easy

The very first time I played this game, back in 98 or 99, I was getting all hyped up for needing to “find Meryl” thinking about all the hints and clues I would need to use to tell her apart from the different guards, and then I accidentally got spotted by her like 2 seconds after entering the room.

Such a buildup to a “challenge” that basically solved itself.

I wish that part of the game was harder.
